page turner speaking here: nice to see all those comments, it's quite funny now that i see this video back after a few years. we had an awesome night before with some friends so we had not much sleep. we didn't want to go to bed too late, but you know how it goes when there are girls around... the next day it was like 35 degrees celsius in that room and we had to prepare the whole day, so it was quite a job for us both to stay focused that concert with 3 hours of sleep and a tough day behind! that's also why it looks so intense, haha! we had the agreement that Gert would nod when the next preset had to be activated or a page had to be turned, that's why the focus is on his face.

I once had a page turner turn the page and knocked the music off the piano and into the orchestra pit. Fortunately it was a piece that kept going up half steps so I was able to continue while he went down into the orchestra pit, retrieved the music, placed it back on the piano just as I hit the last chord. You can't make this stuff up.

I don't mean to be cynical, or oracular, but if God himself played it, there are those who would pan it. Some would pan it BECAUSE God played it. All of the human faults and horrors are alive and well in this world (that is not philosophical conjecture, but fact - just go out to the Internet for graphic proof). This is not heaven, but the material world phase of creation. I no more care or spend 1 second on such 'persons' input than I would on Satan's advice.

Some thumbs down may only be out of sheer jealousy and spite by some who can only WISH that they could perform HALF as well.
@Oldman8082 жыл бұрын
@@benyoung4326 My thumbs down is not out of jealousy! This is a sloppy performance. He nearly loses it a couple of times. Gert is flashy, he appeals to the hoi polloi riveting them with dramatic pablum. In this particular performance his registrant is a professional, serious, and better organist. Gert did his best work during the period of their collaboration. Of course, no doubt that Gert makes more money than many markedly better organists. I can assure you that nobody in the future will refer back to any of Gert’s performances as a benchmark. I mean, in America, a character named Liberace earned millions playing concerts for the non musically educated masses. Utterly nobody today takes Liberace’s playing seriously. The same will be the fate of Gert. Additionally, I’m old enough to recall how, during the late 1970s and early 80s, Karajan made a fortune selling his “beautiful noise” to the record buying public, especially the Japanese, while at the same time he was held in contempt by real musicians. Nowadays, nobody listens to Karajan.

I will respond to Marc's comment that Gert is 'one of the treasures of the age'. That remark is a very, and obviously extreme assertion. I, and most persons, would normally immediately balk at such a descriptive claim. We would find that characterization as an exaggerated attempt at praise - almost without qualification. Because WHO would qualify to have it placed on them? However I must say, that after experiencing Gert (his recorded musical performances) over a period of Years now, going back repeatedly after lengthy breaks in time, I must actually agree with that stellar level of praise. I have Never experienced such profoundly beautiful and glorious performances - and being moved internally like I have by Gert. And Not on just the first hearing, but Repeatedly, after long absences from the performance. Gert is NOT simply a 'great organist' or instrumental virtuoso. I could find that somewhere else. Gert is Blessed with a musical gift I have found Nowhere else.

This is indeed the most beautiful and stunningly brilliant rendering of Bach's jubilant Sinfonia I've ever heard. Uitstekend ! ... Een van mijn meest geliefde Bach composities ... Bravo, Bravissimo !

Wonderful, thank you! I've heard this piece for the first time and I love it. Lots of negative comments unfortunately. I guess they all can play it better. I play the piano and definitely can't play this piece.

This is still the best version of this piece for me! This organist is a supreme multitasker, not only playing with both his arms and legs, he also instructs the assistant whilst doing all of this. I know it was an extremely hot day and boy did you make it work! Well done, amazing performance!

Boy are you right about 'multi-tasker'. You can literally watch Gert real-time doing that in spades. It is just overwhelming to contemplate doing what he accomplishes - always in full control, and with some energy to spare!
