The wolf guy was shown as never actually caring about Portia, he never even looks at her while she is speaking to him and is clearly excited. Then, when Portia "gets fired" (despite literally threatening the director's life if that happened) she dissapointed him. He literally rigged the game for her and somehow she still fucked up. Not to mention she is how old? 20? And yet doesn't have a job or anything else going for her. And yet whenever they speak with each other she acts and is treated like a bratty child. The wolf obviously cares about appearences and having the public good graces, so having a daughter on a important show was a good enough thing he could support until she defied him and suddenly it's not about what he wants but what she wants for her life. It's pretty clear to me that Portia has been infantilized all her life and the wolf guy didn't really too much of a fuck about her unless it affected him. So her Arc is literally about becoming an independent person at last.
@sketchyjulia2 жыл бұрын
This Also when he said he didn’t know why Porsha didn’t tell her dad to back down after she rejoined the show in his eyes she and Moon humiliated him for her getting “fired” and she wasn’t the lead anymore. Even with Calloway Crystal was still pretty pissed
@xxstar-bluesxx2 жыл бұрын
Wanna know what's fucked up? Porsha shows a lot of sign of being an uneducated rich kid who never have been raised carefully or caringly. Where's the mother? Probably divorced Jimmy and couldn't win the custody to take Porsha because he'll think himself as a loser if he lost his daughter. Why did she keep saying 'sky-fi' than 'sci-fi'? She definitely haven't gone to school much or may have been tutored at home, nor even made other friends, yet she is outgoing and an extrovert. She can buy and go whatever she wants, but where's the 'learning'? What's more fucked up, is that her dad... is also right next to the television channel studio.... So as The Crystal Family really have to avoid making embarrassments because someone will have to tell the news about what happened to your careers or whatever you're doing at your own state. Rumor-makers are also nearby them.
@Meow_Meow_Hurts_Real_Bad2 жыл бұрын
I agree w/ you, the father was fucking shitty, I was really happy Portia went against him, shit made me grin for a while, it was great to see. I was also happy she managed to find her place, and with friends that would genuinely treat each other as family (not all the time, but I am guessing you get the point). While Sing (and/or Sing 2) weren't the best movies...they weren't the worst either, I'd say they're above average, but not great. Honestly, the thing/s the movies are missing, is well...the lack of storytelling, like what the YTer said, probs more development is needed, if they ever make a 3rd movie or spin-off, I just hope they actually do shit for them (well...Illumination, considering their nature, I cannot expect too much).

I might be biased bc I actually liked Sing 2, but my interpretation to the weird dynamic w porscha and her dad was that, "everything is good as long as daddy is pleased" like she would go and be good a daughter, pleasing her dad(like giving a good reputation to their name and stuff) and in return he would be nice to her but at minimum imperfection he would lash out to her . Long story short, he emotionally abused her. Like, prob porscha learned early on(in a bad way) that her father isn't all that good but just rolled w the punches and play her part, like even her overreacting when moon changed her role could be bc of that. Idk, maybe it's not that deep but that's what I understood.

26:21 - 26:38 I do find it kind of hilarious just how shady Buster Moon and his performers can be in these movies. They broke so many laws to get their big show off the ground in "Sing 2", and when Jimmy Crystal sent his goons after them to whack them, they had zero problems teaming up with Johnny's gangster family (who just got out of jail a while ago) if that's what they had to do to survive. It's not often that you see the protagonists of a family film be this sketchy, and personally, I kind of like it.

Similar experience here actually. It was a strange chain of events. I saw Sing 2, I thought the Clay Calloway stuff was great and touching and I loved the I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For scene. All that together got me really into U2 and got me back into rock music, so I started to improve myself at singing and guitar-playing. A year or so later, I got one of the leading roles in a musical, which has always been a dream of mine. So yeah, these movies may be corny but if you open yourself up to the pure earnestness of it, you'll find unexpected inspiration.
@noviceworks15032 жыл бұрын
My only real beefs with the first movie were that 1: A $10 entrance fee from everyone who auditioned would have helped the theater's immediate money problems with repairs and unpaid staff, and 2: A 'Actually the prize is only $1,000' turning away 90% of the people in the huge line we saw would have still FILLED the entire list, and 3: The POINT of musical talent reality shows is that the audience gets to judge along with the actual judges, and a $5 charge for an audience would have taken care of like...everything. So I see the sequel has the same issues with 'Actually THIS is how you make this situation profitable' that the first one did. XD

10:52 - On that note, I really wish the characters had more short scenes together. Like, after Ash breaks up with Lance, Rosita sits down to talk to her and gives her candy from her purse to help her feel better, just like a mom would do. Regarding the Crystals, it's obvious that Jimmy values his public reputation above almost anything else, so it makes sense that no matter whos to blame, no matter how strong his relationship with Porscha is, he'd snap at the nearest person who's name is front and center at his embarrassing story, especially since Moon isn't here, and his anger can misdirect at whoever and wherever. As for Porscha, with her being a spoiled brat and total drama queen who typically gets whatever she wants from her father, it's not too hard to believe that one of the few instances of her father ever talking negatively and harshly to or about her would send her into her whole teen rebellious Arc.

How didint you get that? Its true that they dont show hatred, but as a cliché of famous rich daddy tht works so much he doesnt have time, the kid just want his attention, even though they are just a spoiled teenager that actually doesnt do much, have their time to shine but fails, daddy finaly notice their existence and see his spawn is a failure in the career he works on and this, bringing shame onto him. If you really think about it, the whole Alice in Wonderland segment directly mirrors Porsha's arc.... Moon claimed the show they were introducing to Crystal in the beginning was going to be about a normal highschool girl, which are two words Cystal doesn't want to be associated with, "normal" and "high school girl". Porsha is like Alice from Wonderland who dreams about a world of her own and wants to try and experience new exciting things, but she believes she should be more entitled and to be a star to be successful. Only after she disappoints her dad, does she learn being big is not what it's cracked up to be. Her being an alien girl jumping around in her own version of space Wonderland represents her embracing "being in the wonder" Instead of "being the wonder" That's what I interpreted anyway. Jimmy cares about his image. He lets porsha basically get what she wants because he knows that 1. There are quite a lot of people about. 2. Its easier for him to do that then to actually bother wasting his time saying no and trying to say why, when he basically has control over his staff. 3. If he started arguing with her it would reflect badly on his image and there's no guarantee the staff and things would keep quiet unless he made them all be. So a lot of people would start asking questions about it. When news gets out that she has been fired it is really bad for his image and everyone wants to know all about it and keep asking questions about it.

I've watched Sing 2 quite a few times (it's a comfort movie honestly) and doing so reveals a lot of nuances that lead to Porscha and Crystal's conflict. When you look closely, you can see that Crystal doesn't really care for his daughter, just gives her everything she asks for without question. He doesn't look at her when she asks to jump, when she waves goodbye, and they don't interact much more after that. He's certainly a detached parent to a spoiled daughter. When she realizes he actually doesn't care for her, that's when their split happens. honestly I feel like the Sing movies could've worked better as a TV show, to have more time to expand on the characters, focus on backstories, and even introduce more unique music rather than being solely a jukebox musical.

That’s quite a big assumption, sure his disappearance may imply that he’s in some kind of trouble, but there’s little to no evidence confirming that he was murdered. Sure, Moon’s theatre recovered from financial debt due to Nana’s donations, but after Moon lied to them about the 100,000 dollar award, why would he trust him to be honest in the future? Not to mention how egotistical Mike is, he probably thought that he was better off somewhere else, especially since he stated earlier in the movie that there wasn’t an ounce of talent to in the group. My last conclusion would be that he simply went into hiding after the ending of Sing, now that he knows that the bears are after him, and likely won’t forget about him anytime soon, he decides to live his life on the down low until they stop pursuing him, he may also have decided to move cities or states, to try to get away from them quickly.

When Crystal blows up on Porsha about her being talentless, was because he's an egotistical wolf with anger issues that probably never really paid attention to her. She was just some teen wolf/tool to make him look good that failed and made him look bad by being fired by some looser from nowhere. and the Jhonny and his father thing, I bet he never listened to Jhonny sing, and then BAM he's on tv singing and it's good. So he got proud and accepted Jhonny's path as a viable/real one.

Sing is like one of my favorite childhood movies... Even if the plot is a bit repetitive (that I just somehow only just noticed now in this video) sing 2 was amazing.. I love how they putted side stories and how they explained the characters and their personality throughout the movie... It's both good movies and I both enjoyed it..

28:31 Just to say about Porsha and the dancers, have you thought about HOW the hell they managed to put that together with everything they need within a few minutes!? We never heard what or when they changed the scripts and sets to fit the literal last-minute change of Porsha's role. First, they had a battle between the space explorer and the alien, now it's just the alien being positive, with a totally different song, with a different background so they somehow set up the floating things for her to pop. Also, the Illumination intro is not that bad, rather interesting, the singing and clapping along with the tempo as a group growing larger and louder.

Well, I kinda got the impression that the wolf doesn't rlly care about his daughter but basically gives her whatever she wants as long as she follows what he says and makes him look good. He was probably not too good to her emotionally but provided her with whatever financially
@candyloverthegreat8714 ай бұрын
I think the wolf was trying to cancel the show because 1. it was illegally done behind his back 2. at this point it's personal, his ego is hurt and 3. his daughter sided with the koala instead of doing things his way

To respond to your question of why the Wolf still wanted to unalive Moon. It was because Moon technically embarrassed the Wolf publicly. Which tarnished his pride. Moon straight up lied to him, the Wolf trusted him, he thought his daughter was fired, and well, that's embarrassing. I hope that helps P.S. Anger management is a thing
@rosennacht7624 Жыл бұрын
"Anger Management is a thing" Try telling that to the Wolf, Crystal, lmao He has a temper indeed. I feel like if the Wolf didn't have a temper problem this film would've ended a lot differently.

I think the best thing about illumination is that since it's a relatively young studio, only existing for about 12 years and has only made 12 movies (excluding the mario movie), they arguably have the most room for improvement.

I saw Sing as the first movie I went out to after my father died when I just needed to make myself get out of the house. That makes Buster's and Johnny's plots hit so incredibly hard. Great movies for the format. I normally hate musicals, but these had good settings for the interludes to happen in.

I honestly think this might be one of my favorite animated film series... my only disappointment was that Clay Calloway didn't sing during the first play in the deep, gravely voice he had for the rest of the film... with all the somber heart and soul of somebody finally finding a way to grieve.... to me it would have reminiscent of Johnny Cash singing Hurt.... but then I'd still be crying... Sing 2 was beautiful.

I don't know where you're from but hello from Canada! I love your videos, I don't think you're too harsh as you point out actual big plot problems as well as ones that would often be seen as little and nit-picky but actually do really matter. I want to watch the second movie so much, I actually really enjoyed the first one but the points you bring up are good ones. I'm a sucker for animated performances.

Tbh people are always expecting top tier movies and when a movie isn’t top tier people automatically start saying a movie is bad and garbage. Even if it’s a movie with a good plot and story with nice characters.
@mooseman30274 ай бұрын
I think part of the reason people hate these movies is that they're conceptually less impressive than Illumination's other works. If I didn't know any better I'd say these movies are the Cars of Illumination basically.
