I’m about to finish Kate Snow Preschool Math with my 3YO. We just skimmed it and I skipped a lot bc she already knew most of the information. They have also done the critical thinking co pre-K math books. I’m thinking about doing KMWC at 4 then doing Singapore Primary K when we finish. Do you think that would be too redundant? Should I just pick one program and stick with it?

Hi, sounds like you are off to a great start! Honestly, I would not start a K math program until K. I know it's cliché, but there really is very limited benefit for your child to begin formal schooling before age 5. I would recommend continuing to develop their number sense, seeing math in nature, visual-spatial skills (puzzles, logic games), and building with a variety of materials (blocks, magnet tiles, LEGO/DUPLO, etc.). We know from research that play is critical in the early years. A lot of children can quickly master early math skills on the surface level, but a deeper understanding of number sense, patterns, and relationships takes time. IF you were to begin K math in pre-k, your child might excel. They might also hit a roadblock with it comes to 1st grade math at 5 because they are not developmentally ready. Reading a book like Math Mindsets might be helpful, too.

Could you say why you chose primary over math with confidence?

My oldest is ahead of what is currently available for MWC, so it wasn't really an option for him. My daughter also really enjoys and does well with workbook-type work, which MWC doesn't have a lot of. I also own MWC, though, and will pull in a lot of the books and games to our P22 lessons.

When you buy the program, you should get access to Marshall Cavendish's Edu Hub (you need a code that is given to you when you purchase, often through a separate email). The online manipulatives are printable manipulatives found in the Teacher's Resources PDF on the MC Edu Hub.

Do you have any experience with Dimensions KA/KB? I am wondering what the differences are between the two.

From what I gathered from videos, dimensions is the updated version and is more challenging. It also touches more on the common core concepts in math. But don’t take my word for law lol

Sorry for the late response - So both programs are based on the Singapore principles. Dimensions is developed by American publishers applying the Singapore method. Primary 2022 is developed by Marshall Cavendish, the Singapore publishers. Jessica Kaminski, from Math With Purpose, has comparisons of the two programs and her facebook group is really valuable. www.mathwithpurpose.com/

There are some "games," but they are really more like activities than games. No songs.

Right start math has games and worksheets. It is heavily manipulative based. Haven't personally used it though.
