I saw Howard live with Light the Torch a couple years back, and its funny, cause he flexes his screams so much more live. Dude was throwing every technique in the book out there during songs that dont even have screams on their album versions lol.

This is what I love about them live; so many more wild screams that I honestly think are some of the best part of his range. Hearing some of his live sets got me hooked and seeing them live was unreal, his vocals are unbeatable.

My girl says I sing with a lot of ‘chin,’ and that is definitely how Howard is doing it too. It’s all power, and Howard adds a bit of warmth to his voice to give that voice even more power. He is literally next level.

I find with Howard, that his screams/growls always have this sort of wind-up to them, like he's not just dropping into it, more like he's unleashing it so-to-speak. The first syllables are typically stretched. It's the perfect compliment to the way he belts out his choruses. It never sounds like he's not giving his all, and that's why he's so revered, I reckon.

I'm not a teacher but it sounds to me like they were either using a whistle fry scream or perhaps pitch screaming in whistle register, assuming that's possible. I only checked that scream out so I don't know for sure, but it might be possible that they're upper soprano range or even mezzo-soprano, and utilizing their upper range in conjunction with pitched screaming. I lean more towards the pitched screaming in whistle theory, but who knows?

I always loved Howard in KSE - as I have been late to them (always late to things just like you ;D) and have only started listening to them when they were already pretty popular here in Germany - just as much as I do love Jesse being back with them. Never understood why people think they need to pit both against each other- they're both unique and awesome singers! That said, I always felt it rewarding to keep up with all the other stuff both do outside of KSE, like with Howard in Light the Torch and Devil you know and Jesse in Times of Grace, the side project he's in with Adam D. I'm almost sure you'd enjoy some of that stuff as well :)
