So many kuehs! Kuehs are very rare in Australia, and very expensive! I'm looking forward to when we can travel overseas again. I want to eat my kuehs, coconut desert, ice kachang and see hum char kway teow!

Kole Kole is made of toasted green bean that has been grinned in powder form and cooked with sugar till firm. The brown bits on top is called “tahi minyak” that is made of coconut milk that is slow cooked till the oil and solid bits separates. As for the white and brown kueh or Talam Ubi, the top white bit is made of rice flour and coconut milk and the brown bottom is made of grated fresh tapioca root with palm sugar.

Richard, during Ramadan, a lot of Muslim eating places in Singapore will change their operating hours to mirror the fasting day. So, instead of opening from morning, they probably will open around 3pm and ends much later. For Ramadan time, the best time to look for food is usually from late afternoon till late night. The closure is for practical purposes, not many will be looking for food when they are fasting. But they will look for food to break their fast starting around late afternoon. To bring back to home, etc.

If you like coconut, you should try Putu Mayam. There should be some stalls in Tekka Market selling freshly made ones. For the triangular curry puff, thats the way we used to eat it with chill in the old days while watching soccer at the (old) National Stadium. Vendors will walk around the terraces selling them, and would pour the chilli directly into the plastic bag containing the puff. Wet, messy but delicious.
