p.s. I also coincidentally started implementing this technique into my practice a couple years ago and noticed a huge improvement. I haven't developed it to the level that Andy's at, but it's nice to know we had a similar approach because it's more evidence to me that it works.

I stumbled across these kinds of sirens one day and it's what allowed me to reach my high falsetto that I'd lost in my 20s and gave me hope that I wouldn't be stuck in a bass range for the rest of my life. Blew my mind. Try it ppl! Best thing I ever did.

The siren thing really helps to get comfortable with the head voice, Andy is amazing. Also what I learnt from an Italian opera singer on YT is when you sing high notes just like any other notes you don't try to reach "up" that's where to get all stuck but rather hit that high note in your head and just aim right at it

Very helpful video, about 6 months ago I had a pretty poor high voice and over this past 6 months by watching this channel and just general playing around with my voice I have “unlocked” my higher range and not to blow my own trumpet im sounding pretty good now, still room for improvement, there always is, but it’s definitely getting there so thank you. Also I have learned a great warm up that works for me is singing “loose it all - Sam Tompkins” and also singing (although most of the song isn’t high but certain parts are) “blind eyed (live version) ren/sam Tompkins”. I definitely recommend these songs for not only a general warm up because of the range of vocals but definitely for warming up that higher range

@ulfgarthebard89533 ай бұрын
Higher and lower pitched cartoon voices were really good for me to loosen up and get used to 'sounding different' from my speaking voice. It's also a ton of fun. I think the hardest part is I still don't always feel I'm putting more effort into high notes than I need to after I get a bit tired. Getting sirens to connect going up in pitch took a lot of work too for me, and they still break sometimes. Even though I'd say I'm more of a natural baritone (used to start having trouble around a D but would push to a G poorly) I've been able to sing some Helloween, The Darkness, and Greta Van Fleet decently. I think everyone should take time in their car in the morning to experiment. We all sing in the shower or car. By learning a little bit more about your voice, you can have even more enjoyment singing for fun. You don't need to desire to be a professional singer to want to improve your voice.

I remember going through this exact journey some years ago, and this made my voice so much more relaxed and smooth. The fact that I can sing for hours without strain today, and how much of a strain I actually put myself through in the past without even realizing, in order to sing higher notes... Nowadays I don't even try to sing anything like I did in the old days, honestly. It FEELS bad. And I honestly thought I was doing things by the book back then, but I'd still get some vocal fatigue from time to time, and a lot more inconsistency in what I could and couldn't sing.

Curious to say, but the conversational thing has ringed some bell in me more on the artistic crafting of oneself's vocal style, than on the pitch which it was originally intended to. I really think that "conversation" exercise might help with getting a natural singing for those (like me) who tend to be too rigid and think things like "i must respect this metric, i must take these notes".

Funny video. I do different. Dont know how but I can do: I listen to a higher word of a song and think to myself "lets try to go into that range!" And after a few tries... Voi la la! Soft, but its there! Next step is trying to stay in that range as long as I can and trying to push a bit and: most important thing is relaxing the hole body ... Good luck!
@therealmanuelbauer4 ай бұрын
I'm amazed by Andys vocalabilities and I wish I could scream at least a little like him. But one thing I noticed in this video especially is, that he is really tensing his throat and pushing his jaw forward when hitting higher notes. Doesnt this affect his voice? For me this has been a huge problem for many years and I had to and still kinda have to unlearn this everytime I sing in order to stay relaxed and not get tight in the throat. This to me is actually the hard part about using mixed voice. Was just wondering if he is aware of doing it and how he manages to not get tight in the throat when sunging like this.
@zip7534 ай бұрын
I don’t think it’s about tensing up, but more about shaping your vocal tract for better tone and resonance. I’m a beginner and I’ve recently started playing around with opening my mouth wider, and it has a lot of positive side effects - I feel like I have more room with the placement and more stability when trying to place the sound in the middle, which also helps to make a smoother change between high and low placement. It also means that I can push more air more confidently, which obviously creates bigger resistance from the vocal cords, but it’s not the same as the neck tension in the context of chest pulling. And the feeling is very different - one is tensing up and another one is projecting. At least in my beginner book 😁

I actually think I found my way to access mixed voice by imitating Gollum 😄I had been experimenting with the dying cat approach for quite some time, but it was pretty inconsistent. One day, however, I was fooling around with Teenage Dirtbag and went into a (clean) Gollum voice and suddenly hit those high notes without any effort whatsoever. I guess the thing with Gollum is that, if it sounds really bad and whiney, you're nailing it. Or at least I'd like to think that for me it was a way to abandon the idea of sounding 'good' in order to practice more freely. Anyhow, repeat after me: WE'RE LOOKING FOR BILBO BAGGINS PRECIOUS LOOKING FOR BILBO BAGGINS PRECIOUS BECAUSE FILTHY BAGGINS STOLE OUR PRECIOUS THE THIEF OOOOHHH 🤣🤣🤣

It’s less about volume and more about compressing air. Utilizing diaphragm and different resonance spots in your head. Let the mic do most the work. Also learning to stop trying to sound like the singer you’re covering. I mean you hit the notes and use proper dynamics but a huge breakthrough for singing is finding your tone. Being happy with your own tone.

yeah... you're right! It's neat to see other vocalists arrive at the exact same stuff in different ways and then be able to articulate it. It shows students the path to follow that would be otherwise less credible if it was just one person saying it. It's also cool when these collaborators show me something that I hadn't felt out or maybe was looking at something not quite right and they correct me... I learn something both ways!

Try looking into flute/flageolet/whistle register/M3 exercises. It'll take a long time to develop it, but lower range singers like Leo Maia, Ken Tamplin, and Kegan DeBoheme do a great job demonstrating what's possible when you develop that part of your voice in conjunction with your head voice/M2
@KevinFlowersJr4 ай бұрын
Oh yeah, and just to set expectations, expect it to sound like a very piercing pterodactyl noise. You won't be able to control the pitch at first, but you can practice bringing it down into your head voice/M2 register.
