8 years old in this one. After you have done some of the other great works of Angelina, be sure to swing back around to the version of this song she did at 10 years old too. It's a little different arrangement done with a soft orchestra backing. But before that you have lots of other sons to explore. I highly recommend going to her "cover channel" and selecting any of the videos that you see with just her and a guitar player in the thumbnail. These are all stripped back, intimate settings where her voice really shines.

Sabina no surprise you thought Angelina was 7 years old since on AGT they said she was 7 when she won NGT. Surprised Angelina went along with that little white lie. She was 7 when she auditioned singing Gloomy Sunday then turned 8 before her final 3 performances. Here is a part of a biography I compiled about Angelina. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman, who has chosen to keep his life private. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on KZbin. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farci, English and Japanese. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training starting around age 4. Angelina plays the piano, violin, guitar and flute and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina befriended this girl who was wearing soiled clothing and no shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina so moved by the poor girl, took off her favorite sea green ankle boots and gave them to the poor shoeless girl. Angelina promised the girl she would perform barefoot until every child on Earth has shoes. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina asked her mother to enter her in Norway’s Got Talent (NGT) at age 5 but that talent show had a minimum age requirement of 7. Angelina at age 6 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 6 year old.

One of my favorite Angelina moments was when she sang this song on Norway's Got Talent. After the song, one of the judges, Bjarte Hjelmeland, started off his commentary by saying, "It's no use, Angelina, how often you say 'Don't you cry' I just can't control myself. That got a little laugh from Angelina that was priceless.

Thanks for being back with Angelina again and for your wonderful reaction, Sabina. This interpretation is from the summer of 2014 in Norway, after the NGT, in a romantic sunset concert where her soft and warm voice softly spreads over the bay behind her. One of the NGT judges at his first performance with Glooming Sunday expressed a beautiful judgment, said "You are the Music" which I think is the most succinct and perfect fact about Angelina. 🤗 ❤️ See also her other splendid interpretation of "Summertime" at 10, with a classical orchestra and a slightly slower tempo, kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaXad2eqnpanmMU You can see also the new live version released three weeks ago of her original Million Miles in B / W, it's simply stunning. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXzbp6qrj5yie68 You don't have to worry, you can face Angelina's songs in many ways, chronologically, randomly, out of simple curiosity or for songs you prefer, it will always be a street full of pleasant surprises and splendid interpretations. 🤗

In performances over time of a particular song, there are variations of course. Angelina’s performance of “Summertime” on NGT highlighted her jazzy style vibrato and vocal fry-it was over the top as performances go. As time passes, Angelina’s performances tend to be smoother, more refined, more sophisticated. I feel that is what is happening in this bayside performance. There are many other instances of this among the dozens and dozens of her KZbin recordings. It seems to me she follows her instincts and feelings in the moment, playing with her voice and all her techniques in any given performance. She is consistent within a performance, but over time she continues to develop her style and later instances of the same song tend to become more sophisticated, more melodious, and more evocative.

I thought I’d pretty much seen everything Angelina has sung, but I never saw this video of Summertime. I’ve watched two other versions many, many times including the amazing NGT version. What comes through is that Angelina is truly a jazz singer. Each version is different. The basics are there, of course, but where she goes with individual lines and phrases shows the vocal freedom that jazz allows-and Angelina flows with that. Yes, Yellow Brick Road is a must-see. Her voice is magical, but watch how Angelina mesmerizes the huge audience at the first line. Her connection is instantaneous because we see her interpreting the song so authentically and personally. What you haven’t seen yet, though, is Angelina with just a mic and an acoustic guitar backing her. That set-up gives you Angelina’s voice full-throttle, and you can hear every nuance in her delivery. Her covers of Adele are stunning. “A Million Years Ago” is one of those acoustic gems where you realize that Angelina, even at 11 years old, is in a different league than other singers. In Summertime that you just watched, Angelina is an amazing child singer. With “A Million Years Ago”, three years later, you realize that you’re listening to one of the best singers you’ve ever heard-period. I’ve loved your reactions pre-Angelina, but now I really look forward to you reviewing more of her songs. I think you’re hooked.

I always remember the story of when the woman told Angelina she made her cry. Angelina apologized but the woman said it wasn't necessary and told her she loved to hear her sing. I believe at that moment Angelina, although confused, began to understand the effect she was having on people when she sang to them. And, that realization has grown to where it is today.

Know what you are trying to say? Sabina, you have an absolutely beautiful way with words. You painted a perfect, poignant image of what we were seeing that made us (or at least me) see different aspects of tthe performance and overall experience than I saw on my own. You did the same in your first (double) reaction, and this is something about you that makes you unique as a reactor. Here are some of the comments you made that resonated with me. - You talked about the "magic of the setting"; the ocean, the setting sun, late summer feel and the natural, warmth, organic feel it provided. It may seem like a simple observation but it is important and sets that stage for what is to come. - You described her performance as "soft, warm and beautiful". Really poignant words, not words I would have come up with but they are perfect. - You talked about her presence and particularly how she is so "in the music". You came back to this theme a few times. It is such an important observation. Angelina's ability to connect with the song she is singing is fundamental to her ability to communicate that meaning and emotion to her audience so brilliantly. - I have never heard anyone use the words "organic and natural" to describe her but, again, they are perfect and capture an idea that I've had in my head for probably the full year since I discovered her, but was never able to properly articulate. - You noted the combination of her age and child-like vulnerability, innocence on the one hand with and old jazzy soulful voice (and I would add stage presence), how it is remarkable to see these, extremes come together in one artist. - You noted the juxtaposition of Angelina's youth with amazing, grown-up, talented artists with whom she performs in perfect harmony. Having seen so many performances by her, we come to expect this and it just seems normal. But it really isn't. It's extraordinary. - And maybe my favourite of all the observations you made: that being so good at such an early age strongly suggests that found the right thing for her, that she has discovered what she was meant to do. That's such a beautiful thought, and aligns with things Angelina herself has said since she was very young. In addition to all these lovely thoughts, your expressions convey a lot without being (like many others) over-the-top. All in all it is simply a joy to watch you react to Angelina. Incidentally, she has an absolutely spectacular version of this song, a few years older, with the prestigious KORK orchestra in Norway. It also has a beautiful ambiance, albeit in a different way. You might want to give it a listen on your own or when you show this one Henry(?). From a pure vocal perspective, the KORK performance is my favourite performance of hers (or anyone's) of that song. Absolutely spellbinding. Here is the link. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaXad2eqnpanmMU Sorry for the rambling reaction. Thank you for coming back to Angelina and I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that I hope you continue to react to our barefoot princess. Take care and have a wonderful new year!

The band which accompanied her is Hans (Aarset) Orkester, which has accompanied Angelina several times later too, during other tv-performances. Talking about how Angelina seems to be at her right place singing/performing, you should check out her rendition of "What a difference a day make" recorded just a few days later, with the same band. Hi Sabina! We know exactly what you are trying to say because we also feel the same with Angelina. Sometimes it's so overwhelming you just don't find the words. But you expressed your feelings beautifully. Angelina has said many times that early in life she KNEW that all she wanted was to sing. At 7 years old she asked her mother to enter her into the Norway's Got Talent competition. She's that fearless, that confident in herself and yet amazingly humble. You can appreciate all that when you see her standing in front of that huge crowd just singing her heart out, as cool as a cucumber. Her family has been very supportive of her dream and given the fact that her grandmother was also a painter child prodigy, they understand her, they get her. She has grown up surrounded by these amazing musicians that also understand that they are not playing with a child, that they are playing with an extraordinary musician. And I say musician because she has taken part of all the arrangements of every song she performs. You should see her singing at the Alan Walker "Coming Home" concert, in front of a huge orchestra she didn't even see and not missing one beat at 10 years old!!! AMAZING!

I love the soul type almost highlife music you play in the background, when reacting to Angelina. But as to Angelina, I see this plainly when I see such talent like hers, which is that not only is she an Old Soul, but on top of this, and why Angelina can embody all the songs she sings, is cuz she is an Empath and has been ever since I first saw her talent, at 1 & 1/2 years young, singing jazz right out of the gate ....

Hi Sabina. (reminder, tomorrow 1-10-21 is Angie's 15th Birthday & a bunch of the reactors & pros are doing reactions of her & wishing her a happy b-day. You should listen to her two other versions of this song to hear how her immersion into the moment affects each rendition of a song. It's never the same because the experience of each moment is unique

What most impresses me is her feel and musicality at this age. Here ability to understand the needs of the song and then how to deliver it. That, more so than even her voice.
I don't know there quite a few more that I like kinda a mixture and I'm leaving out the Asian singers but here you go: Diana Ankudinova, Daneliya Tuleshova, Angelina Jordan ,Courtney Hadwin, Allie Sherlock, Angelica Hale,Charlotte Summers,(Mimi and Josie) ,Martha and Lucy Thomas, Emily Linge,Celine Tam, Lucy Thomas, Chevel Shepard, Emi Sunshine ,TNT Boys, Kennedy Holmes all are young upcoming talents (this one is really young only 7 Claire Crosby singer and already been in a movie and try Grace Vanderwaal won AGT at 12-13 ) Opera try Amira Willighagen won Hollands got talent 7-8, Laura Bretan ,Beau Dermott ,Emanne Beasha . Bands try "The Warning Band" and "Liliac" and "The Petersons" all young family bands and " The Sixsters" and "Dea Matroni" from Ireland .Also try these a ventriloquist Darci Lynn Farmer and a violinist/singer Karolina Protsenko.

Thank you for another grand reaction to Angelina. You have the same problem as many other Reactors and, indeed, to many of her most ardent fans. That is trying to find the appropriate words to describe Angelina's talent. After struggling for a long, long time I suddenly realised that there are no words in a thesaurus to adequately cover all bases, so have decided that "Angelina" - her name alone - is the only way to describe everything about her. In just two days time, on 10 Jan 2021 she will celebrate her 15th birthday and ask you to feature her on your channel on that day. There are many videos from which to choose but as a special favour may I ask you to consider reacting "Million miles" her emotional original song, written as a tribute to the death of her grandfather and to offer comfort to all those who have lost a loved one. If you have reacted to this video already, so you may wish to choose something else. Whatever you choose, it is important you feature in on her birthday. You have the choice of two editions: The original lyrics video at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJmug5trj9mojc0 and her live performance at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXzbp6qrj5yie68

i think Angelina was around 10 in this video and you could hear how more developed and powerful her voice was becoming

This is only one month after her finale at NGT, June 2014 😊 Her vibrato is quite similar to the NGT performance, which she matured a bit, later that year.
@dakotaconners1074 жыл бұрын
@@sarlina1 your right but i think in that case she was 8 when the finals ended.
@sarlina14 жыл бұрын
@@dakotaconners107 Yes, right. She was 8 in her final 3 performances at NGT. 7 only at her first, Gloomy Sunday.

Great reaction! It is a great setting for Angelina..it breathes 'summertime'! People often say this or that song is perfect for Angelina but it happens so much that one is forced to realize that Angelina transforms her voice, her arrangement, her tempo, her performance, whatever is needed to make the song perfect. What a gift she is!
@kevinbarron17964 жыл бұрын
You should try California Dreaming or Wicked Game, as these are ones where Angelina has re-engineered the songs to what she thinks they should be. I’m enjoying your reactions.
