Departing Wichita's Jabra Airport and picking my way over and through a rapidly intensifying line of thunderstorms. My "Plan A" gap in the line was quickly closing.

Nice job avoiding the potential bad weather. With thunderstorms in the area, I am sure you have to be very diligent in watching the weather radar. Another successful flight by JesseFlies! Love your videos expecially the RNAV approach into Aspen which was executed to perfection!

Fantastic view on pilot planning with those major storms around. Very beautiful to look at but you don’t want to be anywhere near them! It shows that with the single pilot certified jets, the work load can creep up on you and if your not paying attention you could “fall behind” the aircraft, especially when focusing on avoiding the weather. Great seeing you stay on top of the situation.

Another cool video, to answer your question about not being given a clearance void time you could be right about being able to contact you via the radios but also I want to guess that because he gave you and assigned heading of 270 he could've been using that as divergence separation which is allowed in some instances.

JF, nice flying and great commentary. That weather radar is a thing of beauty. Do you have to set the gain or does it default to auto calibrate or something? Nice to see more lite jet videos with new pilots and brands of aircraft. You,re headed for the aviation Oscars. Guess I should say along with P1D since he doesn't miss much.
@monkeyboy8424

An excellent demonstration on how pilots should NOT rely on XM wx to deviate around cb's. Tilt and range are your best real time wx radar tools. Adjust the gain only in areas of monsoon type conditions.
@IllFlyIt
@IllFlyIt 2 жыл бұрын
Never relied on XM but used it in the decision making process. How many hours in the Phenom do you have? Have you flown behind the low powered weather radar they have installed? The gain is the most beneficial setting because auto or calibrated sucks. You’re only seeing 1/3 of the picture and maybe 50NM ahead. Adjusting gain only in monsoon conditions? What about at high altitude where the returns aren’t showing up because it’s frozen? Gain is your friend, friend.

@@IllFlyIt just retired after 38 years, started before color, using the black and white (green) radar.,777,744,767,757,727,737,L1011,DC8, typed. In Asia monsoons, gain is reduced to paint only the heavy stuff. At altitude, tilt down to paint the water, and even if you top it, go around the big stuff. Use a long range and tilt to paint ground returns at the top of the screen, any cell will 'walk' back to you - which is basically what you did. Look at AF447, they made the mistake of overlying a huge line, LH had previously deviated. Safe flying.

Question about your deviations-somewhere between your turn to 190 and that waypoint in your plan you were trying to get to (Faunt, vaunt, something like that) I think you got a clearance to deviate left and right as needed. If I am correct, how far left and right can you deviate in a clearance like that, i.e. is there a limit of like 30 degrees each way for example?
@IllFlyIt
@IllFlyIt 6 жыл бұрын
There isn’t a limit on how far you’d be allowed to deviate with that clearance. If it was going to be 30° or more I’d advise ATC just to keep them aware. They’ll amend your deviation if traffic separation becomes an issue.
