If anyone thinks this is an exaggerated/ bias view of poly, I'm a poly student myself now and I've got to say this is pretty accurate! Lectures, experiments to CCAs and camps. Definitely did not regret my choice, and poly is great if you choose to make it to be (but of course there's 738271 doors open that can make it exciting!!) 😁

I was an ex JC student now currently studying in a polytechnic and I can definitely vouch for what they are saying. Everything is pretty balanced here unlike JC where the only thing I remembered most was mugging till my brains exploded. Though I have no regrets taking A-levels, I feel like that polytechnic is definitely a better choice especially for students who are more comfortable with a more hands-on learning style. Their general modules encourage holistic education too, which is definitely a plus. The friendships I've made over the past year so far have been pretty great too :) To any students who are getting their O level results this year, do check out their all their schools' open houses this week. There are tons of really interesting courses to choose from (SP perfumery and cosmetic science was my first choice but I didn't get in ;-;) Anyways, thanks to whoever has read this far HAHA hope yall have a good one.

Clearly omitted out the agonizing part of doing all the "hands-on" part of the labs: the reports. Even more-so irritating if the report is group based. Not all fun & games!

@@paradiseinhell8499 I can feel your pain. Did Chemical Eng in NYP not too long ago. Obviously they only showed the fun part of being in poly which is the hands-on experience. Things may have changed slightly but I'm dead-ass sure if I had labs more than twice a week like in the video I'd just breakdown lol. Translating what we learnt in labs to words is not so easy! All the analysis, comparing etc. Cause labs carry a decent chunk in overall grade and it's best to score for it! But ok la poly is pretty much spoon-fed with a side of self-directed learning. It's honestly hard to fail unless you put in effort to fail lol

for the record! not hating on the video, it is pretty accurate to a certain extent. poly life is indeed vibrant, fun, plenty of hands-on but not shown is the copious amounts of assignments, mugging, group meetings etc (understandable la, one week how can experience everything) but honestly: 3pm classes??? glorious??? more sad than glorious seeing schoolmates walking out of school but your day just started hahaha. still a good video and a decent representation of poly life itself.

Poly FTW!!! Hands down one of my best and most memorable life experiences ever!?!?! Secretly glad that I wasn’t able to get into my ideal JC. It was a blessing in disguise. Cannot imagine myself mugging my life away in JC. If you are the type who learn best by doing, please choose a polytechnic or ITE course! You will enjoy yourself because of the blended experience!!! You have your fair share of lectures and tutorials but the practical sessions are the BEST!!!! Love them! Shout out to all Poly students and graduates!!!
@BlackGrapes
@BlackGrapes 5 жыл бұрын
Yup I think you said it well - those who learn by doing would probably thrive in poly better than JC. I kind of disagree with Shiva about JC necessarily having a more helpful climate though, but I guess it depends on the culture of the JC. Some jcs were notorious for having a high student retention rate or dropout rate to keep their rank high (i.e. students who don't do well enough simply are forced to repeat a year), and that's not a helpful environment.

As a poly grad who went to NUS, I can share that you learn more useful stuff in one month in poly than one year in uni. Uni feels like secondary school life all over again. It doesn't even come close to the way poly prepares u for the working world

Graduated from TP in 2017 and I gotta say poly life is really how much you wanna take from it. I had a really hands on course in BCS and a wonderful media CCA, Digital Media Crew which made my whole poly life memorable and fun. Was from polytechnic years ago, graduated with a design diploma, even tho I’m not doing something directly related, my diploma did get me a relevant job and those years in poly were the best of my life yet! Many fond memories and so much nonsense and pure fun. Great times! Fun aside, the projects I that were very real, lots of authentic learning and could really see how the industry was like. Definitely helps with making informed decisions about your future/career. Learned so many new things and experienced a lot too. So glad I didn’t choose to go to a JC back then!

My course has 8am classes 4 days a week and this month i have 7 assignments due and 2 presentations D: its not all that fun but poly life is definitely flexible and you really need to have lots of self control and the passion for your course!! Good luck to those receiving results!!

Honestly, you cant really experience poly life as much in just a week. All the stress from whether or not this dumb presentation can get you that A, doing a project in 2 weeks that's 40%of your whole subject, like that's all the tough shit we get bro i literally cried once from all that stress lmao Poly is fun if you didnt have to care about the grades, if they had a rule where they had to have let's say 3.5 gpa in their first sem things are gna get way harder.

Former JC student here. To those that are wondering if they should go JC or poly..my answer would be poly. Poly life like what they mentioned have more hands on approach which is very useful for future employment. Also the students get to go for internships and have an more knowledge regarding the industry and what kind of career that they can explore. Being a former JC student all I know is just theory and mugging and my focus is only to get into uni at that time and not about my dreams like what kind of career path that I want to go to. So yeah if I can turn back time I would have gone to poly. Even if you don't know what course you want to take i feel that you should take something that you're interested in learning and if it doesn't work out or anything, at least you know what to omit at an earlier stage. Rather than these jc students who go to uni and have no idea what they gonna do in the future and take some jobs just to get employed and then realising that this isn't what they want. Just thot of putting it here :)
