Singer 8280 sewing machine belt fix

This is an excellent video, the first I've found to get inside the machine. Could you please explain what to oil once you're inside the main body?

I've got the same symptoms as you showed in the beginning of the video, but the fan belt appears to be on. Turning the hand wheel makes the needle go up and down, but when I press the pedal I hear the engine whirring and the needle doesn't move. Any other ideas?

I figured out my issue and I'm feeling pretty silly. The bobbin winder had gotten knocked into bobbin-winding mode, not sewing mode. I flipped it back and voila.

Thank you! My machine was tight to turn, and once loosened was squealing very loudly. Oiled it all, but it persisted. Knew something inside needed lube. Belt was fine but this video was extremely helpful for getting access to those internals. Runs like a top now.

i have watched your video several times haven't been able to pull it apart so. i could fix the belt what am i doing wrong help

I was also having trouble. I ended up removing the metal plate under the foot as well as the plastic piece on the underside of the sewing area (flip the machine over and look for the single screw in the white plastic piece) and, after I took those two pieces off, the back fell right off.
