Sinead could sing with a sledgehammer as backup. She has so much to convey and the voice to to do it. When she is in her zone, when she does her thing, like she does here, she is the truth, she's absolute. What a gift to erveryone who can listen to her.

Sinead not sinaed. And have you never heard Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan or Italian opera singers? Why the need for such statements as passion that can only cone from the Irish. Low self esteem Sir? Stop trying to be the number one and give credit to other nationalities as well. It'll be a sign of your recovery and healing. And....learn to spell. Good man Shamus.

My friend, this, like many traditional songs speaks of love, desire, the faerie faith and how captivating and bewitching the land here is. Not all of this country and it's history is wrapped up in conflict over identity, political and religous dominion. Music like this conveys the inherent, energ and, magick of the land which predates the arrival of the first people on these shores.

What makes this video so good? - the Irish ballad & haunting words (what bard came up with “and often when the beetle’s horn hath lulled the eve to sleep”, or “there on the cricket’s singing stone she makes the bogwood fire”?), the artful arrangement that Sinead helped create with passionate gypsy violin, drums, string base, guitar, & cosmic synth sounds, the simple, serene video work with chiaroscuro shadowing, .....& most of all, a fair Sinead masterfully singing to enrapture the heart. Just great.

Sinead O'Connor has a small cadre of a few loyal fans who support her art by purchasing her albums, attending her concert tours, and even purchasing her books of art and poetry which she sporadically released. Of course, her most famous single, "Nothing Compares To You," garnered her worldwide fame and few fans, but she remains on the world stage through her art, artistry, and activism. I dreamed this morning that I was singing this tentatively, in a room full of novice women mourners, trying to unite the room somehow, when another woman, across the room, small, dark haired, and bright eyed, took up the song, beautifully, and I gladly and clumsily tried to harmonise in service of this coming together through beautiful lament. I woke to the news of her death, and then learned that she had recorded this song (I only knew of it via others). Awed and in gratitude of this powerful, far reaching and generous beyond words woman's voice, and the community of love here who share in it. Rest in Power.

Where Lagan streams sing lullabies There blows a lily fair The twilight gleam is in her eye The night is on her hair And, like a love sick leannán sí She hath my heart in thrall No life have I, no liberty For love is lord of all And often when the beetle's horn Has lulled the eve to sleep I steal into her shieling lorn And through the doorway creep There on the crickets' singing-stone She makes the bogwood fire And sings in sweet and undertone The song of heart's desire.
