I've read most of the comments and there is a theme - PTX is special. Not just their musical talents but as people. Avi was special to me and most pentaholics understand him and know why he had to do this. I will say something about this announcement that made Avi and the group different from others. I am older than the average age of the fan base so I've gone through a few times where my favorite bands have split up and most not on amicable circumstances. Avi made this announcement after their summer tour dates were released and he agreed to finish out the tour. I feel that he didn't have to do that, but that's who he is. I wasn't planning on seeing them this summer because they were not performing in San Francisco. So I bought a ticket to Chicago to see them in August to say my "good bye" to that chapter of PTX for me. I went with someone that wanted to meet them at the buses after the concert. I've never done that and I'm awkward with celebs 'in the wild". I've been blessed to have met them at various VIP meet & greets so when I went to the buses, I hung back and let the other fans interact. THIS is why Avi is special: When he felt he'd seen/talked to everyone, he looked around and said "did I get everybody?" I didn't say a word, I was standing about 20 feet from the fence where he was and it was DARK. He looked at me and said "What about you?" THAT'S who Avi is! He understands how important he is to his fans. :-)

YES! So glad you reacted to these. Oh wow, I am tearing up so much watching Avi's farewell message and your reactions to it. I feel particularly sad for the other PTX members. Scott was on the verge of tears, Mitch looked expressionless -- just trying to hold it together, like he was having an out-of-body experience -- Kirstie was angry and sad, and Kevin looked the most OK with Avi's decision, likely because he knew about it before the others since he and Avi were longtime roommates. To give you perspective, Avi told me when I met him that he and PTX toured for 8 months during 2016 alone, a time during which his mom had surgery. He felt bad for not being there for his mom. Avi is a gentle soul. Being on the road that long and away from his family really hurt Avi. He just couldn't do it anymore. I soooo respect him for that. Like he said to me, "You only get one set of parents. I don't want to have any regrets." Such a moral man... I agree. Avi just wasn't a bass. His overtones alone were so amazing-- and rare.
@rlhcat76627 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing this background. When I saw videos from 2016 of Avi and his folks, it seemed like something was going on, but didn't really know. I do wish they had been able to find a way to let him tour with them part of the time. but you have to trust that they knew best. There are many really great basses out there, and perhaps they will find their 5th part just as magically as they did the first time.

Avi's message is still probably the saddest video I've watch on the internet. PTX's fast pace was something that a lot of us saw being a problem for years because they were touring and recording constantly, with very little substantial time off. It's just a shame that it ended with Avi leaving and not the group taking some well deserved time to slow things down a bit. Still, great video guys! Your reactions to Scott in sing were perfect XD

Great reaction! Sing is one of my favorites of theirs. And we all miss Avi, but he's doing better now that he's on his own! And we now have a new person to love, Matt, and he is KILLING it with the group so far, there are exciting times ahead!
@srslyboomer7 жыл бұрын
Man, you two hit the proverbial nail right on the head. "Sing" is amazing. Avi's message is heartbreaking. And it's for the same reason - we're Pentaholics, because PTX invites us to share who they are, and what's in their hearts, and in return we give them All The Feels. Watching Avi's message the first time, I felt like I have when having one of those 3AM conversations over beer with a really really close friend, and finding out what troubles they've been having - it's an honor to be trusted with the knowledge, and heartbreaking at the same time because there's nothing you can really do, except be there in the moment, listening. I love PTX because of how much they love us, and how much love we as Pentaholics give back. Sometimes it hurts - but I think they and their community is sooooo worth it :) Thanks for sharing, guys!

Whenever I see this clip, I'm always struck by Scott's response. All the other members were stoic (though I don't mean they didn't have feelings about it), but Scott couldn't help but hug Avi two different times. He has a big heart, and he couldn't help but react to Avi's emotion.
@pat_in_va86054 жыл бұрын
To those watching this video now, the part about Avi leaving, you have to understand that he did not grow up with Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin. He first sang with them the day before they had their try-out on Sing-Off. From what I have seen the group needed to be more than a trio, which is what they were when Scott got the bug to try-out for the Sing-Off show. (It might even be that Scott, Kirsten, and Mitch were all doing other things by that time - after high school). They met up with Avi and Kevin in L. A. and decided they could make a group for the show. That Avi stayed for six years is actually pretty good when you consider it became a full time, overtime gig. When you hear his music since leaving you can see that his musical interest is quite different than the pop music path of Pentatonix. They all shine, each and every one of them. Avi's star is simply in a different galaxy now.

This message from Avi came around the time that his mother was going through her third round of cancer treatment. He had already missed the first two rounds of cancer treatment that she went through. Thank God you reacted to Sing because I needed that energy to rewatch Avi's message. I agree with you guys, Avi will always be missed but as other said, it's a just a new phase and I think it's going to be amazing nonetheless (just another kind of amazing): for now it seems that Matt Sallee it's going to be the new bass and he seems perfect for the job (he was a fan a PTX and I think that Avi has helped in choosing him). PS: I feel you Ali, Kirstin's reaction during the message has always struck me the same way (sad and angry for things you can't control)

I love Sing. Such a fun song. And it's such a great anthem for PTX. Singing is all they do, really. Avi was the humble soul of PTX. Yes, he sang bass, but he is a bassoprofundo and had such presence when he sang. But PTX is a deeply talented group and they'll be just fine without him. I'm genuinely excited to see how their sound evolves. Matt and Kevin will be creating something totally new.

I think you guys should react to a live Sing video because it’s the last song of the track list and they are SUPER energetic during it! Maybe even the last one with Avi... it’s heartbreaking because it’s an Avi slideshow in the back and they all cry and hug at the end. But i think you guys should watch it, you’ll probably cry because the entire band is so emotional during the whole concert but it shows how much of a family they really are. Also you guys should react to “Matt Sallee (so far)” or something along those lines, he’s the new bass and he’s incredible. He has a great energy and is an amazing singer (huge range!) and he’s also super young. Definitely super different from Avi but I think if they were similar, it would be way too weird. Matt brings a new fun and exciting energy to ptx and as much as I LOVE Avi so so so so much, Matt is amazing and not only a great bass, but has a great personality.

Hi guys - I understand your reasons for concern re the new bass. I cried for a whole month after Avi´s message thinking that PTX was done. I was able to see them in their 2017 Summer Tour and then see the December Christmas tour as well. Matt (the new bass) is incredibly talented and nice and I was amazed ts how PTX has been able to maintain their essence even with Avi gone. It still felt like PTX, but with a twist... if that makes sense. It´s obviously never going to be the same but I think they´ve done a great job picking Matt. I hope he stays permanently.

The most important thing for him. Would worse if he would stay and get depressions or so worst, like suicide... hard. Now, for him, for PTX, for (hopefully) Matt and all of us, the fandom, a new chapter started. And we all should look forward not only backwards. And I for myself am excited for what future will bring! Love you guys! Thanks again. Hi from North Germany. 😉

I recommend you check out Seboss12's videos as she captured the intros where Avi introduces "Light in the Hallway" (have tissues handy) and they end with "Sing" intro from an emotional scott where they surprise him with a video montage of "Avi Moments" as they sing. Those 2 songs are the encore. It was amazing and her videos captured the night perfectly! There are lot of videos from the VT show but her's have the intros which I feel are important. Quality is good as well. I'll leave the links in a response to this comment. I'll shut up now! Love watching your reactions! This is the first time I think I saw Ali tear up! :-)

The "Sing" video was a gift to the fans. There were several celebrities in there, and KZbinrs like Hassan Ahmed and Tyler Oakley. But most of those bits of film were just sent in by ordinary fans, mostly lip-synching to a brief clip of "Sing!" that PTX sent out ahead of time for that purpose. And they put out a call to that pier a few hours ahead of filming, so lucky fans who could get there got to take part. And then...Avi. I've wanted for a long time to see your reaction to "Sing!" but I put it off because I knew how hard it would be to rewatch Avi's announcement. If I focus on any one member of PTX, I'm so overwhelmed with admiration and love that I feel like that one is my "Favorite." But Avi...somehow he's always been the MOST favorite of all, for me. He needed to leave, and PTX is going to be just fine. They were wise to pick Matt, someone with tons of talent but a very different singer and a very different personality from Avi. Avi may not get the invitations to be on national television, but he's still making music, is about to release an album, and will be touring soon--at his own pace. Meanwhile, we still have a treasure trove of 6 years of PTX-with-Avi music! Even so, I still just cried, all through the video and the whole time I've been writing this.

You can replace Avi with another "bass" singer, but there will NEVER be another AVI. Avi brought the best out of everyone in Pentatonix as a group, I've watched tons of videos of them bonding from beginning to end. They were like a big family and were a family. So I understand why Avi had a hard time with his decision. Not being able to catch a break or to see your family or to have a moment for yourself.....it's hard. Most people will try to say that he could've or should've or what they would've done in his position but you never know until you have been placed in that position. I still consider him a Pentatonix. He just stepped down. One thing we should remember is that he never said that he wouldn't return. So I keep my fingers crossed. The new guy Matt Sallee is awesome. He's not Avi, but he's bringing his flavor to Pentatonix and I love it as well. You should listen to Sweater off their new Christmas album. I LOVE IT and listen to it every day besides Daft Punk and Bohemian Rhasphody.

1- Not only do they perform "Sing" in live concert, for the 2016 performance we attended (Raleigh, NC), they did it as the last encore song!Here is a link to the KZbin video of that concert (They happened to stream it online live. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnjOdJ1rfM2Amq8 2. I believe that the video announcing Ali's departure was posted last Spring - perhaps before you first reacted to a Pentatonix video. Avi's tentative replacement, Matt Salehe, did the 2017 Holiday shows & Christmas tour with PTX. It looks permanent. But, as you expected, he is good; but he is no Avi. Avi had a degree in music and formal opera voice training; so he had a major creative roll in arranging & some composing. PTX will still be a treasure as long as the other 4 original members stay together. 3. Kirstie is now in NYC preparing to appear on Broadway in the musical "Kinky Boots". That plus the other changes are the likely reasons she postponed marrying Jerome Michael Lewis (duet partner in Disney Medley with Voctave). I expect PTX members to continue persuing individual projects while collaborating on albums & tours as Pentatonix. 3. I am one of the few who happened to watch the "Sing Off" S3E1 show during Autumn 2011, then following them through the competition and since. I am now 67. My wife and both of our adult daughters are also "Pentaholics." To be sure, Pentatonix as a group crosses genre and generations... That's true talent. We have at least one copy of every CD/album released by Pentatonix. P.S. To date, my wife & I have attended 4 concerts by Home Free Vocal Band since they won Sing Off season 4. We have their albums, too.

About Avi's leaving we all share the sorrow. On a brighter side, his net worth about the time he left was reported to be 8 million. They alwayts shared equally.

You don't need to be worried. Pentatonix is made up of 5 members.. not just a bass. Now I know why you didn't react to their current Christmas releases? They could have used some reactions... but noooooooooooooo. I was really surprised when your channel ignored their new stuff... but were watching Avi's new group. I'm sad to see them being treated like this after they just lost someone who they thought was like family. (right up until his message). And They aren't being given a fair chance. Matt has an energy that is so unique and is having a great effect on the groups live performances! They're really dancing! And Matt has guts! He had to learn a HUGE Pentatonix music Library because they threw him in and it was sink or swim. They sang so many REALLY hard numbers LIVE, over and over again. Bohemian Rhapsody, Aha!, Imagine, Hallelujah, Evolution of Michael Jackson, all of their Christmas music, Daft Punk... and I see fans who are supportive of Matt. He is widely and openly embraced into our "community". Can you imagine seeing Kevin and Matt dancing up front in a hip hop duet? It was so cool! And the rest of the group came back to life during that holiday tour! We have missed seeing choreography like they used in The Sing-Off and acting less formal live. They were dancing! Mitch and Santa did "The bump" in Up on the Rooftop"! and the 1st time was spontaneous... but they kept it! Fans were saying that "I finally have my Pentatonix back! They're so energized and moving on stage like in The Sing-Off!" It jurts, still, that Avi did this... and I'm having a hard time with the timing. Right at a pinnacle of their career and popularity? He states valid reasons for leaving.. the pace is just too much... and starts slinging videos with his new group up on KZbin so fast it is far too coincidental and ready for recording. He had prepared for this... but hadn't prepared PTX for it, and didn't help them gind a replacement before he left. and all the "We must support Avi!" cries went up and way too many of the PTX fans dropped the remaining 4 members of that group like yesterdays trash and flocked to Avi. He's not cast out! There is no "poor Avi " here! For the love of all things holy! He CHOSE to leave! He planned it out so he would be ready to get right to work with his new band. That was in bad form. Imagine not knowing this was coming? I felt punched in the chest. I kept looking at the rest of the group and Kirstin, Scott and Mitch all seemed like their world had just been sucked into a black hole. LOOK at them! They've been crying! FYI.. Everyone is making sacrifices. They make special concessions for each other to help them be able to do this. Kevin has strong religious beliefs, and isn't supposed to work on the Sabbath (Friday at sunset to Saturday at sunset), so PTX stopped doing shows for that tour on Kevin's Sabbath. I don't know how they've handled that over time.. but was recently shown something so beautiful about that group and Kevin himself... During the Holiday tour (sold out venue after venue) for the girst time in 6 yesrs they had to cancel a show when medical personnel put her in Lockdown from the flu. She showed up at sound check with a bucket bedide her... quite the trooper! But her symptoms rapidly declined. And she was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The powers that be did NOT want the band delivering the news to a packed audience, who'd all stood in line for hours in the cold Boston air to see them. But Scott and the guys insisted that they deliver the news to the people that had paid money to see them. PTX takes that responsibility to the people who come to see them very seriously. You should have seen how distressed they were to have to deliver the bad news. Scott sounded like he was going to burst into tears, explaining that they had no say in the decision.. and that they WOULD come back and perform for them! Or, of course, they could have their money back. But they promised to be back asap. So they came back on a Friday, the night after the tour should have ended. They came back to Boston as promised. But It was on Kevin's Sabbath. Do you know what Kevin did? He realizec that these were midtly Christmas songs and that's about Jesus being born. So, the content of the songs met Sabbath rules. But he can't work on the Sabbath. So he wouldn't accept payment for performing that night. These people are going through a LOT with Avi's sudden departure.. but they're going above and beyond to continue to create music in an innovative way and stay true to who they are and always have been. On social media we keep trying to find out if we (the fans) get to keep Matt. He's not Avi. Of course not! But he's Matt. And Matt is hardworking and upbeat and has genuine humility and a joyful spirit that is healing the wounded hearts we all have. please give PTX a chance?
