I bought this CD without ever hearing one note. Musician magazine had Sinéad on its cover, a strikingly beautiful woman with eyes as old as time itself. Read her article in the store, bought it, bought the CD, popped it in my player before leaving the parking lot. When 'Jackie' began I knew this record would have an impact on my life. To this day it remains one of the ten CD's I keep in reach beside my system. Changed my life. I'll always adore Sinéad O'Connor for that.

Thank you, that's lovely. I remember the first moment I heard her voice. A friend popped a CD (lion and cobra) into his car stereo and said " i think you'll like this" and left to run an errand, so when her voice broke out, it was her and I alone. Unforgettable.

@@evelaing3483 Music that does that to people can only be created by someone of truth. Sinéad was most assuredly capable of doing that. Couldn't tell you how many times I've played THE LION AND THE COBRA alone in my dim lit bedroom, volume as loud as possible and allowing every emotion I'm capable of just drain my body. I'm really going to miss her. Thank you for the comment, sorry if I rambled on... Peace ~

I saw Sinead in 1987 at The Stone, a San Francisco club that is no longer there. That show was better than any other show I've seen. Incredible, passionate performer with a voice that made my hair stand on end -- and a kick ass woman who never wanted to be "famous." Just be able to create her music.

I love how one moment her voice is so soft and gentle then suddenly its so strong and powerful, then before you can process the power of what just happened her voice is soft again. It takes true talent, heart and soul to be able to do that and have such a dramatic effect on the listeners! I am enchanted.

WOW! WHAT-A-SONG! A highly emotional dark story that is so all too common for the loved one's left behind in fishing villages. Sad but true, this is the reason all those beautiful knitted Irish sweater patterns were created, If and when the body washed up on shore, they were, most of the time, non-reconizable, but because each fisherman had his own unique sweater pattern he could be identifyed and the love ones could have closure. Great video creation.....thanks for posting

That’s not actually true about those sweaters, they did intricately cabled sweaters because it made a much thicker fabric which made them more warm. The pattern was probably used to identify some bodies at some point but that was not the main motivation.
@craigathonian
@craigathonian 2 жыл бұрын
@@Chamomile369 good point, but no cigar. Thickness of a knit has to do with the ply of the yarn. The stitch pattern can be made tighter or looser by the creative knitter. Also, the ancient customs of the individual towns is a well documented fact. You're just throwing facts out to sound self important and not holding any strength of conversation when it comes to factual truth. Look up the history from several sources, not just one, and you will find the truth of what I've previously stated. It's quite commonly known along the truly costal fishing towns, so I don't know what planet your talking about...but it's definitely not the same.

when I first listened to Sinead O'Connor, it was her album, and this was the first song on it....i was just listening to her and then she got to the "YOU'RE ALL WRONG!" part and it blew me away. I'd never heard a tone so icy and piercing and metallic....i have no real way of describing it. I've tried simulating it but I can't. I think the irish are just blessed with killer voices.

Jackie Lyrics [Verse 1] Jackie left on a cold, dark night Telling me he'd be home Sailed the seas for a hundred years Leaving me all alone And I've been dead for twenty years I've been washing the sand With my ghostly tears Searching the shores for my Jackie-oh [Verse 2] I remember the day the young man came He said, "Your Jackie's gone He got lost in the rain" And I ran to the beach And laid me down "You're all wrong," I said And they stared at the sand "That man knows that sea Like the back of his hand He'll be back some time Laughing at you" [Verse 3] And I've been waiting all this time For my man to come Take his hand in mine And lead me away To unseen shores I've been washing the sand With my salty tears Searching the shore All these long years And I'll walk the seas forever more 'Til I find my Jackie-oh 'Til I find my Jackie-oh 'Til I find my Jackie-oh Jackie-oh Jackie-oh

The instruments are simple but they convey a sense of ominous anticipation. When I first heard it I expected the guitar to pick up but it's her voice that brings on the MOSH PART. Her vocals are delivered with epic precision and intensity. The entire narrative of the song is foreboding and well written. She really packed a lot into 2:13.
