I love that they show Raphina listening to the song while she takes off all of the make up she usually wears. It really emphasizes how the song is about who she is underneath all of that make up that she might be wearing as some kind of self defense mechanism. Seeing her cry at the end and listening to it from a totally vulnerable place really gets to me. I get choked up almost every time I see this scene.

You sure? I always thought that the many reasons musicians find to get started are quite fascinating. Although I'm not gonna lie... Sing Street really is cheesy af, but that's what it's setting out to do. It's not just trying to be cute, it's also trying to show how great a way music is to express yourself. He started for the girl, he stayed for himself... And the girl.

I must say that I find this movie a little close to hitting home. Everyone says that it's dumb the boy ran off with the girl and he should've stuck with his band. First off, he did say he had is demos so he clearly is not giving up on the band, he's going to London to pitch it. Second off, this movie had great timing of coming into my life. My parents recently divorced and I ended up moving out and my sister was taken with my dad. Just sorta like the two brothers being separated in this movie. I had a friend who was attending college and I rarely got to see him, but I met a mutual friend. This amazing girl who is now my current girlfriend and soon to be wife after so much time together. The movie is a coming of age movie, and though I've already gone through high school this movie really touched me. At some point we end up leaving our mates behind, never forgetting them or shutting them out but they do take a backseat when you decide to start down a path with a partner. Because wherever your family is, now you get a new one. Never forgetting or discrediting your old one but your new family takes over your life. And I really really felt this with the movie.
