exactly. and even if singpass stops using NRIC as ID or banks stop using NRIC as a security question, the issue remains that knowing one’s NRIC means u have access to a whole host of other info tied to your NRIC - whether those info should be public or not in the first place, our year of birth shouldn't be in the NRIC too. if we want it to be a public identifier, the NRIC should also not be attached to a host of other private info about us.

@cookingwithfluffytiny4371 that is not true - you need access to databases and records AND have the IC. You can't phone the bank and find out who owes money or what bank balances are what by just giving an IC number. To find out who lives where and who is married to whom, you need access to home affairs or population databases controlled by the government. You don't use IC for flights - you need a passport, so knowing someone's IC won't help you at all. If all you need is a little work - pick an IC at random and find everything out about them. And then what can you do with this information except stalking?

Funny how NRIC should be open to public similar to our name. Yet knowing our own full identity number is a way to proof we are the person that belongs to our name like in Hospital and Banks... For years masking the first few numbers had not cause any problem to anyone, why need to unmask now? Whose bright idea want to change something that is so unnecessary.... Should not work there. Citizen: Hi govt, we need new method to safeguard us from scam. Govt: We hear you, let's unmask your full IC to the world. Citizen stare Govt stare CITIZEN: THROW GOVT OUT WINDOW (MEME)

Make it an opt in policy. Individual should be able to decide if they want their nric to be publicly released.

Scammers are rampant n many people were scammed n now authority wants to unmask IC number?

This kind of incompetence will not happen under LKY. Heads will roll if it did. Today's govt's "no blame" culture will breed incompetence. Ownself check ownself is a joke.
