I discovered Nightwish in 2004 when I moved to Germany as an exchange student. I still remember the shock I felt when I first heard Tarja's voice in Wishmaster. The contrast of her angelic operatic voice with the metal music immediately conquered me. I was lucky enough to see Nightwish with Tarja in concert in Mannheim that year. Then Once came out, with Ghost Love Score on it, and it became a favorite of mine upon first hearing. When Tarja was fired and Anette became the lead singer, she really couldn't do the older songs justice like Tarja could. I saw Nightwish with Anette in concert in Montreal Canada in 2007. It was a good concert, but it was not mindblowing like this performance. I kind of lost interest with Nightwish at that time. When they announced yet another unfriendly separation I was really wondering what the hell Tuomas was doing to these women... in spite of it all, it really worked out, because I think Floor is a goddess and this GLS performance is not only the best version of GLS I have ever heard but I find it's one of the best live performances of any song of all time. It's a masterpiece.

Very well said. I wasn't much of a fan of Tarja. But I get purists see her as the "real" singer. But Floor just is so epic; it's undeniable.
@franciscossette9454 жыл бұрын
@@JoeBlow_4 At this point, Floor has been the lead singer of Nightwish almost just as long as Tarja was (1996-2005). I believe her first gig with the band was in 2012, so next year will mark her 9th year. Tarja will forever be the first, and out of nostalgia people may long for those days. I know the Nightwish army frowns upon singer comparisons, but no one can deny that Floor is out of this world amazing. She can nail both the classical singing and the metal side. Her chest, head, mix and belting are all stellar, she can growl, and her range is truly impressive. She can do it all. Tarja was nowhere near as versatile back in 2005. Since 2021 will mark the band's 25th anniversary it would be truly fantastic to see Floor and Tarja reunited on stage. I know Anette has said a reunion will never happen because of how badly she feels she was treated by the band, but I'm hoping 16 years was enough time for Tarja to heal. I really, really have to see Floor live before she calls it quit because that will be the end of Nightwish when she does. Tuomas has already said he will not have it in him to stomach another line-up change. I have to hear the Valkyrie Goddess in person one time at least.
@JoeBlow_44 жыл бұрын
@@franciscossette945 this was a great post. No one cares about seeing an Olzon reunion, and I think Floor is going to move on to bigger things. I hope not. It's just such a fit. But yeah, I doubt Tarja wants anything to do with a reunion. I mean Tuomas wrote a fucking song about firing her.

Great way to start my day! Two lovely ladies watching my favorite song with huge beautiful smiles on their faces. How ironic that Henri mentioned Disney music. Tuomas the songwriter is a big fan of Disney music and movie soundtracks. Did you know that Floor has been doing a vocal masterclass on YT. It is only starting (3 lessons so far) and you will probably find it for beginners. She is starting with the basics. Breathing, posture, and showing us some of her practices and warmup stuff. The word in English is inspirational? I think? We use the term Nightwish army, because we are recruiting legions of fans to this bands amazing music. We think they should be much more popular than they already are for obvious reasons. I loved your reaction and commentary on this wonderful song. Sabina, It was interesting to see Henri with her mouth open all the way through and you looking like you were struck in the heart and might break out in tears at any moment. It's seldom I can watch Nightwish and actually watch the reactors, but you two are truly delightful. Thank you.

Great reaction from Henriette and I loved seeing your glances at the camera each time you knew a surprise was coming along! I think she summed it up fairly well - stunned and happy! We've all been there. You are now a recruiter in the Nightwish army :-) If Henri wants to learn from Floor, she is running a series of masterclasses on her own KZbin channel. Strongly recommended for singers at any level, range or vocal style (because as Henri will learn, she does ALL styles and genres). There is something for any voice, as I'm a bottom bass and have learned a greater range just from her description of what parts to relax (upwards, there is nowhere to go, downwards - the BBC had to search out a mic for me and a sound engineer joked that they should have hired a seismograph when I recorded for them with a choir at their Maida Vale Studios [that was before local radio, which I guess dates me] - they did find one that isn't stored with vocal mics, with only a slight drop off at 20Hz which I now know to be the limit of human hearing). She's given me an octave and change on top of my former upper limit, although I have no idea how much power I have up there and don't have anywhere to practice. I never had direct vocal coaching though - I practised, of course (even picked up somewhere that I should do it in front of a mirror), and we rehearsed twice a week, but nothing beyond using the voice we came with. Mine just vibrates buildings naturally (which is why I can't find anywhere to practice these days). Way too late for me to get any real benefit, as my performing days are long behind me, but if you want to learn from the most versatile singer in the world, there's your chance!

GREAT reaction video. I love the reaction of Henri getting her first 'Floor-gasm'. And it also seemed like she was COMPLETELY 'FLOOR-ed', which is understandable. We've ALL been there hearing Floor Jansen's voice the first time. Floor's voice and vocal range are absolutely AMAZING. Not only was Floor Jansen Classically trained, but she's also been a voice teacher/vocal coach herself in the past. I had a suggestion for another reaction video: Take Hold of the Flame (Live in Tokyo 1984 version). Like Floor, Geoff Tate was also Classically trained. And Geoff Tate's NATURAL vocal range is that of a Baritone (about mid-range if I remember correctly). But due to years of study and practice and training Geoff Tate extended his vocal range up to that of a Tenor. And Geoff Tate hit the higher notes (the G and ESPECIALLY the E5) while STILL being in normal Head Voice and NOT in Falsetto. And Geoff spent MOST of the song in the 5th Octave. But regardless, again GREAT reaction video to this song. You just got a new subscriber.

I have been fortunate enough to see them live on four separate occasions and the experience is unbelievable! I am so annoyed though that their World Tour featuring their newest album was canceled because of you know what, otherwise I would have seen show number 5 this past September. I cannot wait until the tour is rescheduled and they make their way to the US once again. I've been following Nightwish and Floor both since 1997 and I still can't believe that they have been together now over 8 years. Totally mind blowing and the music just keeps getting better. Ghost Love Score will always be on the top of my list and even to this day, Floor still claims GLS is her favorite song to perform. Thank you for your reaction!!

My first reaction was to just sit and weep. I don't have the musical background to be able to appreciate it or judge it on the level you do. Instead it takes me to a very emotional place, partly good but also a lot of sadness. That feeling you describe of wanting to go out and adventure, seize the day, in me instead brings up deeply buried feelings of great potential never realized. So its somewhat bittersweet and I seldom listen to it and always alone. Disturbed's Sound of Silence has a similar effect. It was neat to be able to experience this with you both. Thank you for sharing.

Imo, this is THE BEST song and video to introduce to people who have never heard of Nightwish. The beauty, epic-ness and power of this arrangement is so captivating, it literally reaches in and grabs the core of your soul. And just for a short, much needed moment, we can escape the ugliness of our world and experience genuine peace and beauty.

Very well done! Greetings from Las Vegas, NV. I have had the opportunity to see many of the best shows that LV has to offer and it never ceases to amaze me that almost every first time reactor to Nightwish is as awed by this performance as many were at the Vegas shows. She (Henriette) is no exception. Nightwish is certainly special. Please keep doing this. Peace and Long Life to you both!

I got to see them live in New Zealand just after Floor joined them - the setting was in an old nightclub that housed apprx 1000 people so it was not a big stadium environment, but it was still an amazing performance. That was around 2013. I had been a fan since around 2005 when my friend introduced me to them. I watch the End of an Era concert (with Tarja) regularly, and also the Waken concert every couple of months. I bought the Imaginarium movie they composed all the music for and have watched a few times. I love so many of their individual songs from different albums - but especially like Sleeping Sun, The Islander (studio version with video clip), and While your Lips are Still Red (find the video clip and watch it - its gorgeous). Merry Christmas from New Zealand Sabina and Henri.
