Today our guest is the outspoken and iconic Irish singer/songwriter Sinead O’Connor. Sinead approaches singing with complete emotional freedom and embracing the ugly and the aggressive as well as the hauntingly beautiful and fragile. When her management emailed to confirm the interview, we were curious about the woman who embraces this contradiction so readily both in her music and in her life. In this episode, Beth chats to Sinead about how music impacts society, why she reverted to Islam and how the youth are making a better world.

I have watched many interviews of Sinead and most of them are either digging through her past or try to get her to say something controversial, they rarely talk to her in a humane way or about the music, so WELL DONE with the interview.

Sinead, you & your music has saved my life many times. I am 46 yrs old & I have been suicidal since I was 21. Sinead has the gift of voice, word's & music! (Your music 'Speaks to my Soul' -Your Gift has done more for me than any amount of 'counselling' has ever done for me!) Sinead, You owe me nothing but i think my daughter who is 28 would like to say Thank You. TY 2 both Beth & Sinead O'Conner xx

I’m upset I didn’t know you had done this interview. If Sinead is even looking at any of these comments - Sinead, in 1987 I bought three albums. The lion and the cobra was one. This girl was forever changed. Thank you for the clarity, the struggle and the transparency.

Wonderful Interview... love how the quick-fire questions bring out almost a vulnerable joy. Sinéad's music accompanied, and gave outlet during my hardest times; making music to not go crazy helped others to stay in this world, too, and I'm so thankful.

I am extremely surprised and happy to see her the way she is. Her entire posture, facial expression and the tone of her talking voice have changed. A couple years prior her stature alone was so insecure, shy, unstable and she looked very concerned the entire time, whereas now she sits very relaxed, yet with a strong core and with her arms on the table, which not only shows confidence but peace within herself. Before she sat in a way where she seemed like she was trying to hide and curl up in a ball. I am SO happy for her that she’s finally found peace!

She sure touched my heart, with her music and voice. Nothing beats "Troy" 1988, at Pinkpop Netherlands. I was 8 at the time, ... I cried!! She was fierce, and somewhat scary, but so beautyfull! I watched this today. John Lennon would have turned 80 yesterday (twice the age that He was allowed here on Earth.) Your description of Sinead O’Connor was/is succinct: “approached singing with complete emotional freedom and embraced the ugly and aggressive as well as the hauntingly beautiful and fragile... Woman who embraced this contradiction so readily, both in Her Music and in Her day-to-day Life.” This reminded me of a song/group request that I have been thinking of asking You to look at/listen to. The Band, probably off of the album, “Stage Fright” or live from film, “The Last Waltz” (mentioned by Sinead O’Conner). I was thinking the song, “Stage Fright”, although everyone knows “The Weight”. “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” (Levon Helm lead vocals... also covered by Joan Biaz etc.) and other songs might peak Your interest more. All passionate singers in that group (The Band), but I have always been especially struck by the emotion of voice, particularly as delivered by the late Great Rick Danko (bass player). Perhaps You will look into this sometime, if You have/find time. You must have a particularly busy life. Anyway, I appreciate Your videos, even though I have yet to truly find my singing voice. I am more of a visual person but I am analytical, intellectual and music has always been a base for creativity and an inlet/outlet for the full spectrum of emotion. Gratitude 🙏🏻 💗

Sinead O‘Connor is one of the most fascinating and authentic artists, in my opinion, and a breathtaking and powerful singer to boot. Her traditional Irish stuff especially is just phenomenal. Her career really took a hit when she tore up that picture of the pope on TV. She was right then and she is right now, but it took the world another good 15 years to catch up. She’s amazing.
