Please let me know if you use Singapore Math. Dimensions? Primary? Are you excited about the new Primary Mathematics being released in 2021?

This is so helpful and exactly what I have been looking for...a direct comparison of lessons. I am trying to decide which version of singapore to swtich my daughter to and this definitely helps.

Really interesting to look into both of these. I have thought that maybe I will go with Singapore when my sons are school age...we shall see. I have a few years before I need to make a decision, ha!

HAHAHAHA! We really like Singapore, but it isn't for everyone and I would highly recommend that you start your kids early if you want to use this curriculum. The concepts that they introduce at a young age are so much easier to learn then than to try to re-program your brain to think like they want you to. But, once you learn them, they help so much with later math (number bonds, bar models, etc).

Oh goodness. That Primary Textbook's cover and layout is nostalgic. I am Singaporean, having gone through our education system from the start. I am not sure how much has changed since I was in Primary School over 20 years ago, but if anything, I am confident in the quality of the curriculum. I'd dare say, some kids do better math than most adults, and it's becoming a trend where some questions in our Primary School Leaving Exam (Graduation Exam) ends up stumping half the country, resulting in a national debate on whether the standards are too high or if the exams are too brutal.
@HomeschoolwithJen3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and commenting. The national debate comment is interesting. Do you think they will relax the exams?

I am looking for a math program for my upcoming 4th grader. Weve been doing Horizons since kindergarten and she's just not excited about it anymore. I dont want her to lose her love for learning so on the hunt for a new program. This was very helpful. Dimensions looks like it would be a great fit.

How did you find both comparrison details lists you had? If my child just completed the primary 4a and is switching to dimensions 4b is there anything that he would have missed out on learning or is there a big advancement in level that would make this transition hard?
@ashleyleaman95793 жыл бұрын
This is awesome! I am thinking of switching to dimensions for next year, after using primary since we started homeschooling in K.

Would Singapore math work with a larger family? My daughter has 4 children ages 6, 5, 2, and newborn. Wondering if it takes too much time to teach individually when all four of the kids would be in school?
@HomeschoolwithJen3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for asking the question. I have not used Singapore for those ages. Dimensions is set up to work well in a classroom, so you do have many activities, practice, etc. It is not designed to be an "open and go" curriculum. There is definitely a time commitment included with choosing it.

I have not used either curriculum teaching public school. I have heard great things about Singapore math.

Very helpful, Jennifer! Thank you. Which one are you going to use going forward and why? Also what is the cost difference between them?
@HomeschoolwithJen3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The full year of Dimensions is about $120. The full year of Primary is about $100. I'm not sure what they will price the new Primary Mathematics when it is released this summer. We currently are using Dimensions and will continue since we are in Level 4. Primary goes to Level 5, but Dimensions goes to Level 8, which is one of the reasons that we picked it when we started. If we liked it, then we wouldn't need to find a new math curriculum as soon. Thank you, again, for watching and joining us on this journey. I really appreciate you!

@@HomeschoolwithJen probably costs less than $30 if you get them in singapore

Hello! We are using Dimensions in our homeschool, I'm curious from a teacher's standpoint, which one is easier to teach from Dimensions or Primary?
@HomeschoolwithJen3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! In homeschool, Primary has a home instructors guide, but Dimensions does not. Primary is currently being updated and scheduled to be released this summer. I don't know what that is going to contain. However, with the current versions, having the HIG helps the homeschooling teacher where the Dimensions teachers guide must be modified for your homeschool. We are using Dimensions and we really like it, but we don't use all of the activities since many of them are for groups. Overall, i would say Primary is easier to teach from in a homeschool setting because of the HIG, but I haven't seen the updated versions.

What are your thoughts on the khan academy math curriculums? We are new to homeschooling this year and I have only been working through workbooks and khan. I've been really impressed with it, especially because it is free. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Thank you for watching and joining us on this amazing journey! We really like Khan Academy as a supplement. It's great to have the on-line practice as well as the ability for the self-checking and then the videos for help if needed. It's a great supplement for when extra practice is needed. Plus, as you mentioned, it's free, which is great!
