Let's take a morning walk at Chong Pang City. 农历新年逛忠邦城. This neighbourhood was the first to be built in Yishun 40 years ago. Chong Pang City is named after Mr Lim Chong Pang for his public service to Singapore. He is the son of Mr Lim Nee Soon. Yishun town is named after his father. (Yishun is the mandarin translation of Nee Soon).

Very lively for a Tuesday morning and the video captures the feel of everyday life. From clothes shopping to decorating for Chinese New year to shopping for meat, fish and vegetables. I'm glad you're covering all these different neighbourhoods as they all have a slightly different feel.

These are the neighbourhoods of old towns, where the residents are older and likely to know each other. The neighbourhood shops survive and thrive here. In new towns like Sengkang where I live, neighbourhood shops are found only at LRT stations. The big chain shops and minimarts are all at the malls. There are no shops nearby! I will cover a few more neighbourhood areas daily till Chinese New Year, after which I will revert back to my 1-to-2 weekly postings. @@SingaporeCityWalks It is really nice to have a small shop close by. The one 5 minutes form my door carries fresh fruit sliced up and ready to go. It feels like such a treat on a warm day. I really like your videos. I don't comment videos unless I actually watch out of interest although sometimes on the background (or someone is completely new and I hope they continue through the tough start). That's why I can't keep up with everyone who visits my channel and leaves a comment. :)

Another great video, CM. What I like most about places like this is that all the businesses are small, owner-operated ones. Sadly, there are only a few such in NZ, where the same chain stores operate in every shopping area and most food shopping is done in supermarkets.

Jim, these are the beautiful and friendly old towns. The newer towns and upgraded neighbourhoods have 40-storey buildings and big malls. Small shops are squeezed out by the chain stores in the likes of 7-11, NTUC (minimarts), Kopitaims (conglomerate coffeeshops) etc. I stay at a new town. There are no neighbourhood shops except at train stations and the malls. I used to stay at Farrer Park, a beautiful neighbourhood kzbin.info/www/bejne/rInOonuHi5ahoa8. Miss the old places.

In the US, we do not know too much about Singapore. Only that it is a very well run and successful country. This particular video captures the essence of daily life and Singapore society to a great extent. It is very rare, since most videos there mostly show the great variety of food available .
