It's weird how they put a lot of detail on the characters' faces and hair, like freckles, blushed cheeks, and gave their eyes detailing, but the details on the clothes and the rest of their bodies look like they were forgotten about by the shading team. And the background characters look so plastic and lifeless, even when they're moving. They almost move like Wii characters.

I haven't seen the movie, but even from the clips I was startled at how dull the clothing was. It looks like place-filler that was being used until the actual clothing designs were rendered. Even the background villagers in Encanto wore rich, expressive clothing that made them feel real and personal and played into the world of the story. Background villagers in Wish look like they were assigned one of 5 muted colors, then only allowed to wear that color.

We were robbed. We could’ve had an evil couple and a star romance. Also as for the animation they originally wanted 2D but then decided on a mix of 2D and 3D. I don’t understand how it looks like this they already have the perfect 2D and 3D blend animation that they used for the short film Paperman. What would’ve worked more was if the king and queen were both evil and Asha was their daughter. Then Asha would’ve grown up thinking that keeping the wishes was the right thing and star boy had to help show her the right way. Also it would add a lot more to Asha’s character by standing against her parents since for all the other Disney princesses with evil parents they’re always stepparents (Lady Tremaine, Evil Queen, and Gothel). So the fact that a princesses actual parents are evil would’ve been so cool. I get wanting villains like the Evil Queen back but Magnifico should've been the sympathetic villain that is way too overprotective and wants to protect everyone due to his own trauma Also I wouldn't make Asha quirky I mean she can definitely have somethings but not as much as they did. I would make her more similar to Elsa and Mulan personality rather than Anna and Rapunzel. You could even keep the seven friends but make them people who have already given up their wishes so they're basically just miserable and Asha has to help them. Simon could still have his betrayal but add onto why he wants to be Magnifico's knight. He could be a friend that has a crush on Asha so he wants to become a knight to impress and protect her I would also change Asha's color palette and name. Purple reminds me too much of Rapunzel and Isabella. I wish they stuck with the orange red color palette from the concept art. In my rewrite I would also name her Luna instead of Asha since Luna means moon and the movie is about stars Also why is the kingdom of wishes called Rosas that means Roses it would make more sense if the kingdom was called Estrellas which literally means Stars.

The song writer Julia Michaels was done dirty they literally gave her a description with three weeks to write the songs and then that's it they never let her change or try to fix things to better fit. I cannot believe that a movie about wishes has absolutely nothing to say about them. "Be careful what you wish for." is a tagline on the poster and NOT A THING IN THE MOVIE?! Magnifico mentions once a thing about wishes being vague and that being bad, but it's not expanded upon, nor does it come back in a meaningful way. What is a bad wish? According to the movie, all wishes are valid and important. What if somebody wishes for someone else to fall in love with them? Does that violate someone else's autonomy or free will? What if someone's wish directly contradicts someone else's wish? Which one takes priority? What if someone wishes for a bunch of people to die? Any problem with that? I can't believe in this movie so packed with references, that they didn't make Magnifico's rules for wishes the same as the Genie's. No killing, love, or raising the dead. It was RIGHT THERE! A movie THEY made over 30 years ago has more to say about wishes than this movie. What if, instead of Asha's stupid motivation with her grandfather's wish, she wanted her father to come back to life? She was sort of bummed about it in a nonspecific way. That would be something Magnifico would be very justified in not granting. That would give a reason for the whole memory erasure thing. If a person is so focused on a wish that's impossible to grant, it's better for them to forget it than have it eat away at them from the inside. The whole Magnifico thing doesn't work. Where did this evil book come from? Did he fight and defeat evil sorcerers in his past? We don't know! It would be more compelling if it was HIS book and he USED to be evil, but sealed it away and chose to live and rule for good. That would explain the book's draw it has for him and in his breakdown of paranoia and pessimism, he turns to it again and falls into villainy. The movie as it is now gaslights him into being the villain, it's so weird! And why does the Queen know about oil on the fingers prevents evil or whatever and not the King? She and Doc both read the book too and are fine! One more thing, how old are Magnifico and the Queen supposed to be? He founded the kingdom right? Unless there's some magical longevity nonsense we don't see, than Rosas has only been a kingdom for like 50 years max. That would mean Grandpa moved to and gave up his wish when he was in his 50's. That's a long time to be failing as a musician.

Why have film companies just completely forgotten about that it doesn’t matter how long it takes to make film, all that matters is that the film turns out good! The weirdest thing to me about this movie was how underpublicized it was. I'm no Disney fan, but usually whenever they drop a new movie, my KZbin ads are slammed for at least a month leading up to the release. I had no idea this movie existed AT ALL until I was in a movie theater to watch the fnaf movie and saw a poster for it up on the wall 💀 the gracious explanation is Disney didn't wanna overcommercialize it, or wanted it to be for fans that would know about it anyways. I really liked the fairy designs, I didn't think they were accidentally uncanny so much as purposefully inhuman, and I really prefer that look to mini-human tinker bell type fairies. Maybe I'm just biased from the books I read as a kid, but the unnatural proportions just clicked and made them better imo. It's a really unique movie & style and I feel bad that it got overlooked like it did 😭😭strange magic gang rise up. Also like ngl that movie is SO funny to me in so many places. I don't know how they did it, but the mouse in the cage looks like it has the weight of humanity's sins behind its eyes and it sends me into hysterics every time I see it. I didn't consider Magnifico a villain by any means... Like, if anything, he is the textbook-definition of what a good king is: A ruler that puts his land and people first over himself. He does keep the wishes and make people forget about it, yes, but it's honestly understandable. If he would give them back and only grant selective ones would it seem like he plays favours, increasing the risk of a riot. And what does he do with these wishes? Does he destroy them? Does he use them for his own gain? No. He puts them under the roof of his laboratory or whatever and "protects them like all the others". Like... Even if the wish was to conquer the world, he still keeps it. He does not make a difference here. Also, given his backstory, where he lost basically everything, it's only understandable that he wants to keep his kingdom safe, so he doesn't take any chances here when granting wishes. Someone could wish to become a master swordfighter, but this could result in them using this new ability to harm others. He never even askes for anything in return. And the only time he does (Ask people to report suspicious activities), people demand a wishing ceremony, breaking him, because this was the final drop after constantly giving. This is some actual character here. And a nuanced one at that. And meanwhile are we supposed to root for a character, whos only goal was to have her grandfather's wish granted. And when it was denied for justified reasons, she basically started a french revolution, took over power and probs killed the kingdom within 5 days after this movie ended because granting everyone's wish is a bad idea. Like... When Magnifico says his wish is to have an apprentice to teach and offering that to her, she straight up ignored it because grandpa... And this piece of cardboard is supposed to be the protagonist while the person with actual personality is meant to be the bad guy. If that doesn't yell "Disney", I don't know what else would... Great 100th anniversary special....

This one, He is somewhat transparent, Is very lenient and also manage to make someone live a century longer in a late medieval kingdom which people's lifespan rarely get over 60 if being a levy doesn't kill you many diseases and theres only rudimentary hygiene. and especially theres no feudal system, literally a feudal system is common, no peasants, no lords, no serfdom, just monarchy. isn't that rare in medieval and rarely goes well? like dude this is the most safest kingdom imo in all fictions

They were just pointing out that in Hazbin Hotel, the guy named Valentino is a violent, controlling, abusive rapist. And in Wish, the goat named Valentino is an extremely annoying and unhelpful character, (though I thought he was kind of cute when he didn't talk). These two characters who share the exact same name both suck, albeit for very different reasons. Basically: if I had a nickel every time a character named Valentino was absolutely terrible, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but weird that it's happened twice.

The sad thing is about Asha's shape-shifting love interest was that he didn't even need to be taken out of the movie. The little star could have been his friend as like what Tinkerbell is to Peter Pan, since that's who he was based off of. But it seems Disney was so worried about the weirdos who came for them and accused them of pushing a narrative of Disney Princess's/main female leads need a love interest in order to be happy and it was sending a bad message to little girls. They could have made it so Asha was this really naive but caring girl, who had never travelled outside of the city and knew no evil. Because she was so naive and sheltered, she believed it was only right that all wishes should be granted. They could have made Magnifico NOT a jerk but just a genuinely good guy who is all about order and protocols thanks to the trauma he carried from all the chaotic evil that destroyed his home and family. So, when Asha asks him why he can't just grant all the wishes, he tells Asha about his family and home being destroyed and how not all wishes are good. They could have made it so that the ones who destroyed him were evil sorcerers who used the power of wishes to seek more control over others. And how, when he escaped, he managed to steal one of their magic books out of the hands of one of the evil sorcerers who had been killed. He'd been protecting it ever since so that it'd never fall into the wrong hands again. Then, when Asha asks him to grant her grandfather's wish and Magnifico refuses because it's too vague and risky, he could have told her that because she asked him to do her a personal favour, that broke protocol. So he rejects her as his assistant. That would have been heartbreaking enough for Asha to run into the woods and sing about how she believes in the power of wishes and how everyone deserves to see their wishes come true. Then, when Asha meets Star, they could have been attacked by the wild animals and chased deeper into the woods, getting lost. Eventually, Asha could have realized she must make a wish in order to activate Star's power and wishes the animals were peaceful and could talk things out with them, which explains their ability to talk. Then, because they're lost, they look for shelter and stumble across a tavern, where they meet a man, who is travelling to the city to ask Magnifico for his wish. He says he was a sorcerer's apprentice who wants to work for Magnifico, who is his biggest idol, because that is his greatest wish. He takes an interest in Star and Asha suggests he could just ask Star for his wish, but they realize Star will only grant Asha's truest wishes and not the wishes of others. So, they travel back to the city and the man meets with Magnifico to ask for the chance to become the apprentice and Magnifico, who is impressed with the man's magical abilities, agrees to let him become his apprentice. Asha is a bit jealous but understands that was never her greatest wish and is ultimately happy for him. They become good friends. Eventually, though, it is revealed the man was evil. He reveals himself to Magnifico as the son of the evil sorcerer, who was the original owner of the magic book, and he has come to take back what's rightfully his. He and Magnifico have an epic magical battle but Magnifico, who is much older than he used to be, is badly injured. Still, he has just enough magic in him to expel the man from the kingdom, but not without the man taking the book. When it is announced that Magnifico has been wounded and the book has been stolen, Asha realizes who must be behind it and she uses Star's power to hunt him down to take the book back. When they find him, though, the book has granted him enormous magical power and, as it turns out, the man has now set it sights on looking for THEM because he wants Star's power to become unstoppable so he can finish the job of killing Magnifico and then steal the throne and all the power of the wishes for himself. He and Asha have a wild magical battle which eventually leads to Asha defeating him. However, because she still saw him as a friend, she shows him mercy. She wishes to Star that he become a kind man and forget all about the magical book. Because she so deeply wished for her friend to be redeemed, Star was allowed to grant her this wish. He was still aware of what he had done to Magnifico, though, and realized he could never return to the kingdom. So, they part ways and Asha returns the book to Magnifico, who has begun to recover. As a reward for her heroism, she is granted the role of his apprentice and has finally learned that not all wishes are good and worthy of being granted. Some wishes simply need to be worked hard for if people want them to come true. The end.

i will never get over the fact this movie could've been so good as both a celebration of disney's 100 years and as a movie on its own, but disney was so set on playing it safe it gave off the impression this movie was made last minute, like the animators realized almost too late that they needed to make a movie for disney's 100 year celebration. the villain song in particular rubs me off the wrong way bc it doesn't even sound like it's a Villain singing it. magnifico's villany is so thrown together in the script it feels like there were two people writing him: one wanted to make more of a sympathetic antagonist that we can understand where he's coming from, in spite of his questionable methods, and the other just wanted to make a complete asshole. and yet his song barely reflects neither of those aspects. and it sucks bc this is the same company that gave us villain songs like "be prepared" and fucking HELLFIRE. they could've make a song that sounded light-hearted but still gave off the vibe that it's a Villain Song™. they had all the great elements to make an oscar deserving movie, and yet gave us this movie that looks like it only exists to fill up disney+ catalogue

Magnifico was never structured as a twist villain. Magnifico was outright marketed as the antagonist. That was the point he was making. There was no rug-pull or twist. Sure, Magnifico was "nice" and "reasonable" in the beginning but he's still not a twist villain. So, he's a straight-up villain. He founded Rosas on an uninhabited island, took in refugees from all over the world without discrimination, provided for them, collected no taxes, and allowed anyone, regardless of status, to petition him for one wish. He doesn't even get anything in return, and he doesn't deceive anyone into giving him their wishes. He's the one who limits it to one wish per person and who enforces the no wishing until you're 18 rule, so it's not like you can say he's hoarding wishes. All the evil he does is under the influence of the book, and he only turned to that because he sensed an extremely powerful magic that he feared could destroy his kingdom and acted to defend it. We see him when he is contemplating the book, and he's staring at the burnt tapestry from his homeland and vowing not to let the same thing that happened there happen to Rosas. Not only is that not villainous, it's heroic.

Man, they set up Magnifico pretty well at first, but where Disney dropped the ball was in how they couldn't figure out what to do with him as an antagonist. It's clear he's had troubles in the past, so that could have fueled his paranoia (I mean even though believing an old man's wish would incite a riot *is* crazy, he did have a point in how potentially dangerous a vague wish is). Then when he goes off the deep end and uses the forbidden book that they blatantly foreshadowed in his desperate mad quest to set things right, they try to paint him as a full fledged monster who can't be reasoned with anymore....even though they acknowledge that the book is what corrupted and changed him. I mean this was the perfect way to have both a classic villain and one who is redeemed at the end but I guess something went wrong there! How difficult would it have been for the heroes to, I dunno, DESTROY THE BOOK, leading to Magnifico coming to his senses and breaking down with remorse for what he did? It's not even like he was completely unreasonable with how he handled the wishes; at best, he just went too far in keeping his kingdom perfect and safe. And I can even give him the benefit of the doubt for feeling like his people only cared about him when it came to granting their wishes.
