I'm never going to make it to Singapore. I was always under the impression that Singapore was wall to wall concrete high rises with no green spaces. Granted there's a lot of concrete high rises, but it seems to be fairly easy to lose yourself in nature for awhile.

Why would he want to do that? If he takes PR and his son doesn’t the govt will think he’s trying to dodge National Service. If his son takes PR, and assuming he has inherited Taiwanese citizenship from his mother, the poor boy would have to do NS in both countries. That’s 4 years! I had a friend who had to do both Korean and Singapore NS. What a waste of time!

Hi I lived in Tampines Road in 1952 a row of about eight bungalows surrounded by a huge coconut plantation where the electric went off at 22-00 hours. A bus did run along the road from near Seragoon Barracks to Lavender Road. Very wild place. Bedok is pronounced Bedo Malays do not sound a K at the end of a word. I served three and a half years at Changi airport, and married a local Chinese girl

Thanks Richard, I only knew about the panther that escaped from the Zoo and was at large for 11 months. People were really afraid to go to out to the wooded areas during that period. The hunt ended tragically for the animal. However, your panther, apparently abandoned by a smuggler, actually had a good ending. She was caught (tranqualised) and became a resident of the Zoo where she gave birth a cub some years later... So I read.

I've always found another languages spelling to be a bit weird when it doesn't follow what the original sound from the original language. "They" goofed it with the e, but what would have been so wrong with the i and i originally or when they redefined the English Translation? I follow a lot of Taiwan KZbinrs. You see a street sign in Chinese and English. You go to Google Maps and the English is spelled different. Why can't they respect the locals on how the locals think it should be pronounced and in some cases spelled?
