Sinéad O'Connor closes out the show with her song "Back Where You Belong." Recorded live in concert before a sold-out crowd at August Hall in San Francisco, California on February 7, 2020. Back Where You Belong originally appeared on The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep soundtrack in 2007, then later on O'Connor's ninth studio album, How About I Be Me (And You Be You) in 2012. This tour, called The 786 Tour, marks O'Connor's first shows in North America since 2014. Joining her onstage were Jackie Rainey (guitar), Phil Edgar (guitar), Darren Campbell (bass), John McCullough (keyboards), and Eamon Ferris (drums).

It's sad and strange that THIS should be the closing song of her last concert.

Sinead was quoted as saying it's "a love song from a dead father killed in war to his son." She wrote it for a film soundtrack (The Water Horse). I find her lyrics very touching and I imagine the song had some emotional resonance for her as a mother (or perhaps as a daughter). Curiously, according to the setlist.fm site, at her very last show a few days later, she deviated from her setlist and played this song earlier in the set. That would make "Milestones" the final song she ever played live.

She was herself and spoke uncomfortable truths that she felt needed to be voiced, but did not engage in cruel speech (with the exception of the times she was in a triggered neurological storm of uncontrollable emotions). The skin does what it does, but the core of her soul, ever beautiful and righteous.

Are we listening to the same concert? I never heard Sinead sing live in her later years, but when I sought out some recordings after her death, I was amazed at how much power, flexibility and grace her voice still had.
