Sinister Techniques! - A Mono Poison Guide

In this video we'll be looking over one of the original 15 types, Poison. Poison is often associated with villainous teams and sinister techniques to slowly KO your opponent. In this video we're going to look at how the masters of status conditions have made an impact on the series and what notable Pokemon you may want to run on a mono poison team.

Great video! I had no idea about how a lot of these poison mons are used in competitive tbh, so it was very informative! Makes me wanna create a poison monotype team on showdown 👀 May I give a suggestion? Perhaps add some kind of graphic (like a pokemon summary screen) for when you show the pokemon? Plain black bg can get boring to look at quickly 😅

If I was a gym leader I would be a poison type gym leader in the Galar region, my team would be Toxapex, Nidoking, Crobat, Galarian Weezing, Drapion, and gmax Garbodor. I would give the Tm Venoshock and the Sludge badge to the winner. Most of my team will use venoshock in their moveset.

That sounds a really good team! And the idea of using venoshock is very cool, especially paired with a toxic spikes user.

As well as mirror. Hitting a Toxapex with Toxic status slows its walling fairly quick, then it's just rinse and repeat on Substitute and Protect.

do you think tentacruel with the rain ability would work good with toxicroak with dry skin?

Yeah I think it can work, especially in mono poison challenge runs in game. The passive recovery paired with black sludge is really nice while also boosting water moves. As well as that weakening fire damage is nice for the grass poison types like Venusaur and Amoongus or even your bug posion types on the team. I used to experiment with rain dance poison teams back in gen 6 and they were quite fun.

Yeah for sure in casual competitive it sounds like it could work nice! It might be harder to get to work at too level competitive but I would say there's no harm in experimenting with new strats because you could find something that people don't run and often they can be very useful.

Ever since I saw the Poison Gym outfit in SS, I've wanted to run mono Poison. Any suggestions on sets for Tentacruel and Dragalge? I think right now I'm thinking a fast bulky Scald/Spinner for Tentacruel but am lost on the other sets. For Dragalge I'm considering Specs but given its low Speed and lack of Trick Room support it seems pretty lackluster. But getting Flip Turn seems like a potentially useful addition.

I think a fast bulky sweeper works well for Tenta. I think acid spray is also a pretty good tool for it as it threatens walls by lowering the SpD 2 stages which makes your scalds all the more powerful. As for a last move depends on what you struggle with. Ice beam and Dazzling gleam is nice for dragons especially Hyrdreigon who can be tricky to take down. Or giga drain if you struggle with the likes of Seismotoad on ground teams. As for Dragalagae if you're going to use it, can be a nice T-spikes setter if you don't have any others also having access to nice support in scald or strong stab in Draco and Sludge bomb. Specs can also be used to absolutely blow a hole in your enemy team with an adaptability Draco. But if you want more bulk on the team and a nice reists to fire elec and water assault vest could work to make it's SpD massively high, and as you pointed out flip turn is cool tech to come in and wall a SpA and then flip turn out on the swap to keep up momentum.

@@KingKrabz Awesome suggestions, I'll have to try them out. Man I hope Nihilego gets Meteor Beam because I could see it becoming a monstrous late game sweeper with that, Power Herb, and Beast Boost.

That would be so good, the +1SpA and +1Spe from the KO would he such a good late game sweeper and won't choice lock you into a single move.
