This is a great, straightforward video that engages, moves at a good pace, and challenges the student. I love that it's highly targeted and that the exercises are so simple that singer can concentrate on proprioceptive action of diaphragm. I will save and recommend this to my students as a warmup to add to their routine!

I LOVE THIS VIDEO. I’m trained in opera but it’s been some years since I was actively singing a lot. But I was able to do these still with little issue!!! Thank you so much

I came here because I had the lung capacity of a four year old who smoked 32 cigarettes a day and worked in the coal mines, but I could hiss out for 50 seconds- maybe I’m just not doing it right-

Hi Kristen, thanks so much for this video! I'm wondering if I still have a lot of air left after hissing out on the various durations, is that acceptable according to the exercise? Or does that mean I should be hissing out faster? Am I supposed to time it so that I'm right at the end of my breath at the end of the hissing out? Also, should I breathe in all the way to full capacity before the retention? Thank you

Hi Brian! If you still have air left, that means you could possibly go longer with that exercise! :)
@varunblr3 жыл бұрын
i practice all combinations Brian,... like i try to take as much as required to ensure i just run outta air when i exhale, i try to take in full lungs and try to exhale everything in the time required (thereby exhaling more volume of air), i try to exhale what i can in the time given and keep some spare .. so i try to experiment with these combos as i believe all these have value when singing depending on how the phrasing goes... :)

This is helpful but during the hissing exercises it would have been helpful to have a prep beat prior to the inhale as I would miss the first beat of inhalation because of lack of in time prep

I do the hiss as an exercise. I can go up to almost 2 minutes. At what point does it become less of a challenge at that I need to advance, and if so how do I advance? Go longer? Try another exercise? Thanks. P.s. What is the tempo you're going at? I figure it's 80 bpm.

I went till 30 but I am sure I did it wrong coz it is the first try, feel like I was letting out really less air none at all and it sounds very small, Is that good or bad?
