REDUCE emissions deeply and rapidly
REMOVE excess greenhouse gases from the atmosphere
REPAIR broken climate systems by reflecting sunlight in critical areas and refreezing the poles
Anton Keskinen from Operaatio Arktis in discussion with sir David King on Marine Biomass Regeneration, a Cambridge project to research the possibilities of bringing the whale populations back.
Whales have a hugely important role in the nutrition cycle of the oceans. Nutrients play a vital role in growing phytoplankton, which in turn removes carbon from the atmosphere in exchange for oxygen. As whale populations are down at worst 99% (blue whales) since industrial whaling begun, David's team in CCRC studies a way to bring them back - while removing billions of tonnes of CO2 from the atmosohere.

What we’ve done to the oceans (and the fishing grounds in particular) is that we’ve taken out nutrients at a much faster rate than the replenishment rate. So it is not surpising the ecological systems have collapsed. Marine fertilisation may be a necessary way to restore the balance faster, but we should be careful.

“…countries that are heavily dependent on fossil fuels for their economic growth…” (3:15) The infinite growth model is just one aspect of the Ideological Insanity that is plutocratic capitalism. If we don’t fix that, there is no future - as the delicately balanced biosphere is being wrecked on many more fronts than just the Carbon/Methane bomb.

repair ocean and land habitats to allow plants to make best use of increased co2 - use all our resources carefully and responsibly - live with lower consumption - but FFS dont try 're-freezing' poles! :/

Would it not be simpler to dump dead humans into the oceans so that apex predators can begin the reycling and release of nutrients that would otherwise be landlocked in a grave? This would relieve pressure on secondary predators and thus allow them to proliferate. The energy needed to source and monitor nutrient distribution could be used instead for sea burials no matter how simple or complex a farewell service is desired.

I think Elon Musk David mentioned is the Man to develop these Artificial Whales to swim around the sea making the Artificial-Whale feces David mentions at 11:50. Strategically, the entire problem for Life on Earth is that there's waaay too little Whale shit and waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much human shit. In a nut shell.

What happened to the poles during the Roman and medieval warms periods when it was much warmer? The Romans green grapes in England as far North as Carlisle. In the medieval warm period the Danes settled in a new land they called Greenland and farmed it successfully for several hundred years until it became too cold. All of this when CO2 was much lower. The USA state high temperature records are still mostly back in the 1930’s or earlier. The climate gate emails clearly show that current published temperature data is manipulated. They wanted to ‘hide the decline’ and get rid of the medieval warm period. Check the IPCC reports before 2000 which show the medieval warm period being much warmer than current data, but after 2000 the graphs were changed. The last 150 years has been the best period of human history where mankind has flourished, crop yields are the highest ever, life expectancy has doubled, all during a time when CO2 has increased and has been possible because man has been able to develop machines using oil and gas. Take those away or reduce them and mankind will drift back into poverty and famine.

The medieval warm period was a regional event believed to be connected to anomalous sea temperatures. It bears little resemblance to what is occurring now which is fully global in extent and rapidly exceeding the beloved medieval warm period that the denial crowd cling to. Using fossil fuel to the extent we do is now proving to be a huge mistake which we are now having to pay for.

that's what Joseph Fourier published two hundred years ago. Fourier published how "dark heat" (infrared radiation) would increase on Earth due to "the effects of human industry" - so it's been two hundred years of alarmist peer-reviewed science by one of the top scientists.

@@SolvingTornadoes Dimwitted indeed - you or Fourier? "Fourier transform methods allow the analysis of complex waveforms in terms of their sinusoidal components [32]. Fourier analysis transforms a waveform into its spectral components and has been utilized in mass spectrometry, infrared spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance. Fourier Transform is a mathematical model which helps to transform the signals between two different domains, such as transforming signal from frequency domain to time domain or vice versa. Fourier transform has many applications in Engineering and Physics, such as signal processing, RADAR, and so on. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is a widely used algorithm in various fields, including signal processing, image processing, communication, data analysis, and scientific computing. The method of Fourier-transform spectroscopy can also be used for absorption spectroscopy. The primary example is "FTIR Spectroscopy", a common technique in chemistry. In general, the goal of absorption spectroscopy is to measure how well a sample absorbs or transmits light at each different wavelength." And so how is that related to abrupt global warming? see physics professor Raymond Pierrehumbert, 2011, "Infrared Radiation and Planetary Temperature" article freely readable in "Physics Today": The key role of the energy balance between short-wave solar absorption and long-wave IR emission was first recognized in 1827 by Joseph Fourier,1,2 about a quarter century after IR radiation was discovered by William Herschel. As Fourier also recognized, the rate at which electromagnetic radiation escapes to space is strongly affected by the interven- ing atmosphere. With those insights, Fourier set in motion a program in planetary climate that would take more than a century to bring to fruition." "As Fourier already understood, when it comes to relating temperature to the principles of energy balance, it matters little whether the heat-loss mechanism is purely radiative, as in the case of a planet, or a mix of radiation and turbulent convection, as in the case of a house-or a greenhouse. Carbon dioxide is just planetary insulation." "The foundations of radiative transfer were laid by some of the greatest physicists of the 19th and 20th centuries- Fourier, Tyndall, Arrhenius, Kirchhoff, Ludwig Boltzmann, Max Planck, Albert Einstein, Schwarzschild, Arthur Edding- ton, Milne, and Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar-plus many more whose names are not well known, even among physi- cists, but probably deserve to be."
