It certainly seemed like a nice day, thanks for taking us along for the sail, and for the look around.

Thanks Jeff. It was pleasant although as it clouded up it almost got chilly.

Nice - thanks for sharing. My wife and I got to sail that same place on a Friendship Sloop two weeks ago.

Cool. Which one did you go out on - Alice E or Linda?

thank you for sharing your single-handed sailing a ketch . It looks like only one sail was raised to keep it simple . interesting plan .

I have the genoa and mizzen up. To simplify sailing the boat single handed so that I do not have to leave the cockpit underway I do not use the main.

Good vid! A nice day indeed. good winds and flat waters...I do exactly the same...work on the boat and then if conditions are decent I take my Polaris 43 out on most days for day sails. Using the staysail and main its fun, easy and refreshing! ...good on ya!

I am pleased that you enjoyed the video. I will try to include a map in future videos like this one so people have a better feel for where I am ailing. Thanks for watching.

Was good sailing wind this afternoon, too bad I was on a small power boat instead. About eight years ago my neighbor sold his homebuilt ferrocement schooner to someone up in Bar Harbor running day sails, not sure what they changed the name but I have been meaning to drive up and find her. Was always impressive seeing him in his 80's single hand her out around the bay.

I hope I am still sailing when I hit 80. I have a friend who is 87 and single hands his SW 30 almost every decent day. The wind was pretty good. I didn't push it but averages over 5 knots. Tomorrow I will be out on my powerboat. Thanks for watching my video.

how often do you need to have your boat bottom cleaned and who and how does it get done?
@todddunn94510 ай бұрын
hare in Maine it is a once a season thing that is done by the boat yard when the boat is hauled for the winter. When they haul the boat they pressure wash the hull before it goes into the shed for the winter. I put on new bottom paint in the Spring before launch, which keeps the bottom fine for the 5-6 month season. If you watch this video of my 2023 haulout you will see the condition of the bottom when the boat came out of the water after 5.5 months at the 5:41 mark. - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYOWhYJjnb6FfbM There is a diver who cleans bottoms at the marina, but he mostly does big powerboats that are getting ready to head south for the winter. They don't have much growth, but every little bit counts for a 2,000 mile run. I have never heard of him cleaning a sailboat bottom. We don't get much growth here because the water never gets above about 55F.

@@todddunn945 very interesting. only reason i asked is because when i was a teenager i had a job in the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, CA, cleaning boat bottoms. It was by far, to this day, the most fun job I've ever had. I'm not quite that adventurous anymore lol anyways, those boats got cleaned once a month and still had to get hauled out once a year to get repainted due to being scrubbed every month. not to mention zincs needing to be changed, though not monthly on those. different climates different growth i suppose.
@todddunn94510 ай бұрын
@@Solidcaulk Yes indeed that is a very different climate. Our season starts with water temperature in the low 40ss and the water warms to the mid 50s by the end of the summer. Pretty much all recreational boats get hauled out for the winter so the bottoms get cleaned and repainted annually. The cold water means much less growth. I am not as much of an adventurer as I was when I was young, but at least I am still getting out on the water now that I am on the wrong side of 70. I hope to do more sailing and sailing videos next summer since I will be completely recovered from knee replacement surgery that really slowed me down last summer.

@@todddunn945 Well i sure hope you continue uploading your adventures. I have been obsessed with sailing videos for the past 2 years and it is my dream to get a sailboat and sail around the world. i just relocated my family to Rhode Island and i live 5 minutes' walk from a marina in Narragansett Bay. Looking for a fixer upper 30(ish) foot sailboat or maybe a little bigger, to begin fixing it up as a side project and start doing small trips around the bay to get reacquainted with sailing. it's been 20 years since I've sailed. Anyways, I'm rambling. I followed your channel and I look forward to your future content!!!

@@Solidcaulk Thanks. I will do my best to take the camera when I go out next summer. Narragansett Bay is a great place to find a boat. I hope you find something perfect for your needs soon.

Tourist on board ! We call that a cattle boat out west……

It tends to be called a head boat here, but the idea is the same.
