Hope you are well Tim. Missing your videos. Off to Leicester on Wednesday to pick up my new(to me) 201 in a parlour cabinet. It's a bit newer than my old Jones CS - well it's got round bobbins at least! You have inspirational for me in terms of machine quilting.

I have a white treadle that has been oiled up and it sews beautful. It has the shuttle bobbin. I figured out real quick I cant treadle with a computer chair that rolls. LOL You are truly God gifted!

I’m very glad to find your videos! I had just purchased a 201K specifically for using for free-motion. It seemed the best choice for me, since the feed dogs drop. I am impatiently waiting for a new belt, so I can put it in my treadle table. Like you, I am a slow quilter, I think I’ll be just fine with this machine. Thank you for a very informative video.

I’ve always wanted a treadle sewing machine. I started sewing on one when I was about 5. I must say that it was a little hard to do cause me being so short!

Thanks for all the advice. For all my FMQ I use a singer 201 K in an old treadle cabinet, it does however have a motor. I’m thinking of switching to treadling to give myself more control. I piece using a different treadle with another 201. Thanks again.

Thanks a million for posting this Tim. I'm going to have to look into a 201 for a treadle. Already have one(201-2)being refurbished for me, but you've convinced me about the 201 as a treadle machine.

You always have good advice! I have my great grammas Singer Sphinx treadle (Tillie) that she bought new in 1912 or so. I noticed when I sew fast the bobbin thread tends to be loose and loopy. I’m not sure if that’s common but it happens with my old gal. I was scared at first to mess with the tensions, but now I fiddle with both tensions and I see why it’s so important. I’m a wig maker, and I use Tillie to sew loose hair to make wefts for wigs. I also embroider tags for them, and really for anything that I need the flat bed setup for.

I use my 301a for that because it's so much lighter. But the 201 is so bomb because the stitches are so perfect. I guess I'm a weirdo though because I enjoy seeing the perfect stitches. it's so cool they built these machines so perfectly. I love them.

Can you show how to drop the feed dogs? I have the 201k that was made to treadle. I love the 201. What is your favorite machine to sew on?

Very interesting video Tim, I am just itching to have a go at freehand machine embroidery. I may well have a go on one of my 201K's. In my experience I've never seen a 201-3 with a solid balance wheel unless it was a later cast aluminium model. I am confident in saying that you now have the correct wheel on your machine.You can check the stamped Simanco part number on that solid wheel and find out what machine it came from if you are interested. Happy stitching. I hope you feel better soon. Martin.

Great videos. I've learned so much. I wonder though, do you sell those machines after a while? You've used such a variety that I wonder. You've inspired me to find a Singer 66 and restore it for quilting. I'm in the process of cleaning it and have some parts on order. Sincerely, Mark in Colorado.

WOW! Awesome! I have a 201-2 and would have NEVER dreamed you could FMQ on it! After starting this video, but before you really got going on it, I had to go in and open up my machine and use it to make a cover for my table-top ironing board. I've got about 3 WIPs going but will definately give this a try. I LOVE my $15 machine & cabinet & tons of attachments. Are you saying that a modern day hopping foot will work on this machine? Thanks so much! Will be checking out your other videos, for sure.

The quilting police say that the Singer 201 is no good for FMQ because of the bobbin thread path. So nice to see your evidence proving them wrong and busting another myth.
@dankthompson5 жыл бұрын
I read the same thing, but totally agree with you about Tim. He just proved them all wrong. And he also shares how he does it. I like that about Tim. 👍👍💛💛💛

I have a 201 K that I recently purchased but the electrics are all no good. I also have an old 1908 27 k in a treadle but the machine is pretty bad. I am wondering if I could take the hand wheel off the 27k and put it on my 201 k and use it as a treadle machine? Cheers

I’m a tall person and so far have had trouble fitting into a treadle cabinet!, and the needle feels too far left! I notice you are sat back a bit, and your neck and head tilted forward and down to your work. But do you get neck ache after a while? Is it possible to sit straight and treadle? Maybe my old eyes and glasses are going to be my problem - to be close enough to focus I would need to be shorter or hunched up! I’d value your take on that please.
@rihamothman50656 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this nice video but i wonder when you stop and start again you don't turn the hand towards you again so it works just on stepping to let the wheel work .!
@jeremynv895233 жыл бұрын
After a while, you don’t need to use your hand anymore. (Advanced treadler here)

I'm trying to do some free motion quilting on my singer treadle machine and the thread keeps shredding. I changed needles and free motion foot, switched to a cone thread holder and added tension like this in your video, I oiled the machine. I don't know what to do. It didn't use to do this. It started doing it maybe the last 2 or 3 quilts I made. Maybe I am moving my hands too fast.
@owenprince48235 жыл бұрын
When thread breaks it is the tension that tends to be the problem and sharp edges on the plate.

Could you share your settings? Tension, stitch length, etc? I've tried everything and can't get my 201-2 to do free motion.
@erinboyes19465 жыл бұрын
I put my tension on 2.5 and stitch length at the longest setting. Works great. However the foot pedal and potted motor get very warm so I don’t recommend more than 15 minutes of FMQ on the 201-2.
@PamPayne5 жыл бұрын
@@erinboyes1946 Thank you. I've tried both of those. It's like my machine knows when I put the quilting foot on and says nope!
@jennyhusselman40642 жыл бұрын
Did you solve your fmq problems with this machine? I am also having trouble but seems to be fine with the smaller horizontal threads. I am going to try duplicate his thread setup.
@bella-bee6 жыл бұрын
You are such an inspiration, thank you! I too was told my 201 was not ideal, and I’ve just bought a Singer 15, not tried it yet. Do you have a preference, or is it horses for courses, I wonder. Shall I keep both?
@owenprince48235 жыл бұрын
They are both very good machines. I would keep both, Oh. I do have one of each and I have two 237 singers that have buttonhole, zig zag and dog drop for darning. They are all in treadles and are awesome to use.
