In the film, there is no big resolution to the song, just a wistful riff of “Happy Birthday” and Jonathan on the verge of blowing out his candles-an unfinished song, just like his unfinished life.

SPOILERS! There actually is a big resolution to the song. The ending title card with the loud electric guitar playing the same note that Louder Than Words and the Happy Birthday song would've resolved into along with the drums was an immaculate way to end the story. The satisifying feeling that it gives may be because the movie is a celebration of Jon's life and the work he has done.

My husband and I used this song for our stillborn daughter’s memorial service. She seemed to have loved the movie when we watched it together; she danced in my womb during every musical number. We didn’t get to hear her cry or laugh, and only felt her kicks and movements until she died in my womb at 38 weeks and 3 days-nearly a week after watching the movie. “Actions speak louder than words”-those are the words that resonate most during these hard times. I listen to this soundtrack, especially this song almost every day as a way of staying connected to her. This song also encompasses why an accident is what it takes for people to learn that this can happen too, and many more questions that truly relate to the tragedy we are experiencing. Thank you for exploring the lyrics as well. It means a lot 💝

You also have to remember this was written during the AIDS crisis. Jon says in the movie that he’s been to so many funerals this year alone and everyone was under 30.

The lady in the front row with the blue scarf if Julie Larson, Jonathan Larson's sister. The Larson family is very involved in Jon's legacy. She was on set a lot during the filming of the movie and said that Andrew did such a good job that at times she really did think her brother was back at times.
@tracirobinson4102 жыл бұрын
I can imagine that. Andrew embodied his spirit so genuinely or perhaps it was the other way around. Those who knew Jonathan and lost him tragically, got him back in powerful ways with this film. Always grateful.

This movie is incredible and as a musician it has a very strong message about arts creation. Jonathan wasn't just performing, he was trying to save lives.

There's a quote by Alejandro Jodorowsky that suits both the lyrics and your comments about people remaining in misery: "Birds born in a cage think flying is an illness." It was the first thing to pop into my head listening to your thoughts. I cannot wait for you to watch the film in its entirety and let us know your thoughts.

Tick, Tick...Boom is a Masterpiece, both musically & in lyrics, but a couple of my all-time favourites from it, besides 30-90, is 'Johny Can't Decide' & 'Come To Your Senses'. I'd definitely recommend checking out both, especially if your really looking to get into some meaningful lyrics. 'Come To Your Senses' also has the full clip up, which gives you a lil bit of context to help understand it better!

"...words." Does this make you feel better? Fantastic message. And yet it is said that 50% of all marriages end in divorce, which isn't true, it's not quite that high. For some groups it's less true than others, but it's a lie that most believe, and some use to justify a divorce for the most minor reasons. So it goes both ways.
