Recently had to adjust the chain on the S3R and decided to show how easy it is to do it. Especially for those that are unsure how to do it.

The torque settings for the clamp bolt on the 2016 model is 55 Nm according to the Triumph manual.

Have somebody sit on your bike that is close to your body weight with the bike on the ground. Recheck the chain tension. Promise you it will be tight as a banjo string ! You simply cannot tension a Speed Triple chain using your process !
@sFde463 жыл бұрын
service manual says: 1. Place the motorcycle on a level surface and hold it in an upright position with no additional weight on it. 2. Rotate the rear wheel to find the position where the chain has least slack. Measure the chain's vertical movement, mid-way between sprockets. 3. If correct, the vertical movement of the drive chain midway between the sprockets should be 21 -30 mm.

I recently bought a Speed Triple .I decided to clean the chain by slackening it and lifting it off the rear sprocket so I could lay the bottom run in a tray of cleaning fluid.Worked a treat.A small movement of the C spanner creates a large effect on chain tightness when tightening or loosening.

Checks slack and says "that's probably good for me" tells me you have little knowledge of Triumph's 955/1050 triples with the SSSA. Run your chain as tight as this video shows and you'll destroy your output shaft bearing pretty quickly especially on the up to 2011 models. The 2011 and on models can be run a poofteenth tighter but (contrary to the owners manuals) best to aim for minimum 40mm up/down unless you set it with someone sitting on it so the swingarm is horizontal and the chain at full extension.
@roythearcher7 жыл бұрын
You need a torque wrench to tighten the rear pinch bolt to the correct torque setting. Too loose, and your chain tension wont stay where you want. Too tight, and you risk damaging or even destroying your swing arm!

I have bought 3 different tools to do this but I can only loosen the chain and can not tighten it .I gave up after 3 hrs trying so my only option now is take it back to my local dealer every time it needs adjusting. 2018 1050r .

Might want to mention the what the slack should be like 35-40mm and what the torque on the bolt should be like 40 ft lbs. (these are just examples not actual specs)

Hola! Acabo de hacerlo y parece que ya quedó lista! Pero... Tengo mis dudas, veo un poco cerca la cadena y la llanta. ¿Es solo el ajuste de apretar o lleva alineación?
@rogerthedodger57882 жыл бұрын
What toolkit that comes with the bike? Certainly not under the seat which has a space for a pack if cigarettes. Not that I smoke.
@derekderek2570 Жыл бұрын
🫣🫣🫣 nooooooooo!!!!! If you over spec the torque requirements on that pinch bolt you’re going to seize the actuator (that sprocket thingy the C-Spanner connects to) but don’t worry, if you do that it’s a pretty easy fix all you need to to is completely rebuild the backend of the motorcycle with a whole new swing arm. SO DONT OVER TIGHTEN IT

Excellent, couldn't have figured this out without your vid. BUT! I'm using an Abba stand which supports the bike on the swing arm pivot, this presumably takes the load off the suspension. How much difference is this likely to make?

What type of paddock stand do you use for rear wheel removal? I’m picking one up next week and its my first bike with a single sided swingarm
@2WheeledMenace6 жыл бұрын
Knightlore10 I just use a regular pit bull rear stand. I bought the spools that run through the rear to use it. Whenever the tire has to come off, I usually take it to my local shop.

@2WheeledMenace6 жыл бұрын
GabesaNinja I would think it could be possible but since the whole rear tire moves with it, i would advise against it
@PremierNZ-qb5zd3 жыл бұрын
It is absolutely essential the chain adjustment is done with the bike on the side stand otherwise the chain will be far too tight when the suspension is compressed. Your method will pretty much ensure damage to the countershaft bearing or crack the crank case around the bearing housing.
