She uses just false folds, if you look she’s using her true folds for a small second to get pitch then uses false folds for the scream but the pitch stays with the melody often. That’s why her screams have pitch, she talks about it

Hi Andrea! I like this genre as a sort of gateway into harsher musical sounds. Rhythmically and melodically, it has roots in progressive rock, but the touch of harsh vocals creates an edgier, yet still accessible sound. Both Spiritbox and Jinjer are masters of this space. I was interested to hear you mention Courtney's blending of scream and standard vocalization in the same line, which I might call a trademark of her sound. Great reaction!

5:18 The "gutturals" are not made with the "true" vocal cords, but with the ventricular bands, (false vocal cords), with a good technique you will not damage your real vocal cords, there are also several types of gutturals, the metal world has quite a few talented female singers, courtney is one of them, little by little you will get used to the gutturals, you can listen to JINJER - Pisces (Live Session) | Napalm Records, Tatiana Shmaylyuk great talent, there is also "Floor Jansen" a GREAT singer, the current vocalist of the band Nightiwsh, so many names and bands with female vocalists in the world of metal with great talent, that this could be very long to do

Another band I think you would really is Blackbriar. Zora doesn't have the harsh vocals but definitely has a unique sound that's hunting and beautiful. Recommend The Seance or My Souls Demise.

It doesn't really take that much air actually. On the contrary, a common mistake people make when learning is using too much airflow. It has much more to do with how you engage your anatomy, and when done properly it's actually very effortless and comfortable. The way she does it is very advanced, tho.

If you’re putting strain on your vocal chords, you’re doing it wrong. There’s a few different harsh vocal techniques, and her’s specifically is a tonal one, whereas Tatiana in Jinjer’s primary one is non-tonal, so it sounds super low and like there’s no note movement.

Courtney can do both and then some with her harsh vocals. She has a wider vocal range than Tatiana.

Aside from them, Sleep Token is a MUST. Best breakout band of 2023 I'd put money on it. 🤑 The Summoning is a must intro song to them! 🙏
