Our world would be a much better place for children if we eliminated these kind of criminals. The excuses that children were the perpetrators are the worst. Child sexual assault resulting in murder, yes. Lifetime no parole. However if sexual assault of a minor child had a conviction of lifetime in prison then about 1 in every 20 men and 1 in every 100 women would be in jail for their lifetime for THAT offense. Disgusting and true. It hasn't gotten worse its just being reported more to the police. Then just think, that for every pedophile sexual encounter that IS reported another is not. Many know about it and cannot leave or are adult victims of assault themselves from the same offender. It's a cruel and disgusting world that we live in. Protect yourself and your children. It can be a stranger danger situation OR it could be someone in your own family.

He was found within the hour, in a man’s car at a local football oval. The man was there to buy drugs from someone and left my 6yo brother locked in his car. We lived in a small town, everyone knew everyone. A man and woman walking their dog recognised him based on his description on local radio. The man refused to leave the area near the car, the woman ran to call the police. I am so grateful for it. He was scared, but he was not hurt. I was married to a guy who was in prison for several years before we got together. He was moved around a lot for fighting, and talked about his time locked up in five different Michigan prisons. He told me that in all of them, guys who hurt kids are made to suffer. These are men who prey on little children. They’re weak and pathetic. Utterly defenseless against other men. It seems insane to me that the Amber alert wasn't a thing until Amber's mom fought for it. You would think that it would be an automatic thought for radio stations and cell phones to broadcast whenever a child has been abducted. It's a great thing her mom did which has saved many lives. Watching the little girl getting rescued by the cops was happy but sad at the same time seeing what she had to deal with...
@effeojnedib7208 Жыл бұрын
There weren't cell phones back then. We didn't know anything happened until all the sirens and cops went flying down the street. It was a great step in the right direction, implementing the Amber Alert system. There was a new flash on TV within the hour. Many people organized, and many went out on their own, searching for the black truck and any signs of Amber. I believe the perp was able to ditch the truck quickly, in a garage or shop somewhere. Because it would be difficult to hide at that point.

Almost all Amber alerts are a non custodial parent taking their child in violation of court orders. Not abductions by a stranger.
@TheEudaemonicPlague Жыл бұрын
Things like that don't spring out of nothing. Someone has to think of it for the first time, and other factors have to align before the idea takes root. At the time, the internet was still not all that common outside academic circles. Cell phones were analog, and most people's news came from broadcast television or radio. It wasn't, by any means, an obvious thing to do. Note the fact that it took ten years for every state to adopt the system. To effeojnedib7208: Obviously, you're pretty young, if you were unaware of cell phones. They most certainly existed by then. Bell Telephone created the first cellular telephones in 1947, and the first commercial cellular network was in Tokyo, 1979. After that, it grew fairly rapidly. I recall them quite well...big, clunky, ugly things.

They were absolutely nothing like todays phones, and you couldn’t receive messages on them. I’m not sure what point you were trying to make, because there would be no way to send a message, and even if you could, it probably wouldn’t transmit to anymore nearby. Cell phones weren’t commonly used until the late 90’s, and most people didn’t have a cell phone until after September 11th, 2001.

The Amber Alert has saved many kidnapped children, so it has been a wonderful success! It also led to some states creating a silver alert program that is used for elderly people who wander off and go missing and has absolutely saved their lives too. Donna, I'm so sorry about what happened to Amber. I hope you know that she would be so proud to know how many lives have been saved in her name because of you. You have changed the world every single time a life has been saved with the Amber Alert and the Silver Alert ❤
@JarethTheGoblinKingForever Жыл бұрын
The Silver Alert is a good idea too. Don't get me wrong, grown adults should be free to roam and wander, but if a person has dementia, Alzheimer's or any other disease that mentally and cognitively impairs them as they age, they're much more vulnerable and at a higher risk of being taken advantage of. There are also pervs out there who "enjoy" grandmothers, and criminals who see older people as easy victims to steal from, ransom and rob. We need to do more to protect society's most vulnerable people.

People always think the past was painted pink and everything was perfect. There was probably the same or more incidents like this, there were just more kids nobody cared about, less information about events happening outside your area, and the police force and investigation tactics weren’t like today. My grandma had 11 siblings, two died of sickness as infants, one run away at 15 and they never heard about him again and one drowned at 11. It was normal to have a ton of kids and not have all of them survive, it wasn’t a big deal. How many of those kids that run away forever or had “accidents” back in the day were actually victims of crimes? How many predators go on vacation to poor countries and commit their crimes there without nobody batting an eye? Did someone reported in the multiple kids of the Weinstein or the Belgian p*d*phile ring? People are more careful about their kids because they have less of them, so they can be more attentive, and every time there is an incident like these (with “important” kids at least) it gets reported everywhere for weeks with a lot of detail, they remember every case, which makes it seem like is something that happens every day or more.

I can't believe this is still unsolved. The loss of Ambers life to put in motion the Amber Alert that has saved thousands of kids is so sad it had to be her but had it not been then it wouldn't had been put in effect. Her mom is remarkable. Maybe advanced DNA testing or ancestry genealogy could help catch this monster.

Did they follow up on the doco crew and people they may have told about her. It's too coincidental for my liking. The DNA search should start with that crew.

Doesn't it seem so strange that Amber was abducted weeks after the documentary had been filmed. Could it not have been someone from the crew🤷🏼♀️? That was my Instant thought tbh!
@JT-vw4ts Жыл бұрын
Same! I hope they looked into it! Seems too obvious to overlook. Plus, the same crew was following the mom while the police was searching. Great way to know what they’re about to do one step ahead.

And she was an excellent student, you know, followed rules - and yet for some reason decided to go beyond where she was allowed to go and somebody in a truck just HAPPENED to be there waiting to snatch her up? Naw bruh... somebody in that welfare crew secretly set something up with her and were waiting for her to get there or something 🧐

That poor girl that was saved, the bed enraged me so much. The horrific monsters who do this need to put away for life first time they touch or look at images of s/a , they keep letting them out until they kill.

Those police who rescued that girl are hero’s. They covered her up so she wouldn’t be exposed and carried her to safety. Imagine how much relief she must had felt. And that picture with the two officers standing at her bedside warms my hear.

People are monsters. They have no rights to take a loved one by someone. NOBODY should ever do this anymore, if they do, we have the Amber Alert. I´m VERY thankful for the Amber Alert for lost or abducted children. RIP Amber.

I remember the shock to our community. I was living a few blocks away during this time. The cops flew down Browning St. that Saturday afternoon. I was outside working in the yard, but the sirens brought many other neighbors out. At the time, it was guessed that no witnesses came from the laundrymat because most were illegals and afraid of deportation. It was also suggested that Amber's body was found down stream from the actual dump site on the following Wednesday, because the rains were heavy enough to cause the creek to flow heavily. There was another child abduction not long afterward, just up towards Saginaw. Her name was Opal Jennings. The perp fit the description, but was in a car. The perp was caught, and eventually admitted to kidnapping Opal, although she had not been found at that time. I believe her body was found some time later (a few years ?) I never heard much about the perp after. Ambers mother and I stopped at the same 7/11 on Abrams St, many mornings. It was sad and surreal to see the back seat of her car fill with stuffed animals from Ambers Memorial each week. RIP little Amber. I still cry for your baby, Donna.

I remember reading articles on this stuff. usually i don't care about messed up stories and stuff but after i came across the autopsy article, i genuinely had the worst feeling i had in my chest in a while. to think someone's capable of mutilating and leaving an innocent little girl like that. truly fucked up.

In France we have the "kidnapping alert" system since the 2000. It's directly based on Amber Alert. So far it has helped find children safe and sound 24 times. Amber's legacy has not only saved the lives of many kids in the United States, but in so many other countries as well. I'm so grateful for the Hagerman family and their fight. My heart goes out to them and I truly hope they will get justice for their daughter one day. May she rest in peace.

I met Amber's mother. I also worked at the funeral home and stood at Amber's grave several yrs after that. So I often would go to must stand there and be sad. There are no words to describe what this did to her Mom. I will always see Amber's grave, but know she will be embraced by the Lord forever. Pray for her family, and all the victims of violence. ❤️🙏
