Excellent review and stellar playing as always. If for no other reason than hearing someone say the same thing i've been saying for years.... I actually applauded when you said "as opposed to Vemuram who just blatantly copied the Timmy and named it a Jan Ray." This is objective fact. It's the exact same circuit, with no values changed, and knobs that turn different directions. People that claim it's better have never played them side by side, don't understand pedal circuits, or are trying to justify the markup for a straight clone. I'm interested in each of these pedals because he used beloved circuits as a starting point, but has objectively changed things and offered a more versatile take on each one.

I received my Skyline a few days ago and I am absolutely stunned. It sounds better than my original Tim, better than the MXR Timmy, and better than the mentioned Jan Ray. And while it is still less expensive (where I am) than the Vemuram pedal, it includes a pretty great boost that can be used as a second gain stage, or alone to e.g. clear up Fuzzes (positioned behind the Fuzz). The included and switchable buffer is obviously high quality - it does not affect my signal as e.g. the Bonafide buffer does. So, for me, that is really a 3-in-1 and much better value than the price would suggest.

8.06: for avoidance of doubt, UP is mid-boost, centre is low cut and down is full freq. The manual has them written in three rows in this order: Centre, up, down, which isn’t the most intuitive. Either that. or we have it differently on our piece of paper. I think you can hear the mid-boost in the up position in this video, which is why you don’t like it (nor do I). This is a fab pedal though - at low gain it’s one of the most “transparent” drives I’ve owned - just adds a nice hi-fi twinkle.

My choice would be he Skyline as well. But I actually like and use a JHS Bonsai Tube Screamer on the "JHS mod" setting set as a clean boost.
