A minor point Andrew: when cutting wings it is best to start at the leading edge to minimise wire lag in the more curved area of the wing. As the cut progresses wire lag becomes more pronounced and this can have a worse effect at the more curved part of the wing ie the leading edge.

hi andrew i love that you have your technique down to such a fine production line for such a variety of aircraft; yet another great video ! my only hint is using a small phillips head screwdriver dragged at an angle to encourage servo wires and the like into the slots you made for them - automagically centres them and keeps them from twisting hope that's useful - a minor repayment for all the "borrowing" of your ideas i will do once i get into foam cutting :)

This foam looks similar to foam we have here in the states, known as pink insulation foam, or pink panther foam. Extremely messy to work with. I like your build. Good to know I am not the only one unable to recover from an occasional stall with a wing. They are just so COG picky. Thanks for the video again.

Nice one Andrew....pleased to see you having some FPV fun again...Concerned and surprised by the ease it stalled and then entered a vicious unrecoverable spin though, a shame....I have a Skywalker x6 to build now, and I have seen more than one of them crash and burn in the same manner...:(
@AndrewNewton9 жыл бұрын
+EnglishTurbines It's interesting, I have not stalled like that since. Must have been the windy day and me not flying it smoothly. This close in, shooting gaps style FPV is more fun.
@EnglishTurbines9 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Newton I just watched it again, it's a bit strange, a pretty high speed stall wasn't it?...Keep posting for us, its still blowing a Gale here...non stop wind and rain...:(
@AndrewNewton9 жыл бұрын
+EnglishTurbines Just had a closer look myself. Inverted, going downwind (wind was about 15kn at the time) pulling hard up elevator. The stall is not really unexpected but the lack of recovery is not something I have experienced before.

It allmost looked like a wood-grain after the hot-wire job :) Cool build video sir! Any idea what the after-loop stall is about / how to solve that? I have not encountered that with my wings (yet :P) Cheers & have a good weekend!
@AndrewNewton9 жыл бұрын
+DutchRC Adventures I have not encountered such a radical tip stall spiral before. Possibly needs a thicker airfoil to carry the weight. I tried rounding off the leading edge a bit more and that helped but didn't eliminate the issue. I'll keep investigating.

Great video, I notice that you seem to like hot wire cutting wings, I live in Canada and have access to foam board what is easier to do, and more durable for a newbie. Also is the Flysky FS-i6 still a good choice or would you go for FS-i6x. I might try your trainer design. What I like about your video's is you talk about the pro's and cons of the plane/equipment and you seem to give a good account of the equipment and what its limitations are. Things you can get from the box. Even if I never get flying have enjoyed watching. Cheers
@AndrewNewton7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Foamboard is easier to build with for a beginner but hot wire cut it much more durable. The FS-i6 is the best choice, more adaptable than the i6X

the spiral instability that it exhibited after dropping a tip in the loop looks to me like it has something to do with the pod (and thus the thrust line/vertical CG) hanging so low. Some sort of pendulum effect gaining momentum as it oscillates? Maybe i'm totlaly off the mark though haha. What's the wing loading? Also, I can't tell if you're aussie or nz, but do you know anywhere to get good EPS foam in nz? bunnings don't seem to sell the orange stuff anymore, at least where i live :(
@chrispychickin5 жыл бұрын
Also, before you abandon the specific foil, maybe try adding some little electrical tape strip turbulators at the LE between 15-25% or so for the outer ~60-80mm. I use 3mm x 80mm double stacked tape, and do 2-4 of them per tip (spaced 3-4mm apart) depending on how the airfoil responds to it. Too far forward = extra drag, too far back and the turbulator isn't dealing with attached flow, and does sweet F-A I love your tidy building technique btw. I've had heaps of fails with hot wiring, but I'm keen to try and emulate this method closely in future. Thanks for the great vid!

Andrew what sand paper do you use? I made some hot wire cuts but I couldn't manage packing tape to stick to the cut (dust and small imperfections are just not sooth enough).
@AndrewNewton9 жыл бұрын
+SladkaPritomnost My sandpaper is Norton brand 120 grit. It is white to start off then wears down to dark grey after use as the anti clogging filler is worn off. I do make sure to brush and wipe off dust as much as possible.
