The worst case scenario is you raise your step child and they resent you for stealing thier father away from them. Meanwhile you paid for thier education, fed them and emotionally invested in them. In the best possible case scenario, the step child (if they were extremely young when you met their mother) will look at you as their father, but they are not your children, you pay for them. And if you have your own biological children they might resent them too.
