You can see his own heart breaking a bit in the video where he announced he was leaving. You can tell that it wasn't something he _wanted_ to do, but something he _had_ to do. Staying would probably have ended up with him beginning to hate what he was doing and destroying his friendship with the other four. Better to leave and maintain that then lose the things you love forever.

One of the most missed parts of how amazing Avi & Kevin are is how they adjust the rhythm to match the Trio's speed. Earlier Ben gave the criticism that the leads can get on top of the beat. So if you watch Avi & Kevin they are always looking at each other to keep the rhythm matched with the trio. You see them in the Clo/Clarkson speed up to match Kristen speed in the song(she must have been so nervous) But when you watch the 2 of them they are constantly exchanging glances to keep synchronization in all of their live performances.(less when they got decent ear buds but they still did it) I think that is one reason Ben (who is a musical genius) said they are becoming an amazing rhythm section as they got so good at it that it was so seamless, people don't notice the change in speed to match the leads. You really notice them exchanging almost constant glances in Born to be Wild & when they return to guest star in Season 4 " I Need Your Love" (that one really got sped up by the trio but still one of my favorites just because they had so much fun with it & Shawn's proud papa reaction also their huge surprise (like the Mitch moment) would have loved the judges reaction after it) Great reactions love all that you are doing!

While they perform two more songs in the finale, these two songs were the last ones that really counted, as the fan voting for the winner was right after this episode. Knowing that this was it, they pulled out all the stops and unleashed their "secret weapon" with Mitch. Amazingly arranged mashups and medleys have become one of their signature features that carried forward into their pro career. For the medleys, any of their "Evolution of..." series are classic examples, their "Perfume Medley" (partly sung in Japanese) is also amazing, and, of course, their Grammy winning "Daft Punk" medley! In addition they're always coming up with great mashups, from "La, La, Latch" and "Save The World/Don't You Worry Child" in the early days to "New Rules x Are You That Somebody" and (my personal favorite) "Despacito x Shape of You" from their more recent albums.

If you listen "between the lines" to the judges' comments after Dog Days, you can tell they're the judges favorites, but they can't exactly let it show (that wouldn't be fair to the other groups, they don't know if they're gonna be eliminated, etc). But watch their facial expressions closely and listen to the inflection of their words carefully, it's like they're trying to secretly speak to them not as celebrity judges on a reality show for television in that moment. I think they're actually very subliminally trying to convey their praise; it's not an act and it looks like they want PTX to understand the depths of their sincerity. :')

Shawn, I don't know if you still read comments after this lapse of time (or at all), but I'm a brand-new subscriber, brought here by your excellent Pentatonix reactions. Their "Since You Been Gone / Forget You" mashup ranks for me with their very best performances on The Sing-Off. Universally complimentary as the judges were, I'm not sure they sufficiently pointed out the astonishing musical subtlety of way the two songs were not just rendered in succession (which is how all the other groups did it), but interwoven, line by line and finally simultaneously, into a complete dramatic scene. Amazing. I think the gimmick of Kevin stopping Scott from saying "s**t" was an in-joke among themselves, a fun and practical solution to the challenge that you couldn't (still can't, as far as I know) say that word on primetime network TV. They're so good at finding creative ways around problems.

If it wasn't 2:44 AM I'd be shrieking with excitement! Can't wait to watch this! 😀 Yeah! comments before viewing is my jam for my faves! Squeeeee! Okay! watched it! I am so glad you enjoyed both of PTX's performances! It's so shocking in Dog Days when everyone suddenly stops and there's this beautiful, soft note coming from one person facing the audience.. Mitch! They had it set up to be placed just high enough in his range that we got the angel voice... like floating on a cloud.... Brilliant! I know they were told to keep Mitch's upper-range out of the performances by the producers.. and they did.. but it's not that high in his range when that timbre of his pops up. And it's gorgeous! I think they did this last because it would be so new and shocking to viewers that it would have a positive impact on the voting. Like the group had a good, but not certain, chance of winning with how talented the other 4 had been all season.. then, on the last performance before voting begins they play their final card.. that ace up their sleeve. I think people that were already impressed but were still on the fence would have had their minds blown! Could have been a very wise strategic move! And they set it up for maximum shock and effect! I LOVE how they did that! I hope you watch the finalé, when they announce the winner! I keep reminding myself that Mitch missed his high-school graduation to be on the show and imagine my current 19 year old daughter being on such a harrowing, nationally televised competition with her own anxiety and am just amazed that Mitch did all of that! They're all so professional at such a young age! They needed that will to power on cause a week after winning Sony dropped them from the label.. stating that they didn't think Acapella could be competitive in the music industry... 😒 why then was a recording contract part of the prize in the first place? But the kids all moved to LA and hit KZbin with a bunch of "couch sessions" they uploaded. Their first viral video was "Somebody That I Used To Know", and it took a few years, several tours and ep's before they got their first Grammy, then a Gold, then Platinum Album! They worked non-stop and kept improving their craft and Kevin learned to sing because he thought he wasn't as talented as the others (I kid you not! He thought that! Unbelievable!) and wanted to contribute more (sigh.. rolling my eyes.). You should take a breath.. and watch their documentary Pentatonix the "On My Way Home" Tour from I believe 2014? might be 2015. I think one bleeds into the other tbh. It's when they were starting to feel like a real group that was "making it". It's pretty incredible to see them arranging, recording an album while on tour, getting sick, goofing around, interviews, behind the scenes, them as kids, their high-school, theur parents.. all of that stuff. You learn about Ben Bram too. He's a big deal when it comes to everything Pentatonix and fine tuning arrangements with them then recording it all. He won Grammys right beside them. I ended up buying the documentary because it's just so good! Avi, sadly, was struggling with missing family at this point and it did scare me.. but I felt compassion for him too. I know the documentary is on Amazon cause I bought it there, but it can be rented too. I really think you'd enjoy it.. after seeing the Sing Off and all. You get them from childhood to being floored with their first tour stage set that didn't look like "a school recital" and Platinum selling artists. They work non stop. thx for the fun reactions!!! 💖 😊 talked ling enough

In The Sing Off, she was rocking longish, wavy red hair but it’s the same person, she just looks very different

Not just Kevin's beliefs re profanity -- this was on broadcast television, so they couldn't use any of those Seven Words You Can't Say On Television. :)

If you want to watch Pentatonix where people cry BS about it being a capella check out Bohemian Rhapsody. I mean The Sing Off was good, but they worked hard and got better.

Actually Mitch and Kirstie dated back in high school before he came out. Avi and Kirstie never dated from my understanding. Kirstie have dated Scott in the past.

Don't think Scott and Kirstin dated. It was actually Mitch and Kirstin who dated when they were younger.

Did anyone say it wasn’t Scott and Kirstie that dated it was Kirstie and Mitch in school. Love your vids though I’m late to the party.

Iirc the dress rehearsal version of this was a disaster and Scott was starting to lose his voice and they were so sure they were going to end up going home that they just fling everything into the song as a sort of goodbye. That plus Mitch having been nervous to really show off his voice like that due to having been bullied for it as a kid is 100% why everyone was crying and piling onto Mitch for a hug after. Srsly though you can hear Scott at the end fighting to keep his voice going and by god he did it.

Not to make too much light of Avi getting emotional at the end check out Scott he looks like he is trying real hard not to laugh. Just my observation.

They teased Avi constantly for crying so easily. He would just say, well yeah I do.

Sorry but Scott dated Mitch not Kirstie. Sometimes Avi got overlooked on this show, which was just wrong cause Avi added so much, those whistle notes were killer. There is a video that Avi did explaining why he was leaving, it will touch your heart. And then Mitch sings and the world fell in love

Both Scott and Mitch have dated Kirsie at some point in high school, and have also dated each other.
