Upon further research on this model it looks like it was made to be a competitor to the Husqvarna Viking Onyx 25 and 15 which are white but body looks similar. This has softer lines to it and has features and price point comparable to the Onyx machines. I almost went for the Onyx but after researching I think im getting this one because it is the same price as the onyx 15 but has better features including one step buttonholes and adjustable needle position. I also think it will do better for sewing thicker fabric like canvas denim and twill. Hope that helps anyone looking at these machines.

I actually really like the look of it. I have my grandmother's vintage metal singer and that thing weighs a ton. I also have a vintage Bernina that is all metal and again, its extremely heavy. If this sews well I would definitely buy it. I looked at the pics on the Walmart website and only the outer shell is plastic and the frame inside is metal. It shows detailed pictures if anyone is curious. Since I don't have a dedicated sewing table I think the plastic would make it lighter to move around and even travel with so i don't mind that. If anyone has this and has used it a while I would love to know what you think of it.

Update! I have this machine now and I love it! It is so quiet, and goes through multiple layers of denim like butter! I think it's gorgeous as well, but absolutely love the functionality of it. It has a built-in handle at the top and it is much lighter overall than my vintage machines so lifting/transporting this is an absolute breeze. I'm so happy I took a chance on this machine. Would definitely recommend it!

Its a miss for me. For all the reasons you mentioned. I'd much rather spend more money for a fully metal classic functioning model. In the classic black or in a fun colour.

Instead of Singer wasting time and money on revamping older machines still currently available, I wish they'd put more harp throat space and at least bring back the quality to their products they were known for before the big merge. Even pfaff and viking have 8 in throat space. Singer also had a straight stitch machine that has been discontinued for some time. I never understood that. Would be nice to have that back.

I like it! It's the inside that counts. Not as heavy as mettle. I have an 1802c and it weighs a ton. So this old bird is fine with the outer being plastic. But, if Singer is listening, if your going to pay homage to older machines, use mettle. Maybe do a real limited edition. The ladies and gents will buy them.

I agree that a metal version would’ve been waaaaay better. This is like comparing a Fisher Price toy to a real appliance 😂 This looks like my 2400 with a black paint job. I paid barely $100 usd with discounts.

My concern is longevity. Most new sewing machines aren't built to last, and often built for obsolescence, even the mechanical ones. I also don't like the plastic because I'm the kind of person who likes to get into her machines for oiling and cleaning, and plastic likes to break. And I don't live near any reliable repair shop so it's up to me to attempt to care for the machine. In general (not always I'll admit) vintage machines with metal inside and outside are more durable and more forgiving when it comes to cleaning and maintenance.

YUP, just did, I'm excited for it, currently I have my M 1000 model and im constantly swearing at it. The bobbin plastic case pops out and I break needles when it shifts so I have to put it back into place its a whole bunch of fuc ery. However it matches my vintage 1905 black with gold trim spynx and pyramid. Singer machine i Agree about the plastic cover however a metal cover would make it very heavy, just because you put a skirt on a hoe doesn't make her classy lol sorry bad analogy but it reminds me of your review lol

I really liked the style of this. Really liked the black & gold. They are making all the sewing machines white. It's an eyesore & I don't like it. I did buy this machine. Initially I was super disappointed in the quality of the plastic body. There are plastic warps on the bed, to the right of the needle, on the seam. I might expect that on a cheap kids toy. Not a $300 sewing machine. The cover it comes with is thin & cheap. Otherwise it is a nice machine. Sews well & easy to use. I think it isridiculous that they are making all these plastic parts, but they are cutting down on paper waste so you can't get a manual. How many phones & other devices ending up in the garbage, too? I want a printed manual to keep with my machine.

I like it (but agree the price feels steep. Maybe $200) I'm new to sewing and would love a Machine that is at least attractive since it'll be sitting out in my living room. The big blocky white and grey sewing machines clash with my decor and they also look cheap. I'd love a vintage full metal machine but so far haven't gotten one that works. :-/

It's not nearly as beautiful as the old all-metal machines, but what choice do we have today? If you need a few modern features (just a few, buttonhole and zigzag, am I asking for too much?) there isn't a single beautiful machine. They are all boring, white boxes. I keep thinking if you ask a painter to add a decorative line, it may look better than any other modern machine. This one could look better with a more vintage bigger wheel and overall more pointed design of the past. This machine is still too square and yet may be prettier than the rest of modern machines. I like Singer 160 more except for plastic and computerized part.

Wow, I wish singer would actually make the featherweight out of metal parts instead of wasting time coloring coating cheap plastic machine and giving it a price hike. I ended up with featherweight from a neighbor before I got into sewing. I didn't know the value of it and I sold it for $20 during a move, I totally regret it now that I know what it actually is.
