@@watchreviews4k my only, very small , gripe was the pressed/ folded clasp , but who cares it's going to get beaten around - it is a tool watch after all.

I am literally buying one of these today , I had already decided on that prior to your review. ( having spent a couple of days of homework on it ) Not only do I love the watch , but I think your review style is magnificent. Thx. Sub.

Took a while to decide between the 556A and 104. In the end I went for the 104 and felt totally underwhelmed with it. Perhaps it’s a grower I thought like the Seiko Sarb035. Nope, hated it so I sold it. 2 years and a few watches later I have the 556A and I’m delighted with it.

I think the reason there's only 3 microadjustments in the clasp is because of the fitment of the divers extension.

Thanks for this excellent review, John. I love the hex screws on the bracelet of this beautiful piece… Sinn does make some outstanding watches. Thanks for sharing. Regards

I have an earlier 556i with ETA; I think the hands (proportions) work much better on the A than i ( I understand that Helmut Sinn was a pilot, and the hands are very instrument inspired). Otherwise a great wearing watch of real quality that more than delivers on its promise.

This is a pleasent surprise. A friend of mine recently bought two German watches one being a Zeppelin-Chrono, don't remember the other sadly. Both we're a bit of a letdown with the chronocomplication not working properly after less than a year and the other being shipped with mineral at a pricepoint of 500-600€. He scratched the crystal up rather badly in an accident. They honestly made me doubt our "Made in Germany" brand, very glad to see such a solid watch from another manufacturer, i might even get one for my bachelors degree. Will you ever look into Raymond Weil btw.? I got one myself and am very happy with it.

It’s always been my understanding that Sinn uses the top grade sw200-1. Has that changed, or is one us mistaken?
@watchreviews4k3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the SW200-1 is top grade. Apologies for the error. Regards, #WR4K

I am selling my Sinn 556A. Nice watch but I realise I have too many black dial watches in my collection. Must say though, it's got to be one of the most accurate watched I have owned.

I get cringey at phrases like "Within COSC specifications when fully wound." COSC requires having that accuracy while diving 24 hours into the power reserve in addition to various positions and temperature tests. That said, all my sw200 watches do pretty well!

COSC certification is still rather superficial relative to other protocols followed. That said, I’ve got several watches with the SW200 regulated well within spec, barely more than a second per day, on wrist or off, day in, day out for extended periods of time. I wouldn’t pay extra for a watch simply because it’s COSC certified at this point. There’s too many well regulated options for less.

The only reason I am holding back is because of the AR on the top . It's. A shame . I do want one .

No real point covering up the serial number on the warranty-card when you show it at length on the case-back... ;) The one criticism I have of this and other Sinns is the bracelet. The relative bulkiness of it is probably more a matter of personal taste, but the lack of half-links and the rather primitive clasp are a bit disappointing at this price-point. I'd also like to see a bit more taper on their bracelets. The head of the watch is so tool-y and no-nonsense that a 20mm to 16m taper would add a bit of sophistication. When I bought my CW C63 Auto, this very Sinn was the other watch I had on my wish-list. It mainly lost out due to its higher price and inferior, more agricultural looking clasp. It (along with some other Sinn models) is still on my list though - I really like the brand.
