Single turbo GTO

I still have this car and the turbo kit on it. It’s been driven quite ALOT. I can’t say I’ve had much problems except a blown flex joint on the crossover pipe. I eliminated that flex and never had an issue again. I checked out on wastegate at first and the cheapo wastegate failed in less than a year. I put a Tial on it and never looked back. Manifold has never cracked. With the stock motor and 10 psi of boost it ran 11.10 at 128mph. It’s got a built motor and at 20+ psi now. Haven’t run it yet.

Damn... 5 years ago. Getting ready to dig into my 5.7. I have a lifter tick and as we all know, that means the heads are coming off, so basically I'll have a short block sitting in mounts. Might as well let her breath a bit better. Seems you have a very capable combo and I was hoping to see some "tried and true" setups.

Man I love it too! It don’t get old. I tell you, sounds much better than the whine is a screw type blower. To me they sound like the power steering is going out! Lol. Now it’s time for me to turn it up to about 8-10psi and hit the drag strip and see if I can get a 10 second slip

GTOwned I actually have this setup sold. My buddy made me a nice offer on it. So plans are to rebuild the whole thing even better. I learned a lot building this. And with the money profited, I’m going to upgrade the turbo to a ceramic ball bearing, billet wheel one. I’m also going to put an eboost2. My buddy saw this and rode in in one time and that’s all it took. He had to have it. He couldn’t find a kit that retained ac. I’m not sure why, this way I did it retains ac no problem. There wasn’t much modification I had to do tonthe car and the only cutting I did was where air filter tube from the turbo inlet is. I wanted to draw air from outside the engine compartment. My theory is, why draw in hot air and have to cool it down even more. This actually helped me to be able to run a much smaller intercooler and not have to cut anything else to mount it.

crazysvt03 the crossover goes down and under the car. It’s routed along the steering rack with heat shielding on the rack. It comes in the back side of the driver log manifold. Nothing hot goes near the ac. The steering Cooler had to be deleted. The intercooler pipe goes around the radiator support and comes up by the battery. I did have to cut one hole however. Where the air filter would normally go, that triangle area is cut out. I have the air filter grabbing cool air outside the engine compartment and the charge pipe from the compressor to the intercooler goes through that hole.

crazysvt03 I went through a lot of effort to make sure I have no problems. So far so good. I was thinking about doing a more detailed video on it. It just takes alot of time to edit and all that.

@@kingstonstar17 I had his car in my shop. I didn’t buikd a jog and the 06 has a different radiator setup making it far more difficult to run the intercooler piping. Stuff has to be modified and rerouted so it would be impossible for me to build a kit and send it to someone. I’d have to have the car. And his kit was the first and the last that I’m willing to do on the 05-06. Way too much work. My advice is get a torque storm blower. Much easier. Not as much power though unfortunately

Man! Im trying to do the same thing on my gto right now. I saved up all the money needed, now I need to order the parts. What confuses me is the turbo manifolds. I want to keep ac and power steering. What kind of manifolds did you use?

Jav fernandez I used a shorty manifold on the passenger side. I only used that because it was already on the car. The stock manifold on the passenger side will work fine. The pipe wraps around from the passenger side, under the car, in between the engine and trans, then comes up and hooks into the rear of the log manifold I built. You can see the log manifold in the picture at the end. You see the turn down to the rear (on your right in the pic) that’s where the crossover pipe comes into. Kfx Guy so will the car have a single exhaust coming out once the crossover connects to the log?

Jav fernandez it comes out of the turbo as a single 3”. Then under the car about in the middle right past the trans, it y’s into a dual 2.5” exhaust. Which I plan on changing soon to a single 3”. I have an 04 so my exhaust exits on one side so there’s no point in all the extra weight. I’m building another setup like this for a guy with an 06 and I’m just going to Y it into his dual exhaust.

Kfx Guy Kfx Guy yeah, I currently have long tube headers connecting to an x pipe with two flow masters and dual exits. 06 rear bumper. Since I have long tubes I guess I’ll have to get a different passenger side manifold too huh? What style manifold will work best on the passenger side to cross over?
