Just so you know.... KIM is her last name. In her country and other Asian countries, the Sir name/last name is said first. But for all English speakers, her name would be SoHyang Kim, or as we all know her.... just SoHyang.

Sohyang (Kim is her surname BTW) is a ccm/gospel singer, cancer survivor and a phenomenal vocalist (one of the best currently on the planet). FANTASTIC/AWESOME/ENTHUSIASTIC reaction. Your facial expressions are priceless. I know I'll be viewing this video many more times. Vocal coaches agree, her vocal technique is FLAWLESS and EFFORTLESS. BTW, she speaks perfect English. Even when the PHENOMENAL, GIFTED So Hyang is singing in Korean, understanding the lyrics is not necessary. Skylar, welcome to the thrilling world of Sohyang. My fellow fans in their comments below have done us proud in describing what this elegant lady is all about. She will never disappoint you. Even when sitting alone in a chair, just singing, she can touch your heart. Then of course, she can blow the roof off of the building. I personally like the performances where she does both. =) I won't make a recommendation for the next song to react to except that her most spectacular performances are in the "Legends" series shows and the "Immortals" series shows. Mind-blowing greatness. Oh, and her pitch is always flawless. If she slides into a note with a Blues or a Gospel sound, it is always intentional. Watch for that, AND watch for Sohyang's smile. Current odds are that she’s from another planet, with an outside chance she’s actually an angel come down from Heaven. We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. Her voice is, as one person described it, like liquid gold. Perfection in clarity and pitch, and she doesn’t fade in the upper octaves, which is startling when you hear her hit those 5th and 6th octave notes with such POWER it actually gives everyone goose bumps--and makes bald guys’ hair stand on end! As she says, her voice “is from God.” She does all the musical arrangements herself (with the input of her musical assistants), teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks four languages. Korean, English, French and Vietnamese. Let me catch my breath. OK. She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work, to strengthen those suffering through difficult times. David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all travelled to Asia to work with her. She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. A couple of comments: We all get caught up in her crazy mixed belts but after listening to her for a while now the thing I always come back to regarding her voice is how clear it is in every register and dynamic and that's also one of the first things you mentioned here. Hearing other very accomplished singers singing the same songs leaves you with the impression that they are singing through a wet blanket in comparison. It's not everyone's cup of tea but it is definitely unique in this regard. The other thing I really appreciated was your observation about how this performance showed her ability to draw her audience in. That for me is another thing that I love about her, she is always conscious that she's telling a story that we are all experiencing together. She has a diva's technical ability but uses those skills in service to the emotional connection she's trying to make rather than as a way to impress us and that is a throughline in every performance you will see from her and I hope you do more from her catalog!

So Hyang is well known for her vocal mastery but often her demeanour & the soul in her voice makes me feel like I’m simply here to listen to someone with a story to tell. There’s a certain maturity in her music- from the songs she chooses to sing, to her choice of arrangement, and the way she delivers it. And that’s probably what I love the most about her. Her “If I ain’t got you” (originally by Alicia Keys) made me feel those exact same feelings deeply and was my fav performance of her from 2020. Pretty sure you guys will like it too. Glad to see you enjoyed that but believe me, that isn't her most impressive performance. She does her own arrangements & sometimes she'll change a song quite a bit & other times,like today she wont change it too much,just enough to make it her version rather than trying to copy Whitney, but there are many many more performances that blow this outta the water on a vocal level, although I appreciate that is just my own personal & i'm not speaking on behalf of anyone else. BTW you called her kim as her full name is kim so hyang but the 'kim' part is actually her surname so she is just known as sohyang & referred to that way. I know this because in the early days of discovering sohyang I made exactly the same mistake & was told by a korean person,there maybe thousands,millions of us even,that can claim to be members of that particular club!

My mind is expecting her do something in a certain way and she does something completely different. It's nice to see a performance for the first time and be surprised by all the nuance. I'm confused. The reactor keeps referring to her "falsetto". I always thought that was at term used by singers (usually male) to sing above their natural range. Since So Hyang is a soprano those so-called falsetto notes are in natural range.
