I love your comment, I am Canadian but my gosh from the moment I began my love for Sinead...when she had her first single....and then from when she had the courage, the guts, the sheer braveness to rip up the Pope's picture on SNL which I saw live, on tv..the Catholic evil church and SA and the Indigenous children still being found now. Sinead said what everyone knew, she said it "out loud" and openly and honestly.....she made my day and became not only one of my favourite artists, she became my HERO. I hope she is finally resting in Peace and I also hope those who chastized her for her honesty go look at themselves in the mirror and question themselves. I host a music game on Facebook every Friday night for the past 10 years. I had never heard this before somebody played the studio version of it this last Friday night - leading me to this jaw dropping live concert version from 1990. I can't recall a recent time when I've been more deeply touched by the profound intended meaning conveyed by something at this level of musical brilliance. That carries over into adulthood as anger, deflection, resentment of people who you think will reject you, even though you may not even be on their radar. One thing l noticed pouring over her interviews since the SNL thing is that she expressed hopefulness every time she was creating and performing. She was also tenacious AF! when you think about it, she pretty much cleared the conscience of several generations... she was so hated (and loved) for what she revealed, but she liberated so many people...certainly you can say that many artists are "honest"... but her music seems to have a different level of honesty about it. There's no artifice and it's obvious she feels good about that and can express so much in her performances... she knew what it was like to speak her peace and I feel she probably enjoyed a different level of freedom than most people know.
