I was a teen when I saw her SNL performance and I quickly found out EXACTLY what she was protesting even back then... without internet at that. It was how I learned about the abuse that was absolutely happening & I was appalled at & happy none of my siblings, myself, my cousins, or my friends had to experience from a place we were supposed to feel the safest. I was angered that it took a decade for them to FINALLY admit it was all true... and Ms. O'Connor was brave enough to bring it to light. Can you imagine if she hadn't? Been too afraid or selfish and turn a blind eye? How many more children would have suffered by the very people in the very place they were supposed to be most protected and loved? SO. As a former Catholic... she was a true hero to me - Speaking out when no one wanted to listen or believe her. And thank god she did, because eventually the voices of all those abused kids were FINALLY heard. And for anyone who still dismisses her and what I see as brave as fuck - because she put her WHOLE career on the line for the safety of children - Ask yourself if you discovered an abuse as huge that no one was admitting or acknowledging, would you stand up and be the hero the abused needed at the risk of losing everything yourself? If that is crazy, unstable, looney... Just remember that you have what you have today because someone was brave enough to go against the "all powerful" at the risk of losing everything (and even their lives depending on the time period & cause). It was War. A silent war... and it still is.

The world most of the time were and are blind or indifferent. We never able to recognize a visionary walking among us, who able to see the truth and justice of our ways. Sinead was way ahead of her times and paid the price for it. Imagine if the world had listened, may be some innocent children could be spared from the abuse. It's tragic to honor someone only after she died but not able to appreciate her worth when she lived. Some of the people paying tribute at her funeral could be the same people who threw stones at her when she lived. The audacity and blatant hypocrisy of it is totally unbearable. These people dare to show their face to 'mourn'.

But she gave a heroic fightinhg perfotmance to get her real message out. The comments regarding changing religion she was only trying to find truth in life. She probbaly didnt need to find truth because she was already aware of the rights and wrongs of this world. Sorry if that offends people, but I do not except such easy solutions for a woman that stayed proactively speaking against the activities of a powerful entity like the churches and/or members involved in such heinous acts. I have always heard my great grandparents and grandparents talk about babies that were found under the floorboards of such churches. and if you look it up in a web search you find a lot of reports on new such events.
