Investment in mutual funds is one of the most effective ways to create wealth in the long term but there are things that you must know before you jump in blindly. There are a number of expenses attached to your fund investment such as advertising expense, distributor fee, commission, and all these sum up your expense ratio. This can never go higher than 2.5% per annum in case of equity mutual funds and 2.25% per annum in case of debt mutual funds.
These limits are set by the stock exchange watchdog, SEBI. There are mutual funds that have an expense ratio of 2% or higher which can cost you lakhs of rupees in the long term. Combine this loss with inflation, and tax, and you find yourself with just money, not necessarily wealth. So watch this financial advice properly and understand what is expense ratio, how to pick mutual funds with a lower expense ratio and how much money you can save (or potentially earn).

Suppose I'm investing for 1 year and have checked a mutual fund company Taking one time investment as 5K and expected return is 7720 Taking sip 500 per month resulting in 6000 year with return of 7730 expected ! So I've already paid 1000 more so if somehow I've gained more units in sip I'm already in a loss of 1000 , moreover expected outcome is also low !

I only do lump-sum, this helped me 60% return during current rally but my sip friends are around 10%return as they stopped sip during crash. This is how market work . I do aggressive investing when I see nifty below 19pe or below 2.0 price to book value. Many Mutual fund investment advisers avoid to talk about the risk of lumpsum investment. I was one of the victims, in 2017 invested in midcap and small cap funds until 2020 I saw only capital erosion. I did this only Because of one reason that My advisor recommended to invest lumpsom when the market was in its high. I was the looser. But you have given the right suggestion. My sincere appreciations.

Rather than keeping your lump sum in bank, buy liquid fund/debt fund of that Same mutual fund and transfer sips from that fund to the desired fund. All mutual funds allow that. So in the process minimum return you will get ,will be of liquid fund/debt fund on your lump sum amount.

One Query on Open ended & close ended SIP: On part of comparison of open ended SIP and close ended SIP, say for example if I have started a close ended X type of SIP on 1 Jan 2018 for 5 years so it will mature automatically on 1 Jan 2023. Second case, I have started an open ended same X type of SIP on 1 Jan 2018 & I closed from my side as per my wish on 1 Jan 2023. So is there any return difference between open ended & close ended SIPs in this case specially when the tenure was same??

you missed to mention one drawback of SIP. at the end of the year when you are calculating the final return value, note that there is exit load of 1% if you redeem unit before 1 year from the invested date. Also, small term capital gain tax of 15% will be applied if you wish to redeem all the units at the end of the year.

@Manu-tf9cu
@Manu-tf9cu 2 жыл бұрын
@@aileen8492 Because you invest SIPS one after the other in smaller amounts compared to one big lumpsum amount. Sure, they are good for averaging market fluctuations, but in longer periods lumpsum investment in good funds will give better returns. For example, if you invest 60k in Jan 2021 and observe its profit in Jan 2022, it will be larger than what you would get through an SIP of 5k each month in same period (same amount of 60k invested as 12 5k SIPs). This is because only one SIP (Jan) has completed 12 months of invested growth, the next one only 11 months, then next one 10 months, so on and so forth with the December one having completed just one month of growth. In contrast, the 60k lumpsum has had a full year to reap the benefits. In my personal case, a lumpsum of 10 lakhs in 2017 in a pretty average fund has given close to 18 lakhs till Jan this year. I hope this clears your doubt.
@Manu-tf9cu
@Manu-tf9cu 2 жыл бұрын
Just as market fluctuations average out, your prospective returns too average out when you invest in SIPs. So that's one good factor to keep in mind. The trick to using lumpsum investments to your advantage is to make sure you are not investing in in the fund when the NAV is at an all-time high. Or make sure the fund will grow reasonably well over the next 3 to 5 years even if you are putting the money in at a high NAV. :)

Absolutely not Lumsum gives high returns as compared to SIP Lumsum should be considered for short term financial support SIP is beneficial for long term 15 to 20 years. Lumpsum can be good deal if u are buying new bike or new car in a span of time. For eg. Invest in lumsum in desired mutual for couple of years and when u check ur principle amount it's almost more than half. This is good way to buy expensive things. It's my opinion Do your own research

For elss though I prefer lump sum only. 1. say for 3 years lockin, one would have to wait 6 years to see the whole amount withdrawal. Although being invested for longer duration is better but it’s certainly a drawback. 2. You would not be committed in investing in the same mutual fund every year. Depending on expense ratio , performance etc you can choose which elss fund to invest every year.

@@architkapoor2503 in case of monthly sip for 3 years . The last sip you do would be end of 3 rd year and would be withdrawal at end of 6th year

@@manoharsingh6050 Right. But that doesn't means that the first SIP that you did is locked for 6 years. The first monthly SIP that you made is withdrawable, and actually re-investable after 3 years/36 months. Essentially, every purchase transaction is locked for 3 years only.

Ours is a bullish market and SIPs for a longer period of time will give you very less returns. In lump sump, even if you buy at an average price, after a five years of period you will get good amount of returns provided you in a good ELSS mutual fund at once. Just check all the mutual funds in the last 5-6 years, NAVs of all of then rose steadily, except few like Nippon India etc. So for a long term wise decision is to invest lump sump. SIPs will give poor return for a longer period of time in a bullish market as your average cost price will keep on rising YoY.

By investing in SIP, are we not losing the returns. For example a unit bought in the first month will have accumulated some returns by the end of the 12th month, compared to units bought in the 12th month. I am a beginner, can someone please clarify ??
@Manu-tf9cu
@Manu-tf9cu 2 жыл бұрын
Yup. You are right. While SIPs average out market fluctuations, it also averages out your returns, because your first SIP would have remained invested for a much longer period than your last invested one. On the other hand, if you are able to do lumpsum investment at a low NAV of the mutual fund, or if you are sure that your fund will reasonably grow in the long term of say three to five years, then you will get better returns with a lumpsum

Great video but we can increase our earnings by investing on last days of month instead of start of month. There will be difference between both 1 to 1.5 percent.

Investment isn't done for next day return or return after 1 year. No matter what you do, you are not going to get the most % of return any MF or stock have generated. Be it lump sum or SIP. If you do it for atleast 3-5 years. You are going to get decent returns.

This method does not apply on Equity investment. Investing lumpsum amount earliest on equity will have more probability that your money will grow better than SIP.
