It is tragic that some people were born without a sense of humor. Morecambe and Wise were not only unique, warm and funny as you said but they were also polite, they never offended people a talent sadly lost with todays comedians. However take heart! for as long as we remember them they will never be forgotten, true guienius like theirs is timeless and the world will never stop laughing God Bless the Golden age of british comedy!

Shows like Love Thy Neighbour and comedians like the late Bernard Manning and Jim Davidson were every bit as much a part of the 1970s as this was. That I think needs to be taken into account.

What pisses me off is that the BBC have all there footage and yet they don't release anything at all about them. They do these shows and yet I don't see anything from there whole shows from the time on UK Gold etc

The BBC are terribly selfish when it comes to old clips. They could easily release them on KZbin

What do you mean? Every Christmas repeats on BBC 2 for the last 30 years, specials of lost episodes returned, that brilliant biopic that was the brainchild of the late Victoria Wood, the radio show that pops up on 4 extra. At least three documentaries that I can think of in recent times. A retrospective at the BFI. The Eddie Braben docudrama with Stephen Thompkinson. You're probably the same sort person who complains that there are too many repeats on the BBC. Anything for a good whinge.

@hughjanus1840 Eric and Ernie have had a better time of it from the BBC than most, but the corporation can be remarkably parsimonious when it comes to their archive. There are countless comedies and dramas they appear to have zero interest in repeating and/or releasing on home media. As wonderful as Porridge, Dad's Army and Only Fools and Horses undoubtedly are, it wouldn't hurt to rest them for a bit and give us some Hancock, Steptoe and (what's left of) Not Only But Also, to name but a few.

For me Eric and Ernie were the greatest along side Tommy Cooper and the brilliant Eric Sykes. Eric and Ernie's singing in the rain routine was fantastic .For me it was comfort comedy I miss those great comic artists.
