In this video I will review Tomatin 18 single malt scotch whisky and let you know if I will keep sipping on the bottle until it's gone and replace it or once the bottle is gone I will skip buying it and move on to something else.

I was initially hesitant to buy this, but a few reveiws made me take a chance on it. I'm glad I did, this is a fantastic 18 year old dram, a bargain at the $109 I paid for it. Cheers!

It's nice to hear you took a chance on it and are enjoying it! $109 is a great price as well. Cheers!

Definitely one of my favorites. Price/Quality ratio is pretty good with this Tomatin 18.

If you like sherry this is a bottle for you. But in Canada it will probably be something like $1000. Just joking, but if you have seen it in your area I'd like to know what it's going for. Cheers!

@@whiskeyisajourney Joel checked and is ordering the Tomatin 18 from Alberta - always cheaper and AB doesn't have a provincial sales tax - nice!! It's $180 before tax. Not bad. I do love a good sherry cask scotch! Delicious! Bourbon and peat are my jams right now but I am always up for a delicious dram of a sherry cask single malt!! Hope you have some good plans for the weekend Peter!! 🙂

@@christinecamley I'm heading into my fall break so I'll have a week off. No plans yet still getting over being sick for 3 weeks. I had to push my hernia surgery off until November 21.
@christinecamley4 ай бұрын
@@whiskeyisajourney Oh no! I’m so sorry Peter. That’s a long time to be unwell. I hope the surgery goes very well. Hernias are awful. You will feel a lot better! I have several close people around me with awful cases of COVID- the new variants are both thought to be worse than usual - so I am being super careful. I have had it twice - once at the beginning of the pandemic - and I was in hospital for 3 weeks needing oxygen support. I have asthma. So masking is paramount and I hope the updated vaccine is available soon. I might go to the U.S. to get a vaccine more quickly. Long COVID becomes more of a risk the more someone experiences COVID. That is not something I ever want. Stay well! I’d mask when in hospital in November. No one is anymore. Much care!!

Very heavy on the Sherry, but it's pretty good and it grows on you, here in NC it goes for $109.00 but I got mine on sale for $89.00 not sure if I would replace it at full price though.

I was a little concerned about the bitterness, but the more I sipped it the less I noticed it. I'll need to pay attention to that going forward.

Nice vid Peter! I picked up a bottle of this in tucson last year at TW on clearance for $84.99. An absolute steal at that price. Still see them around Az for around $120…that’s been a slight push but still worth a buy at that price.

I was really happy with the price I paid. I like $84 more, but still happy. Cheers!

Tobermory (unpeated) and Ledaig (peated) belong together, to my mind. I do not know whether Tomatin has a peated version.

Isn’t t tamdhu 15 in sherry casks for 15 years? And isn’t Tomatin in ex bourbon casks then matured 3 years in FF oloroso?
@whiskeyisajourney25 күн бұрын
This is from a Dramface article Per Ben’s (Whisky Geek) tour at the distillery sometime in the early 2020s, Graham Eunson states that while the label might state 18 years, the majority of the whisky is much older, with an average age of around 23 years. Now for some confusion: Tomatin website states “matured in traditional oak casks and first-fill Oloroso Sherry butts”. Interwebs states “15 years in ex-bourbon hoggies, followed by a minimum of 3 years in Oloroso sherry casks”. Graham Eunson is on record (per Whisky Geek’s video) that “at least 90% of the whisky has been finished in sherry or fully matured in sherry, with a combination of Oloroso sherry and a small amount of Pedro Ximenez sherry”. So if we read between the lines and squint hard enough, we might be able to estimate that 80-85% of the whisky is a 3-8 year “finish”, around 5% of the whisky is fully matured in sherry, and the remaining balance (~10%) is 3-8 year old refill sherry “finish”.

@ Thank you, I’m going to grab one at $86.99, today. However, what’s interesting is that the label on the 18 is different, it subsumes about 2/3 of front of bottle. Is it older, or newer, different?
@whiskeyisajourney25 күн бұрын
@@johnnyjustice9988 I'm not sure if it's older or newer. I think you can tell if they have laser code on the bottle. Maybe it will distinguish the batches and year
