In this video I will review The Glenlivet 12 and let you know if I will sip on it until the bottle is gone and buy it again or if I will skip buying it once the bottle is gone and replace it with something else.

Glenlivet 12 has been a bottle I have had for over 50 years. It's a safe choice for special occasions where I have seen it on tables at weddings and special receptions. Of course, the price is no longer under 10 bucks a long time ago, and it's usually over 40 now. It's an easy sipper people use when at the dinner table and not so much when sitting around to drink something neat.

Oh baby !!! As a novice scotch drinker - one scotch I know I can always safely order is Glenlivet 12. Glad to see the review on it. And I think the fact that the finish is typically short on this, makes it a good beginner scotch ! Cheers.

Like I said in the video I think this is a good beginner scotch and depending on your palate you might out grow the profile, but enjoy it while you do. Nothing wrong with sticking with what you like! Drink what you want, when you want, and how you want. No judgments. Cheers.

Yes! Summer drink. My wife and I vacationed on Scotland for three weeks last summer, Glenlivet was a stop on whiskey day, entry level, yes, but wife enjoyed it, I enjoyed it, she could taste fruit and sweet, just so similar to what you two said. I sent home a lot of scotch, and the 12 is in there w 32 year old and so many others. Keep having fun 😊

Exactly my sentiments..!!! 👍🥃 Glenlivet 12 is one of the single malts I started my journey with. It's still in my cabinet for "new-to-whisky" friends. The 12 First Fill and Illicit Still are the next steps. I've heard that sisters make the best friends in the world... Seems to be true for the two of you.

Thanks Lorenz. We have always been very close to one another so this was a natural fit to the channel. We come from a very close nit family and I would guess any one of my siblings would fit right in along side of me, but Mary-Bridget is the one that took the leap first and it's working. My brother Michael will taste the whiskey every now and then, but he much prefers beer over whiskey. To him whiskey is not refreshing. He is not a big drinker so if and when he does drink he has always said he would rather enjoy the experience of taking a mouth full of beer rather then a little sip of whiskey. I completely understand where he is coming from. Cheers.

Well done Peter! I love the Sip It or Skip It series! This would be a skip for me. I like the Deanston 12 for the purpose of introducing someone to scotch but it’s still great for a seasoned whisky enthusiast.

The Glenlivet 12 is a terrific scotch no matter if a beginner or experienced. I have enjoyed the Glenlivet 12 for decades. Agree with winter and peat as winter is for Octomore

I'm happy this one came up when it did. If you are going to have a beginner 40% ABV whiskey on the shelf you could do a lot worse then this one. And it's not so bad to revisit after you have been in the whiskey world for a while. It's a good one to have. Cheers.

This one is difficult for me. There is a certain nostalgia I have for Glenlivet. I imagine that many of us had Glenlivet as an entry to Single Malt. I was gifted a bottle during the holidays. Just didn't align with my current preferences. Also, prices have gone up a bit. I am seeing it for mid or high $40s.

Step up the proof and go with the Illicit Still, but it might just be the overall profile that does not sit right with you. How about the Glenfiddich?

@whiskeyisajourney - I haven't had illicit still; sounds like I should give it a shot. I recall enjoying Glenfiddich more, but truth be told, I haven't had Glenfiddich in 20 years. I found that I liked both Glanmorangie and Glenfarclas.

Along the same line I would go with The Glenlivet 12 Illicit Still. You get a bump in ABV to 48% and you still get that barley sweetness with more complexity without losing the fruitiness.

I think they are about the same, but you get a bump in the ABV to 48%. Good malt sweetness. I still get pineapple and apple with some vanilla. Over all it's just elevated a little more.
