Had to end my adventure and return home asap. Took a ride on a Northerly to get in front of a Bermuda High.

Excellent work! Thank you for sharing. Great captin in a very well prepared boat. Agree with the AIS Owner of #38.

Great stuff. I sail hull #358, one of the few (4?) yawl rigs left. Mizzen and jib are great on long windy reaches. Used to spend too much time on dressing her up. Now it’s sailing before beauty…just the basics. Maybe I’ll do a video soon. From Sag Harbor to Block.

Thank you for your comment and I will be looking forward to seeing a hull #358 video. Fair winds

Really enjoying your videos. I had a Vanguard (hull 275) for 9 years in the San Francisco Bay.

I appreciate your comment and I enjoy making these videos, it helps fill some of the time during the passage (hull # 151)

Congrats on a nicely planned passage. I have the same boat (hull #214) and I would like to hear more about how you are set down below - galley, etc. I have been slowly upgrading my Vanguard to make it to the Bahamas when I retire (18 months). I have the twin bunk set up below with no quarter berths. The galley is right were you enter the cabin and I cook on omelette stations - no stove. Solid boat for sure. I am on a lake in SC and I need all the bits for ocean ventures. My boom furler works nicely, but I just added slab reefing for the main from the cockpit - easier for me when solo sailing. Genoa has a furler as well. I will follow along and I certainly appreciate you paving the way. I get a lot of criticism that my boat is too small to sail (from Charleston SC) to the Bahamas but I've seen plenty of sailors do it. Sail ON!

I like your plan and I have interior project videos uploaded to the Pearson Vanguard FB group. 3 things I wish I had done day 1. First, 33lb rocna anchor/65 ft 5/16 chain w 250ft 5/8 rode, manual winch. Second, auxiliary rudder wind vane. Third air-conditioning. In that order. Me not having a good anchor cost my insurance company lots of $. With out the WV solo sailing was Brutal and ac because I'm a landluber. I hope this helps.

I have the same boat, and I hope to be putting it in the water pretty soon. I hope we can maybe talk someday about some of the things that are endemic to the vessel

I know you're an experienced sailor and mean no disrespect....you were standing on deck with no safety line! You have too much confidence. You were one wrong step or one wave from watching your boat sail away without you. We never expect accidents to happen. But knowing the sea as you do I am shocked you weren't lashed to that boat. Please please sir, safety first. I love your channel and We all would hate it if it went black one day. Kind regards from 🇩🇪 Germany.

Thanks for sharing! I may be sailing the same route in the future. How is your third reef rigged? In boom or did you tie it in?
@Pearsonvanguard32sailing5 ай бұрын
I added a cheek block to the boom and a single aluminum jam cleat fwd. I use the mast winch to pull it. I install the 3rd sheet only when offshore. Normally the sail has only 2 reefs lines installed.

Welcome back. And why Bermuda?
@Pearsonvanguard32sailing6 ай бұрын
It was going to be Bermuda, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas and mainly just to put ocean miles on myself and the boat. A family illness cut it short

Nice crossing. Why do you run your traveler on the windward side when off the wind? Is that a peculiarity of the boat?
@Pearsonvanguard32sailing6 ай бұрын
Only when Running or on a Broad reach. The sheet lays hard on the life line if I don't. So I guess it maybe particular to some boats, mine for sure.
