I agree with teaching a man to fish. My husband has a lot of ex-Amish customers. He has taught most of them minor repairs. They come to him for all of their major repairs. Plus we’ve gained so many more customers from referrals. It didn’t happen overnight. We are at point of having to much work. I was an OTR driver, now I’m a right hand to my husband’s left hand mechanic work. My small hands work great in the area’s he can’t get to. Great things will happen for you, patience. ☺️

Damn I had a girl break my heart and caused me to close up shop and explore the world. He’s lucky to have you. Even tho I easily made more as a mechanic after closing my repair shop to follow my female partners career. She ended up cheating on me with a coworker. The fact you work together is a good sign you’ll last together. Keep it up.

I know it’s a bit of an adjustment going from a shop to fieldwork because it’s such a rarity to have equipment that’s clean right off hand, but I always have my field tax pressure wash stuff for the mechanics. Also, I also believe that you are correct in teaching the owner operator about the overhead, and even telling him what tools he can buy off of Amazon that are aftermarket to do it is a big help and from experience. I know the word-of-mouth will get around of what kind of caliper person you are and that usually translates to big dollars.

Had an annoying one this week. Laying under a D6 w/ a C9.3 cleaning off oil pan gasket and see a red fluid hanging off of one of the cam lobes. First thought was a head/head gasket, but I got a long screwdriver and was able to get some of the fluid and found out it was fuel. Popped the valve cover and the #3 had fuel coming out of the top of it. Oil samples said nothing about fuel dilution so I must've caught it just in time. I'm not a fan of the quill tubes. Luckily I was able to sneak them out while using a ratchet strap to hold the wiring harness out of the way.

I have a KCB C13 and have thought about a single turbo conversion. I was hoping you'd have some more info and opinions on the conversation! I read mixed stuff. Most report much better mileage, cooler egt and coolant temps, and under hood temps. But I've also heard the power lags, or the turbo lags compared to the compound turbos. PDI makes a kit and also Momentum Worx. Maybe others. You need programming to make it all work. I've talked to PDI and their programming leaves the IVAs in tact. I've also heard different things about deleting the IVAs, some say you have to change the Pistons to lower the compression, some say it's fine. I would love to hear your thoughts, since You're so familiar with the C13s! I'm sure you would say to leave it as it was designed, but I would love to get better MPGs and lower temps!
