If the steam comes in at 500K, transfers energy to the feed, raising its temperature to 408K, how does the saturated liquid water leave at 500K? Didn’t it transfer energy to the feed? Is it because when the steam condenses, energy is released? The enthalpy of vaporization that originally went into generating the steam accounts for the energy transfer?

yes, energy is released when the steam condenses.
