Avi is also a beautiful human. He's known for taking tons of extra time to interact intimately with fans...like, after shows, even if the bus is leaving and everyone else is on it (and they've all either stopped to say something or waved or what have you), and fans are sort of separated from where they are, Avi will stop and express sincere regret that he can't talk to everyone individually...and he'll say something heartfelt. Or, if there is a chance to i Tera the, he'll stay the longest, take pictures with every single person, hug and connect with them all one-on-one. He's special.

I think this song is about how Avi came to the decision to leave Pentatonix. Being on the road was tough and he spent many sleepless nights worrying about his family and other things. But he turned the lights off on the stage and decided to forge his own path with something that better fits his his nature. Pentatonix always filmed their first videos on a couch. So in this video, he gets up off the couch and walks away.

Sorry, but it's not. I met Avi last month after a concert in Michigan. We talked one-on-one (long story on how that happened) for about 10 minutes. I asked about social media speculation that this video had to do with him leaving Pentatonix .... six lights, six years with the group, or for six members (their producer and arranger, Ben Bram, is the unofficial sixth member of the group), etc. He said he was shocked by the speculation. He said it was about feeling anxiety (Avi mentioned he experiences anxiety) and not being able to sleep, hence the title of the song. But...."It turns out fine," meaning, it will all be OK in the end. Nope, nothing to do with PTX at all. In fact, Avi said to me, "I thought there were only four lights in the video." I said, No, there were six. LOL He was the most charming, unaffected, sweet man ... despite winning three Grammys and being so, so talented. A good man. And, I must add, he gives the BEST hugs (I got two of them)!

Yvonne - wow, thanks for sharing that. I'm always amazed when those of us who listen to music, read so much into a song - and then find out that the artist hadn't intended anything so deep, and is surprised by what their fans are finding. The best artists are the ones who respond with, "Wow, that's...really deep. Glad you could find so much meaning in my fluff, and I'm glad it helped you!" :)
@JackieBorelli7 жыл бұрын
Yvonne Claes wow, thank you for sharing that - we Pentaholics sure love to speculate, don't we? I knew the song was about his anxiety, but I'm surprised it didn't necessarily have to do with PTX, especially with the couch & the lights - both the amount of them & the supposed tie-in to Light In The Hallway.
@curvytangerine7 жыл бұрын
@Yvonne Claes: omg, thank you so much for this news. I'm really glad to hear all of that. @R Etset: I hardly think a song about anxiety attacks is "fluff" or has any lack of depth. As someone who's struggled with that my whole life, I saw the meaning in this song easily, and it's very important to me. I get what you're trying to say about people finding different meanings in music, but... come on dude, lol
@MSKPELLEGRINO7 жыл бұрын
curvytangerine you might want to re-read the 'fluff' comment. The sentence subject was 'the best artists', not Avi or this song specifically. Many artists are often surprised (and delighted) by what we take away from their creations, even if it differs from the artists' original intent.

What?! Crying at music is the most beautiful experience you can have!!! It means that a person's voice or a certain lyric or theme of a song touched your heart in such a powerful way that it makes you overwhelmed with emotions💗

Also, a lot of us believe this song is about his struggle to be in Pentatonix while at the same time wanting a normal life. He suffers from anxiety and was always away from his family, all of this took a toll on him.. He keeps repeating it turns out fine in the song because, in the end, he decides to leave the group and start on this new unknown adventure of life. Although his new path may be scary and unkown everything will turn out fine.
@jeancaldwell2337 жыл бұрын
zbea mu Avi said in an interview, and unfortunately I don’t remember where, that this is not about leaving PTX. The number of lights don’t symbolize the years with them, or the members plus their arranger, Ben Bram. He even thought there were only four lights. If I’m remembering correctly, he wrote this song some time ago, not recently. Does anyone else remember more about this? I love your reactions! I always look forward to them.

RE crying - I was told a story long ago, about cultures in the Middle East that have 'tear cups', that they catch tears in. A pastor of mine, who was visiting The Holy Lands, was talking to her host-family about it, and mentioned "so you capture your tears so you can remember the person who died and your grief?" And the host corrected her - "No! Nonono - we capture our tears whenever we are moved so much that we cry. Tears of grief, yes - but also joy, or rage, or from when we listen to music or watch the sunset. Tears are a sign that you are living in the moment, and have let the wonder of creation into your heart. And we capture them, so that we are reminded of when we let ourselves feel God's gifts most fully." That has really stuck with me since. In my house, we tell our kids "we honor our tears". So - honor *your* tears - they're just a sign that you are letting yourselves be touched by the music, and are really the greatest compliment you could pay to the artists, and also to all us randos out here on the Intertubes, that you're willing to share your joy with us. Thanks so much!

Hi guys. This is how we are supposed to feel! Yes, his voice is still "creamy". I think this is special. I hope he can keep this coming. Joy is the BEST way to use tears. Please, understand. I have a disease which attacks the moisture producing glands in the body. It actually physically hurts to cry, so I work hard to NOT cry. But, me having been a singer, yes a beautiful soprano voice, and having lost a lot of that, I know when to stop fighting tears. I would rather use them on those perfect moments that are found in music and life. My tears are precious. ( I actually have tear duct plugs, permanent, so I keep more of my tears on the eye surface, as opposed to draining down the back of the throat. Weird, I know.) So, please do not begrudge yourself those tears of joy. You let them loose because you must. I won a car one time, and they didn't like my reaction, so in the commercial, on the radio, they had someone do a whole bunch of screaming, where me, I cried silently. They couldn't understand it. Joy, in the media, is way over done. We don't always jump and scream. We often sit back and softly cry. We are all normal. So..., Cry.. I don't think anyone minds. Thanx, Mindy

I just love this! I can't remember where I read about the symbolism back when it was first released, but there are several deeper themes woven in. The couch to show how PTX started with their vids. All the chaotic lights in the beginning to symbolize the group and their hectic schedule. Then Avi breaking off and walking into the forest towards a single light...it gives me goosebumps. So good (and slightly sad at the same time).

I just finish watching your Mario/Scott reaction and you follow it with Avi's "Quarter Past Four"?!?!? I can't!! FYI - for a LOT of pentaholics/Avrielites this song is very special. It helped really solidify his mindset for leaving the group. While his personal video made it clear, this was released after and I couldn't stop crying! Not just because I understood his decision a bit better, the Pentatonix "easter eggs" (the lights & the couch) but it spoke to me (and so many people) in a personal way. Thank you again, for your continued support and reactions for this AMAZING group!!!! #itturnsoutfine

This track is from his debut solo EP titled "Sage and Stone", and my favorite track ❤, love that you guys watched this. The EP is available on itunes and other platforms, it consists of 5 tracks, all folk oriented music, and all beautiful tracks. 😍 I love that music is important to you, and you really appreciate it for what it is. I listen to some folk myself occasionally, but Avi I can listen to all day all night. His soothing tone just warms my heart and makes it heavy at the same time, it hurts! Love this being to bits!! ❤❤ He's a precious bean! ❤ PTX did a collaboration with Todrick Hall on "Wizard of Ahhs", its wonderfully put together, and in the end there is a small part of Avi singing Home and it is literally the most *beautiful* thing ever! I hope you guys watch this, and when you do, please pay close attention at the end especially. Its a treat 😊❤ Love ya'll

First off, Life is Strange is a absolutely fantastic. Not since "Journey" have I randomly download a game that made me feel that much. Second, Maybe my wires are crossed, but I try and only waste tears on joy, and only solemnly reflect on pain. But to summarize, I'm new to your channel, but keep coming back because you both really seem to enjoy the music/videos to the point of not wanting to ruin it by talking during the video, which I know in some corners negates a "reaction" video, but in this case, your reaction IS your silence :)

This song is about Avi leaving Pentatonix. I think the lights going out are representative of him becoming a solo. And the light in the filed (Nature) at the end is him following his light. The couch is an homage to PTX songs on couches, but he leaves the couch for the forest. SO beautiful and yet so sad. A new beginning but also a goodbye. Makes me cry every time I listen to it. If I have been going through a time when I have been stuffing my feelings to get through things, and I need to get it all out and become a "human being" again instead of a "human doing" I play this on repeat and cry. Thanks for doing a reaction to this beautiful song. :-) BKK
