Hello Jennifer Glatzhofer ! Nightwish fans here, your musical quest summoned us. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air festival 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k audience. Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. As I saw, you enjoyed the powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Thank you for your vocal technical insights. Hope you'll continue on this path. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs (with links) with the current lineup of the band you may like (please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and not as something mandatory): "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4nMZaFuma-WfJo "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKvCaIJ5eLafjtU "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqfOiqqFf7-ChLc "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooLYZoSgnsl7jck "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWmoZH9tnMx_g68 "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmbImqeaYqp0bKs "Dark Chest Of Wonders" live at Wacken 2013 (metal, the greatest show opener ever) kzbin.info/www/bejne/haeydWmumsijnpY "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZ_UlnxuZZyNors "Sleeping Sun" live at Vizovice Masters of Rock festival 2016 (ballad) kzbin.info/www/bejne/poezhYh7jJaDe68 "The Islander" live at Tampere 2015 (Marco in charge..) kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKCbn5aBlJqesMU "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJmopnSGjtKSi8k "Alpenglow" live at Wembley 2015 (uplifting / metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKOtp36Qg6qbbck "Sahara" live at Tampa 2016 (middle eastern vibe) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooXZipmClpmKos0 "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXKXZaeglrVopJI "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) kzbin.info/www/bejne/inOylZqun8djoa8 "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmOZo5Ksdr6EZrM "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3-VZGyGl9aVoNE "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqfWl6p3hceKjsU And if you want to hear Floor growling :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Mexico City in 2015 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqbaimSaYrB8qdU Last but not the least - they just released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..) The links presented above are with the current singer of the band, Floor Jansen, since I'm a fan of the recent era of the band, with Floor as the singer. I have nothing against previous singers, but I do not consider myself the most suitable person to give specific recommendations from their repertoires. ** I think it's your place, fans of previous Nightwish eras, to present to the reactors the best recommendations with Tarja Turunen and Anette Olzon, because you know and appreciate them directly. I encourage you to add the best recommendations in the comments. ** That being said, I will add here the message left the other days by an old fan of the band, @Fabrizio Gorla: " To be fair to the old fanbase, you may want to include also some of these songs. Then 15 weeks ago she dropped the third cover, in Dutch: "Is Dit Nou Later" from Stef Bos - already 267K views. Just before Christmas she made a powerful cover of "Ave Maria" - already 282K views. 12 weeks ago she added a remastered / remixed version of the first one, "Let It Go" - already 183K. 10 weeks ago she added to the list a powerful cover of "Adagio" by Lara Fabian (!!!) - 385K views now. Then, just 5 weeks ago she gave us the last one so far: "Oblivion" by M83 - 386K views in 5 weeks.. Thank you! Waiting for more Nightwish reactions. All the best from RO. Stay safe.

@@JenniferGlatzhofer Remember that Floor is very well warmed up by this song - it is the 13th of 15 in their 90 minute headlining set at Wacken 2013, and they had been on stage for 70 minutes at the start of this song, although Floor was doing a costume change during one - which had a slight malfunction, which was remedied in the intermezzo section of this song after putting up with it for the three previous ones - can you see where it is fixed? Once you know, it is clear, but on her entry to the stage after the instrumental ("Last Of The Wilds") and costume change, for "Bless This Child", Floor arrives at the sprint and hits the mic on the millisecond! The Intermezzo on this song was the first chance she had to get it fixed. The whole concert is worth watching, although a few of the songs do have better recordings from elsewhere - "I Want My Tears Back", for example, is better at Buenos aires 2018 - the audio quality is similar (most of the officially recorded ones are good) but the audience energy and interraction makes the difference. Just avoid fan-cams, which have universally dreadful audio quality, unless it is for a song you can't get any other way. And because the band in general and Floor in particular gain energy from live audiences (Floor has said so herself), they are almost always better than the studio work. Singing in an isolated recording booth does not lend itself te the passion you see in the live shows.

I was surprised by two things. The fact that she was nervous that day. I know it’s a normal human reaction but she looked so confident up there. And the second thing when she teared up after that last note. I didn’t expect it since she sang the song 100 times but it still got to her. A lot of musician get jaded by their own music. It was wonderful to see tbh.

Rio 2012 is also wonderful: better camera love for Floor, more audience including them chanting her name after just one concert never having heard her before, clearer choir in the mix, and I'd say more sincere expression overall, not as polished yet as here. She also had a cold which helped the grit & choked up feels. She was auditioning still and not a permanent band member yet. Actually I like Rio more than this more refined "perfect" version, for those reasons.

Please react to Nightwish rendition of "The Phantom of the Opera" with the original Nightwish female vocalist Tarja Turunen. It's from Helsinki Finland 2005 End of an Era concert. Tarja is not as versatile a singer as Floor, but her operatic vocal style really fits the song. But for me the star of the performance is the bassist Marko Hietala, in the role of the Phantom/Eric. For me it is the best version I know. Marko has blown away several opera singers, vocal coaches, music teachers with his vocals. Greetings from Helsinki Finland!

Welcome, Jennifer, from the Southern California contingency of the Nightwish Army. We all love Floor for her amazing talent and grace. This is a band I consider the best of the past 25 years, and my music appreciation began more than 60 years ago. Want to take a moment to recognize the composer: Tuomas Holopainen, and the entire band (Tuomas on keys, Marco on bass, Emppu on guitar and Jukka on drums), plus the London Philharmonic Orchestra playing in the background. The is much that makes this performance so exceptional. This song was written years before this performance, for a different lead singer (Tarja Turunen), yet most of us NW fans recognize that Floor's performance here in 2013 was seminal. Floor is a generational talent. I hope you continue exploring the rabbit hole that is the greatness of Nightwish (with Floor and before), as I have enjoyed. It is very much a rewarding experience. PS: It is "My Fall", not "My Fail."

An 8 year old performance of a 17 year old song still blowing peoples minds, Nightwish been doing this for 25 years now, sooooo underrated and so sad that the majority of the world is only just discovering them, "raw" talent, there's nothing "raw" about it their all masterful and Tuomas Holopainen has got to be the most underrated composer's in history, he is a pure genius at putting together these monumental once heard never forgot scores, as for Floor, words cannot describe her very very few singers can sing anything and everything with perfection. These modern day "popular" music female singers who call themselves "Diva's" Know nothing, Floor has no limits, no boundaries, no specific style, whatever you've heard from her and how ever much , you've seen nothing yet.

Floor really sings her tail off in this portion. It gets better and better.. This is my favorite part of the song. She makes the difficult look easy. Bravo! Leaving the stage while playing ethereal music is an old theater trick to build atmosphere. You distance yourself from the audience so they lose focus on you and fall into the enchanted forest or the endlessness of space or whatever scene youre trying to set.

I am new to your channel. I believe that Floor is a voice goddess. Such range and skill. She engages the audience throughout the video. Plus I love her flicking her hair. What can I say, she gets better and better. One word EPIC! I really enjoy the vocal movement as she nears the end just after the short break. Difficult is Floor's middle name. As I watch you smile, I believe you loved thid as much as we do. Thank you.......

Whenever people talk about opera singers like Pavarotti and Callas, this performance has to be in the histoery books. Not to mention the stamina of performing not one single song with weeks of relaxing, but blasting dozends of songs in an open air concert. Godlike.

I really love watching Vocal coaches break down Floor's performances. It gives such insight on technique and vocal verbiage I would never even think about. Thanks Jennifer...and I have to say you have such a pleasant face and accent...🙂

Excellent Jennifer, you're going to enjoy the Nightwish rabbit hole !! I eagerly look forwards to some more of your analysis of Nightwish, Gabriel has supplied his superb introductory suggestion list which you would be well advised to follow. What a lovely British speaking voice you have, and you seriously underlined that geographic location by saying "loo" without a second thought ! Nowhere else in the world would it be heard !! Thank you so much and do keep going, you'll not be disappointed I guarantee. All the best from a real old fart superannuated Brit in SW France.

The little orchestrated interlude is a part of the original album version too. It's for building tension, i guess. Well, that's our Floor's ordinary day at the office. Thank you and Happy Easter! ⛄🐣🐇👍

Hey there Jen!!!! I saw it was you and I had to click on this video. Lets get deep into this masterpiece of a show. Floor is a vocal beast. A damn good looking beast, but a vocal beast nevertheless! I am interested in what you have to say. You usually manage to teach me something & you often make me laugh. For that I thank YOU!!!! Lets go......... Yes the notes are long. As is her cape! My favorite part is near the end, they leave the stage. When they return Floor blasts us away with her voice!!!! At times she is the conductor. Directing the crowd!! And on a side note she rides horses. I think you smiled the entire video. For a darn good reason. This is a masterpiece!! I saved the best for last --- She recently BEAT cancer!!! You go girl................... Please take care Jen and keep these lessons and reactions coming, please!

Hi Jennifer. That was such a nice reaction. Floor is a brilliant singer and performer. It's not just her singing, it's her personality on the stage. As well as the whole band. They have great charisma when or where ever they perform. Interaction with the audience and with each other. That's what makes these videos so enjoyable to watch. See you soon with Nightwish. Stay safe.

I think Jennifer G just may be the best reactor and analyzer of Floor Jansen on youtube. I'm not a singer and I know very little about the mechanics of singing but Jennifer's calm analysis of how Floor uses her voice seems to me to be right on the mark. Even I can tell she knows what she's talking about. Well done Jennifer!!

Floor is a very versatile vocalist- you discover something new about her singing in almost every song. To get a quick "sampler" watch Romanticide and Ghost River from the same Wacken 2013 show, and Yours Is An Empty Hope from Wembley 2015. And it that will intrigue you to find more about Marko Hiatala's singing (the bass player) then the next things to watch would be While Your Lips Are Still Red from Wembley 2015, and The Islander from Tampere 2015. Also, may I say your voice is lovely. :)

During the interlude by the London Philharmonic Orchestra the band members always leave the stage. Actually, bit of trivia, Floor had a stuck zipper on the left side of her outfit, which got fixed at this time. Enjoyed your reaction and commentary. More Nightwish please. 😄🤘

Well... as you've come to know by now, you've appeared on the Nightwish army's radar. Expect a lot more visits. And since it's impossible to leave it simply at Ghost Love Score and you are bound to take the incredible Nightwish journey, i have just one request - please pay proper respect to The Poet and The Pendulum since it's probably the most sacred song to any Nightwish fan. The story behind it is really deep and don't be ashamed if you're about to cry. IT's the greatest respect you can pay and we all appreciate it. Tbh i kinda envy everyone who is just now about to embark on a Nightwish journey - i really wish i could experience all of it for the first time again.

This just turned up in my feed. It’s still fun to see someone experience their first Floorgasm. Been I Nightwish fan, forever, Floor is in a class of all her own. The Wacken 2013 is in my opinion the best live concert recording ever, bar none.

I have heard that around 80,000 people attended this event. They are pumped. And then we have Floor - a rock goddess. Such a voice. Plus she is hot, cape and hair flips. Engages the audience involves them in the show. I am a bit smitten by this lady. She is well trained and great at her craft. She just builds it to a climax. Plus the band is working their butts off. You can see the crowd surrendering to the sound. This video and their skill brings me to tears. What skill.!!!! I would love to see this. Money, who cares. Worth it! Masters at work here.

"My fall…". Really good reaction. It's always great to find new people, especially singers, discovering this great song, terrific group, and immaculate singer. More Nightwish please, perhaps starting with 'Storytime' and 'Romanticide' from the same show. 'Ghost LoveScore' is the gateway drug into the rabbit hole if I may mix my metaphors, so it's interesting that you started with the Beste Zangers, 'Phantom'. Other personal favourites of mine: Floor and Troy performing 'How's The Heart' from the latest album, 'Shoemaker' Lyric Video, also from the new album (HumanIINature), 'Dead Boy's Poem' (Buenos Aries, 2018), anything else from the Wacken, 2013 show - it's all great. Too many to mention, including all her other Beste Zangers performances. You build up to some of Nightwish's monumental tracks such as 'The Poet and The pendulum' at Wembley Arena and 'The Greatest Show on Earth' at Tampere, 2015. You will not be disappointed!

Yes Jen she is great. I read a comment that said most people sing what they can. Floor sings anything she wants to. First time on your channel. I enjoyed this so much. Floor is a bad ass of a singer. It starts at around 10 - something she leads into the last movement. That is my favorite part. Thank you lady.
